Russia has already imported around two dozen North Korean missiles . This indicates that the enemy lacks domestic production capabilities. Gennady Khazan, president of the Ukrainian Aviation Association of Pilots and Aircraft Owners and a Ukrainian aviator, told Unian.
"These missiles have been delivered to Rostov; they're already there today. Of course, there are risks. They vary: some have a range of 400 km, others have a longer range, but they differ in the warhead's power. We must understand that there could be modifications with a more powerful warhead," he said.
According to him, ballistics is any physical body moving along a ballistic trajectory.
"Therefore, there are ballistic missiles and cruise missiles, and they are different things. These are the means by which a missile is delivered to its target along a ballistic trajectory. There are many different types of them. They fly at different distances. Unfortunately, those missiles reach Kyiv, although they would be 400 km away, that is, at shorter distances," Khazan noted.
From what is known, the expert continued, there are few of these missiles in Russia; they are delivered, which once again proves that the Russians lack domestic production.
"And they want to maintain the intensity of the shelling at a high level, taking advantage of the window of opportunity given the very limited number of anti-missile systems currently available in Ukraine. I'll say cautiously – a couple dozen. Currently, there are a couple dozen in launch positions. But what does a couple dozen mean? It means there could be serious shelling, and we must prepare for it," the expert emphasized.
He noted that Russia is currently shelling Kharkiv, Dnepr, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv, and these strikes are terrorist in nature, intended to have the greatest possible impact on the psychological state of Ukrainians and to defeat or destroy some object.
The expert urged Ukrainians not to ignore air raid sirens, to be extremely cautious, and, if possible, to avoid large crowds.
"The main thing that will help us survive this is to be extremely careful about our lives and the lives of our loved ones, to respond to air raid sirens, to have specially prepared first aid kits with us, so that people have them with them, and most importantly, to know how to use them," Khazan concluded.
It's worth noting that information has been circulating in Ukrainian public groups and social media about the delivery of North Korean KN-23 ballistic missiles to the Voronezh region. Therefore, they could soon be used to strike Ukraine, specifically the capital.
In the standard KN-23, the warhead weight is estimated to be between 500 and 1000 kg, while in the new version, under the original name Hwasongpho-11-Da-4, it is 4500 kg.
The KN-23 missiles specifically target cities. These missiles are very powerful but inaccurate, posing a significant threat to civilians.
As reported, North Korean KN-23 and KN-24 missiles, which Russia uses to attack Ukraine, were created using 50-year-old methods .
Russia launched KN-23 and KN-24 missiles at Ukraine in early 2024. While these missiles are similar to their Russian counterparts, they use less energy-efficient fuel and engines that are 50% larger and have the same range.
North Korea first unveiled its KN-23 missile during a military parade in 2018. It was partially compared to the Russian Iskander-M short-range ballistic missile. A year later, the KN-24 missile was unveiled, which bears some similarities to the American-made ATACMS tactical ballistic missile.
