Russian ruler Vladimir Putin is building a completely loyal security force around himself, preparing for the worst-case scenario – hiding in a bunker. According to an expert, Putin's inner circle is not prepared to take responsibility for the country's fate, but is merely seeking a guarantor of the status quo. He also predicts that strikes deep into Russia will become increasingly painful, and that ballistic and cruise missiles will soon join drones.
Alexander Sotnik, editor-in-chief of the Sotnik-TV channel and journalist, shared his assessment of the situation around the Kremlin in an interview with Glavred . Amid rumors of factions vying for power around Putin, the journalist denies the possibility of open conflict in the Kremlin, saying that the inner circle is more likely to avoid direct responsibility for the country's fate than to plot a rebellion.
"There's no schism. There's a reluctance to take on this 'Monomakh's Cap,' all this 'beauty.' There's fear, there's misunderstanding," Sotnik noted.
The publicist adds that Putin's inner circle is already assessing the prospects for further escalation and is looking for a backup plan for the future.
"Right now, the elites are looking around. They understand that things will only get worse. Therefore, they're starting to look around for someone who can guarantee them the status quo, someone who can reach an agreement with everyone and who will actually adhere to that status quo, not cheat or try to steal the show. So far, they haven't found such a figure," says Sotnik. Sotnik predicts a further escalation of attacks deep into Russian territory and a change in their nature.
"Strikes deep into Russia will only escalate, and they will become increasingly painful. Drones will soon be joined by ballistic and cruise missiles. Then, all of these will fly together in incredible numbers," the publicist predicts.
According to Sotnik, Putin is already preparing for the worst-case scenario for himself.
"Putin is acting proactively, understanding that one day he'll have to hide deep in a bunker. And then he'll need absolutely loyal, trusted security at his side. This is the only way he can ensure his own safety," Sotnik notes.
Talk of strengthening Putin's personal security comes amid reports of rising internal tensions in Russia and the elite's search for alternative guarantors of stability.
The publicist notes that it is precisely the uncertainty of those around him about the future, and not the struggle for power, that is pushing the Kremlin to form a narrow circle of trusted people around the ruler.
