Today is a very different kind of day for the Snow Dogs Vlogs family. We got a special invitation to a media event at the Jayco warehouse and distribution center in Elkhart, Indiana to celebrate 25 years of their JFlight trailers. Originally, we planned to take the camping rig and all three of our Siberian Huskies, but between the crazy 47-degree weather and the fact that we haven't even loaded up the camper yet, plans changed! Instead of the whole pack going, Jamie is staying home with Memphis and Kira, while Eleanor and I are hitting the road for a solo adventure.
It was a tough decision because I really wanted to bring Kira, but she and Memphis are so close that I didn't want to stress Memphis out by separating them. Plus, Eleanor gets very anxious when I am not around, whereas Kira is perfectly fine hanging out with Dad. So, it is just Eleanor and me on a five-hour road trip to Indiana! Before leaving, we checked in on our backyard house finch nest to see how the baby birds are doing. They still have their white tufted feathers, so hopefully, they stay put until I get back. Back home, Jamie is holding down the fort, dealing with a protesting Memphis and inflating an air mattress in the living room so he can sleep right next to her and keep her calm.
Once Eleanor and I crossed the border into Indiana, we checked into a wonderful, pet-friendly Avid Hotel. After a quick rubber-floor check, some pita bread and hummus, and watching some hockey, Eleanor and I headed out for a late-night potty walk. The hotel area is so well-lit, which makes traveling alone with one dog feel much safer. Eleanor was a little unsure about a random mailbox and some hallway noises, but she did absolutely amazing for her first time staying in a hotel without her sisters.
