Massive changes are coming to the New York Yankees as this
core is over right now with the way everything has trended
throughout the last two playoffs that also affects Aaron Boone
and his future or lack thereof in New York after not only did
he fail to win a World Series, but he's only made one throughout
his tenure a tenure that honestly nobody will be surprised
by if it ends after tomorrow guys, there's a ton to go over
on the New York Yankees right now.
We're going to jump right into things as always make sure
to go ahead and subscribe to Yankees Digest as well.
We got videos coming out every single day breaking down
all the latest New York Yankees news reports updates and
everything else on the Kings of New York, but guys, here's
the thing as we knew this was going to be an uphill battle
in the playoffs Aaron Judge is not around and the Yankees
typically need Aaron Judge to win since Judge came to the
team their record without him is 249 and 219 obviously
it doesn't look that bad, but when you compare it to what
the Yankees are with Aaron Judge things do look a whole lot
different especially when considering the fact that the Yankees
this season had a 52 and 43 record without Aaron Judge and
batted with a 229 without him this season, but this doesn't
all tell the full story on all the issues the Yankees have
New York Yankees are down 2-0 to the Tampa Bay Rays.
And yes, they absolutely can win this series and flip everything
on its head.
But right now the Yankees look outmatched their offense
looks dead and frankly there isn't really much to believe
in offensively outside of Ben Rice who is outstanding Rice
is played like he cares more than anyone else and everyone
else combined and frankly, that's the way it feels at points
to when we look at the team Aaron Boone is sitting there
staring trying to figure stuff out that he's not been able
to figure out for a decade plus now Giancarlo Stanton's
been injured and who knows if we ever see him taking out
bat with the Yankees again and Aaron Judge is not able to
play because he got injured in the playoffs and this has
been the story of the whole season is Aaron Judge continually
getting hurt and not being healthy, but still the Yankees
expectations were higher.
They have the best pitching in the league and also the offense
should have been good enough to be able to perform but they're
not and that's for one simple reason.
Here's the thing.
We see the Yankees have struggled hitting wise for sure without
Aaron Judge batting with a 229 without Judge there now, that's
obviously horrible.
But here's where things get even worse.
We look at who had the worst batting average in the league
last year.
It was the Cincinnati Reds who had a 229 batting average the
same as the Yankees without Aaron Judge without Judge the Yankees
hitting is abominable.
It's awful.
It's just an abomination and I mean we look at the Yankees
even overall this season.
They the fifth worst batting average and here's the issue.
They never have a good batting average.
They don't they don't the batting average is always bad.
I don't know.
I this has been a problem for years.
It's been a problem for years and nothing has changed.
It's been like well, we got a bunch of power hitters and let's
see is they don't all go hot in the playoffs and then we lose
because only one guy's hitting like what's happening this year.
Now we look at these other teams here.
The Seattle Mariners Baltimore Orioles the Los Angeles Angels
and the Cincinnati Reds or any of those teams good.
No, they're not in the friggin playoffs.
That's the freaking issue here man.
The Yankees are using a strategy that does not work systematically,
but they get bailed out by the power hitting they do have and
really more than that.
They get bailed out by having the best pitching in the league
in the AL Cy Young and Cam Schlittler.
They have Max free.
They have Garrett Cole.
They have Carlos Redon.
It doesn't matter at points though.
Not when you're not able to give them a single run of support,
which has been the Yankees issue.
Also when you're just getting errors everywhere and hoping
you'll add it back with hitting that hasn't been good this
year. It's just really really hard to trust this team to me.
They should just bite the bullet and go into small ball.
I am curious.
Do you guys agree?
Should they adapt to playing small ball?
Yes, add contact hitters and defenders in free agency.
You have enough power between Rice and Aaron Judge and Luis
Garcia that you know what?
Let's add some guys who can do other stuff or know we've been
great for years and went to the World Series with the current
roster setup.
I'm asking.
I'm curious what you guys think and believe me.
I'm going to put a poll out there as well on the channel as
well to see but the Yankees without judge even over this time
have had a below average OPS.
The batting average hasn't been good.
This stuff has never been good without Aaron Judge there.
It's just the truth of the matter right now.
And even if you are the Yankees, you have the best ERA in
baseball.
Oh, I mean second best in the playoffs and the best over the
regular season.
Yeah, it's helpful.
It's really helpful.
But at the end of the day, it's not working.
This was not good enough teams like the Red Sox who didn't have
offense.
They lost to the Yankees the Brewers.
They have enough offense where they're able to handle it that
Braves they had offense.
I mean the Dodgers they of course have offense the Yankees
don't this ERA is not going to carry them if you can't score
more than three runs a game.
I don't get it.
There's been no change.
Brian Hoke did mention the lesson that rallied from an 0-2
hole in the best-of-five series was in the 2017 ALDS when the
Yankees advanced after dropping their first two games at Cleveland.
Now, can the Yankees do it again?
It's certainly possible.
This was the first year of Aaron Judge's career and now here
we are all these years later.
Judge is not here because he's injured and it's just an absolute
disaster.
Meanwhile, Stat News did mention that the Yankees haven't won
a road post season game in 716 days.
So even if they do win the next two, they still have to, you
know, break this horrible streak.
And Ben Rice is the only one who cares enough to do anything.
He had two home runs, both were solo shots because no one else
wanted to get on base, took a walk as well.
He's the first player with two multi-home run games in a single
post season for the Yankees.
The man is absolutely great.
John Alba mentioned that the AL was historically bad this year.
The Dodgers may not go the distance.
Aaron Judge is entering his mid-30s.
Garrett Cole is on the home stretch and you have a historically
good pitching staff.
This one is going to sting them for a while.
I mean, I'm not disagreeing.
It's just, we all know the problem.
It was the same thing last year.
They got smoked by a team who played small ball.
It works.
It's working for the Rays.
It worked for the Jays last year.
The Yankees are like, nah, we'll just hopefully hit four home
runs, which will carry us through the game.
It's a strategy that's been failing and Cashman won't move
away from it.
He won't move away from Aaron Boone who as much as I have been
very critical of and he still deserves criticism.
He probably has managed one of the best years of his career
this year.
If we're being honest, he's not done a poor job this year.
It's been the best year he's ever managed and even still
there's adjustments he could make that he's not making and
clearly he's not working and the Yankees probably should fire
him and move on, but he's done a good job this year.
And honestly, it's rare to like for me to say that because
I feel like I've been a big Aaron Boone hater for a while
now. This was the case before I was on this channel and here
I am now.
But here's the thing.
They can still come back.
Now, that's not why Yankees did mention overall with Aaron
Boone on Giancarlo's sentencing.
I watched the at-bat and was like, oh, I like where he's at.
He'll continue to be a threat for us for the rest of the
series.
Will he?
Because he's not on the field committing five errors.
What's he supposed to do?
What's Rice supposed to do as the DH?
Watch his team screw up.
It's just it's just clear what the problem is and nothing
changes. Now.
We do have a new segment.
We are soon.
We are hosting a comment every day on this channel and voice
of a thousand colors or a hundred colors.
Excuse me.
Did say the new lineup is humming and the added small ball
more contact and speed focus lineup is key against the rays
in particular scent is always a beast in October and can add
some extra power without risking judges for future career in
the process.
Also, no offense to judge.
He's been amazing, but his play in October historically
just doesn't justify risking his health.
I would imagine if the offense begins to stall judge could
be activated for the ALCS or World Series at least limiting
the possibility of the possible long-term damage to his camp
as much as possible, which probably is why Stanton wasn't
used against Boston as well.
Keeping judgment and healthy as possible until they are
needed the most.
I see that as smart and a good overall strategy for the
postseason and for future ones.
Totally understandable.
Totally agree.
The beginning of that's what matters.
This small ball.
The small ball aspect that the Yankees had and look they
got red hot against Boston.
It is what it is, but they actually had base running for
the first time.
They still have contact hitting and I don't know what the
hell's going on with the fielding.
But if the Yankees do end up losing to the Rays, if they
don't come back from 2-0, we know what they have to fix.
They have to get fielding.
They have to get base running.
They have to get contact.
They have to get everything that's not power.
Yeah, the power is great.
Aaron Judge, Ben Rice, Luis Garcia.
They're not going in.
They'll be here.
They'll have power.
Get a guy who's going to get on base.
I mean, Cody Pellinger does it.
Get another one.
Get a freaking leadoff hitter.
Please.
I know Rice can do it and if it's going to stay Rice, I'm
okay with that.
But they got to get guys who can get on base because it's
just absurd to watch and they don't they don't get on base
and then they lose because they can't score runs and when
a home run does happen, it's a solo shot.
Twice over if you're Ben Rice.
