Huge changes are coming to the New York Yankees
as it is over for a huge group of players and
right now the Yankees bullpen was one
of the bright spots of last season. Well the pitching
in general was but honestly
when it comes down to it we are seeing some major changes in regards
to who is going to be in that bullpen as the Yankees
do face a long list of players who are
now available in free agency who some of them they plan on retaining
but it's going to definitely
involved some serious and I mean very very serious
contract negotiations while other teams will
likely try to steal from the Yankees bullpen
as well we're going to break all that down guys just
make sure to go ahead and subscribe to the channel before we
do any of that because guys 66% of you
guys watching are not yet subscribed we got videos like
this coming out every single day and we got
a ton of great New York Yankees news for you
but jumping into the video guys there has been a whole
lot to look at in this offseason
so far a few days in really a weekend and guys right now there's
been a lot of questions surrounding
who's going to stick around at the bullpen obviously the
Yankees had some great players in their pen
this past season guys like David Bednar and Paul
Blackburn and Brent Hedrick were all absolutely excellent pieces
for this team but the question
is who stays and who goes and the biggest question really
is the one that surrounds none other than
their closer David Bednar who leads the Yankees bullpen
in all decisions as he's the most expensive
guy in that pen right now he just had
a very strong season amidst a bad start to the year
Bednar was awesome for the Yankees
and there really is a lot of questions surrounding what
happens next with a big chunk of these guys
and Bednar you know the Yankees want to keep him
around but they also they do have some guys
who are kind of being groomed to be the next real
closers of the team and guys before we get
into that i do just want to say october baseball is

in the description now that's Otis Edge but guys
diving back into the video i mean Bednar is someone specifically
who we look at and there's
a lot of questions surrounding I mean for agency
in general you got to look at the expiring deals
David Bednar, Paul Blackburn, Tim Hill,
Ryan Yarbrough and I mean Bednar and Blackburn were
two of the three best pitchers in this pen now Hill
and Yarbrough there's definitely some thoughts
about as well but we look at Bednar in the strong season
that he did have he I mean had 35 saves
which is in the top one percent had 76 strikeouts
which was absolutely excellent the whip was barely
above one a 2.47 ERA and he did really really well
in his 64 games that he appeared in pitching 69.1
innings he was good David Bednar really really
was very very effective this year literally only
gave up four home runs the man was great
and Bednar now looking at him it makes sense why
the Yankees would want to keep him have him continue
to be the closer and they would probably
give him a multi-year deal
but not like some super long-term deal I would expect somewhere
around three four years max probably he would get
from the Yankees to continue to be their closer
for the coming years before guys like Carlos Lagrange get ready
or maybe the Yankees do move
towards Brian Hedrick and decide they don't want to pay Bednar
but with the way he pitched and with
the way the Yankees value their bullpen you have
to imagine that Brian Cashman will continue to
really go out there and use it
because we look at the arsenal the man is a main fastball pitcher but
has a splitter and a curveball that he throws even amounts
as well to mix things up and again
he had so much success with all of these pitches
that you have to imagine that they want to retain
their closer i mean his decision it assesses
the cost of retaining him for sure and weighs in
external replacement and preserve late inning reliability
but we know the yankees do want to
keep him and the qualifying offer is the big question
because it's a tough decision for the
yankees to watch a new contract has not been agreed
on free agency leaves the ninth inning
open unless they do turn towards Hedrick
and have Lagrange come in and have him kind of look like
he's their future closer but here's the thing he totally can return
and i kind of think he will to
be honest he's having success here the Yankees
are good why would he not want to pitch here I mean
it doesn't mean his departure is happening
and again the Yankees should try to retain him and
I think they will now with Paul Blackburn we
also have another side of this to look at as he faces
free agency as well coming off
of a breakout season Blackburn was absolutely excellent this
year I mean there's no doubt about it he appeared
in 62 games actually started two games as well
bullpen games had a 1.69 ERA 69 strikeouts did
really really really well for himself here i mean
overall this man's ERA was fifth in the MLB this last year
and though he's not a strikeout pitcher
he's getting the job done 100 the WHIP was good
at a 1.09 the man just knew how to be a valuable
player and in October Blackburn showed up i mean he didn't allow
a single run at all in the 4.1
innings he pitched with a 1.46 he showed he can show up
in the big moments and i do think
the Yankees will totally bring back Paul Blackburn
because clearly they've unlocked something here
now he also gives multi-inning relief pitching
which is obviously great that you want to see
and you can also just have him be a bridge pitcher between a starter
and a closer and use Blackburn
the entire time in between for a good three innings
if you need him to he's just that there
he's just super talented and i do think
the Yankees will try to retain him however we also
to look at Tim Hill and Ryan Yarbrough facing free agency
because this one is a little bit
different now Hill and Yarbrough did not have
the best seasons either of them I do think there's a
case to bring both of them back Hill's year
was not very good he started out scorching hot but
fell off a proverbial cliff
the Yankees probably overused them early on in the year which is why
I think that happened the Yankees
also have a lot of lefty pitching now between Hedrick as well
having him there they bring back Yarbrough they
will have enough lefty pitching that they could
use him a little more situationally
and he probably would be able to really become a valuable player
meanwhile with Yarbrough there definitely
is the thought process that I my thought process is they
should bring him back I know 3.69 is not great for the bullpen
but he's a serviceable pitcher and I
like the fact that he's a swing man you can't always have him start
or just pitch five innings
if you need him to he's really just a talented guy
and again I like having a good amount of lefties
in the pen as well I like it to be fairly even
so it doesn't happen you could obviously favor
righties a little bit more they're more common
but at the same time I do really think that Yarbrough
is the type of guy you should try to keep around good
for the team teammates like him he's just
he just works and I mean overall if you have
to bring back one of them you probably bring back
Yarbrough at this point you can handle a little bit more
and frankly again Hill's fall off at the
end of the year did definitely start to cause some concern
but it really does become one of
the situations where I do feel like they have
to decide on who they want to bring back overall I
don't think all four of these guys return I will say I'm pretty sure
that both Paul Blackburn and
David Bednar will be back with the team obviously pitching matters
and that does impact our comment
of the day today as we did see from Robert
the Grave 36 36 that as he said the players are fine
my concern is the manager in the front office how
do you pull out a pitcher who's hot and doing good
for a cold relief pitcher with a smile on your face
and that's also part of the problem the
Yankees have not set their relief pitchers up
to success in the previous couple seasons
We even saw that in the World Series in 2024 when Aaron Boone did that.
And frankly, just Aaron Boone's smile in there was just
an atrocious look for the game they would get eliminated in.
I am not sure Aaron Boone is going to be back with the team,
but I do have a video breaking down both sides
of that that is coming out as well.
So make sure to stay tuned for that.
