Welcome to your Wednesday afternoon.
I'm meteorologist Keith Marler. Thank you for
clicking on Fox Local on this rainy day.
If that sounds familiar, it's because, well,
we've been doing this. You know that. I know that.
We all know that. It's still raining.
Different lows. Well, same low as yesterday.
Different low from Monday, and we got that going for us.
Monday had the quickie low.
Tuesday had the low approaching.
Today has the low leaving.
So that's something, again.
But this is our three-day rain total.
I wanted to at least combine everything into one,
since it's one kind of big system, all related together.
Officially, we have now reached, as of 11 a.m. this morning,
I have updated some totals, going into the midday at least,
1.62 inches of rain.
I almost said snow.
Right season, wrong precipitation type.
1.62 inches of rain, that's important.
Why? It's arbitrary.
Because a typical November gets 1.61 inches of rain or rain equivalent,
meaning snow that melts down to liquid.
So the end result is we now have had officially
in the first three days, four days of November,
more than a typical November month's worth of rain.
We could quit and still be ahead of the game, above average,
for an entire month's worth of precipitation.
We are not going to, though.
We're going to pick up additional amounts,
probably another quarter or a half inch plus,
through the day today and overnight tonight as it fizzles out tonight.
But northern Minnesota, oh, you keep going.
Look at all that band, those brighter yellows and oranges,
especially the twos, threes, or mores.
There are some isolated fours near Duluth
and across parts of the range in particular near Hibbing.
And across parts of the Iron Range and up near Ely,
some hidden fours up there,
and a band of two-plussers from the Southwest Metro down the 169
corridor on either side of the Minnesota River Valley in particular.
You can find this map and a metro-centric map
if you click around Fox Local.
We've posted both of those.
You'll have that 11 a.m. update from me posted there,
and then you'll get a fresh update again later on this evening from me.
And then we'll, of course,
give you a final update today on Thursday, if you want all of them.
So for today, all of this rain energy that rotated
into the area yesterday and last night is now having to rotate through
the area again on the backside of the area of low pressure.
Backside moisture. That's fun.
We have to get rid of that slowly but surely.
The showers fizzle to drizzle overnight tonight into tomorrow morning
and we're left with a little dampness tomorrow morning.
But the good news is we dry out into the afternoon
as the dew points fall off. Northwestern flow tries to work
on that and we'll see some clearing in northern Minnesota.
Can't guarantee you we'll get there here in the metro.
We race the sun and the sunset itself as the sun goes down.
Just a tick before 5 p.m.
So for today, another rainy day.
More often on showers with steady temperatures in the low to mid 50s.
Down to the 40s tonight as the drips taper off.
Again, the showers fizzle to drizzle as we keep it in the 40s.
And finally drying out through the day tomorrow,
even though we wake up to some dampness.
We'll do our best to get back to some regular cloud cover
that tries to actually become mostly cloudy as the day wears on.
We'll keep it in the mid to upper 40s,
then go for some mid-ish 40s on Friday.
That 47 in sunshine, perfectly average.
For this time of year on Friday, notice we do dabble back
in the 30s as we've gotten rid of our system over the weekend.
That's gotten rid of the cloud cover as well,
so that means a clear start Saturday morning.
We could flirt with a freeze officially in the metro.
34 is flirting.
I know it's not frozen, but most of our
ring of burbs will certainly be frozen.
Most of the state will be, too.
As we go on into our Saturday morning,
it's our near opener, and it will be chilly.
It will be average, but it will be chilly,
as by the weekend, an average morning low would be frozen.
But temperatures warm on up, and it's all about the 50s.
Mild. That upper 58 degree temperature there on Monday.
That means parts of the state might tease a 60 by early next week.
And we stay mild in through Tuesday with sunshine as well.
Have a great Wednesday afternoon. Stay dry.
