We come on air as polls close in both Maryland
and the district, but take a look at this.
Long voting lines at one Prince George's
County polling place could slow the counting
of ballots tonight.
This is video from the Laurel Beltsville Senior Center.
This has been the case in the scene for a few hours now.
A reminder, those still currently
in line will be allowed to cast their ballot.
Let's get out live to our Shamari Stone.
He is live there in Laurel,
where the line continues even after polls have closed in
Maryland, Shamari.
That's right. Well, I am here at the Laurel Beltsville Senior Center,
and some of these folks have been in line for nearly two hours,
just showing you the determination for them in order to vote, because
this is just such a crucial election, the midterm 2026 election.
You can see these folks right here, and they're going to go right
into that door over there, and that is where they are voting.
The polls literally just closed right now, but here's the deal.
If you're in line, you will be able to vote.
Let me show you how long this line was.
It extends all the way.
All the way over.
You see that tree right there with the light?
On the other side, I'd say around, what, 30 yards?
That is where the line was starting,
and folks have just been lining up here.
You can see them right now, the long lines to determine voters
and important decisions here
at the Laurel-Beltsville Senior Activity Center.
Voters are making their voices heard in this midterm election.
From the rising cost of living and health care to immigration
and the direction of the country, some voters are telling me
that they are weighing these issues, and they say,
that they matter most as they cast their ballots.
Now, if you come back over here,
I'm gonna show you this mom and daughter.
This is the first time this young lady has voted.
Her name is Layla, is that correct?
And this is Melissa, her mother.
First of all, being a first time voter,
how are you feeling right now?
I'm excited to finally just be able to vote
and have a say.
All right, and you are here with your mother.
Mom, what is one of the issues that brought you out to vote tonight?
It's just very important to come out and vote
and to voice your opinion and just, yeah.
I understand. Yeah, no problem.
So tell me about your experience being in line.
Um, the line, we were here for about an hour and 45 minutes and,
um, it went by kind of
fast because you just know it's important to vote.
Um, and yeah, it's a small sacrifice to make.
Well, I want to thank you for joining us as affordability real quick.
Is that one of the issues that you have
a concern about the rising gas prices?
Grocery store sales?
Yes, all of those are concerns.
All right, I want to thank you for joining us.
Well, we will have another update for you.
As you can see, you have a mother and daughter.
This is the first time that she has voted.
She goes to the University of Maryland,
and she also wants to encourage other people her age
to get out to vote.
In Laurel, I'm Shamari Stone. Back to you.
