Quick recap now of the United States Senate race,
which the Associated Press has already
called at 8 o'clock Eastern time,
one hour and one minute after our polls closed here
in Georgia for Senator, incumbent Senator John Ossoff,
the projected winner of the United
States Senate race here.
He will retain his seat, winning so far this evening,
although all votes haven't been counted
quite yet.
But by a healthy margin for Senator Ossoff so far.
We're going to check in with Ossoff's campaign headquarters right now.
Our Eric Perry is with them tonight.
Eric, the polls have been very favorable for Ossoff.
How are they feeling there at campaign headquarters tonight?
Yeah, Tom.
So AP has called that race in favor of Ossoff.
We just don't know the final numbers.
I want to show you the crowd and the energy that has been here.
They called that race about five to ten minutes ago.
And when they did that,
you can see them raising their flags all in the air there.
The DJ has been changing the music.
And each time, it's songs that are favoring celebration.
And people have been just really kind of cheering.
So we also saw Charlie Bailey,
who is the chair of the Democratic Legislative
Party of Georgia.
He started everything off.
Then afterwards, we saw Mayor Andre Dickens come out
and energize the crowd here as well.
He says that, you know, this is a big night for Georgia.
He says, as he always says, one second.
Okay, they were just bringing someone else out.
Carolyn Hulie, minority leader of the House
of Representatives, is coming out.
At some point, U.S. Senator John Ossoff should
be coming out probably within the next hour or so,
especially since they have called that race.
But again, a laundry list of Democrats
that are on that ballot coming out today
with the energy here at the Hyatt in downtown Atlanta, really electric,
especially after the AP called that race there.
Of course, we'll be sending you and showing you.
Thank you, U.S. Senator John Ossoff, in his now victory speech,
as the race has been called in this one.
But a really big energy here, Tom,
as we are expecting more and more Democrats coming out again.
Charlie Bailey has come out and started it off,
and we also heard from Andre Dickens here in Atlanta, Tom.
Eric, I've got to ask you, this call was made within
the hour of polls closing here in the state of Georgia.
Did the Ossoff folks, in your judgment,
anticipate the call coming this early in the evening?
You know, I asked them, I said, you know,
what can we expect from tonight?
And I don't know if they expected it this early.
Again, they just said we have to wait and see when 7 o'clock came.
We do also know that, you know, the early polls were favoring this.
So the early polls had him at a significant advantage here.
But I'm not sure if they knew it was going to come,
what did you say, an hour after the polls closed here.
But definitely celebration here at the Hyatt.
All right, so John Ossoff retains his seat in the United States Senate,
representing the state of Georgia.
Eric, we know you'll be waiting for Ossoff to step out onto that stage,
and as soon as he does to make his victory comments,
we, of course, will take it live.
