At least 26 people have been killed in Russian airstrikes on Ukraine's
southern Zaporizhia region. Five others were injured in the attack.
President Vladimir Zelensky says Russian forces dropped aerial bombs
on a school being used for
distributing humanitarian aid.
He says after the initial strike, nine more bombs attacked a shelter
where people had gathered.
Zelensky has accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilians and
called for a strong international response.
Audrey McAlpine reports on those strikes from Kiev.
Yet another example of how this year is quickly becoming
the most deadly for civilians since the war began.
An attack in the village of Kam'yanshevatkhe in the Zaporizhia region,
which has killed over two dozen people and has left...
Nearly 30 people missing among the dead, rescue workers and a policeman
who were working at the site when another glide bomb hit.
That is a heavy dumb bomb that is often used
in areas along the front line.
The town itself, just 10 kilometers from Russian forces,
well within what is referred to as the kill zone,
meaning within the range of first-person view drones,
small, cheap drones that are...
Found everywhere along the front line
and increasingly towards the regional capital, Zaporizhia.
I was in this town, Kamushavaha, in 2023 and even at that time
witnessed a lot of these distribution of humanitarian aid going out.
And a lot of the people who remain in these towns
as the war approaches them are the elderly or the immobile.
Our team was in Zaporizhia just recently
and visited a shelter where many people from this area have fled.
We spoke with one man, for example,
who said that just eight people remained in his town.
He himself, his hands were burned as a result
of coming under Russian drone attack.
And it's just yet another example of how the war has progressed
with drone warfare and the type of weaponry that's used
So that one no longer needs...
Boots on the ground to take a city
that weapons like drones arrive long before the infantry.
