The Raiders made four roster moves today,
the day before they take on the Jets, and one of them
could put a player on the field that has never taken an NFL snap.
The first one is one that fans
have been waiting weeks for.
Wide receiver Jack Besch is off the injured reserve. Ian Rapoport
earlier this morning said that he is expected
to play Sunday against the Jets, and he has
He has recovered from his fractured forearm.
He broke it originally in a 35-27 win over the Saints in Week 3,
and he has not played since then.
Head coach Clint Kubiak said that the team had until today
to decide whether or not he was going to be able to come back,
and the decision has been made.
He has 48 receiving yards this season,
so this is not a star returning necessarily,
but he's a healthy body for a team that...
desperately needs one back in the lineup.
To see exactly where he fits into the equation,
Trey Tucker leads the Raiders with 474 receiving yards,
Brock Bowers has 455,
and running back Ashton Gentry has 312,
catching the ball out of the backfield.
Besh's 48 yards is less than Jalen Naylor's 75,
and less than half of Cody White's 112,
so he is coming back to fight for snaps, not into a ready-made role.
He's also a great cheap option for this team on a three-year deal
that carries a cap hit of around $1.7 million,
$2.1 million next year, and $2.4 million in 2028.
But an offense that has leaned this hard on Tucker and Bowers could use
a third option, and that is what a healthy Besh gives Clint Kubiak.
What I like about this move, too, is that they did not rush it.
He is ready to go.
He broke his forearm on September 27th.
They opened his return window on October 26th,
and they used the whole window before making the final call.
And they needed one because the Raiders started 3-0
and are now 3-4 with four straight losses.
Now, that is the good news heading into tomorrow's game.
Before we get into the bad news and some
of the other roster moves that they've made,

But let's get back into some of the updates.
Defensive end Patrick Johnson is going on the injured reserve.
He did not practice all week with a stinger,
and he was already ruled out.
versus the Jets Johnson has five tackles
so far this season on a one-year 1.1 million dollar deal
so this is a depth loss not necessarily anything other than
that but a depleted defensive line is
the last thing that this team and this defense specifically needs
because the Raiders have about
25 touchdowns allowed in seven games second most
in the league behind only
the Arizona Cardinals. The pass rush is a little spread as well.
Their two leading players lead
the Raiders with three sacks each
and Max Crosby only has two so far this season. Linebackers
Quay Walker and N'Kobe Dean add two and 1.5
so the Raiders are getting pressure from
everywhere which also means there is no cushion
when the linemen go down.
To fill the spots, the Raiders elevated two players
from the practice squad today.
Defensive tackle Tim Keenan and defensive end Kian Sloan.
So when a starter goes down,
the Raiders have to break the glass and call the practice squad.
And Keenan is a rookie, 6'2 and 320 pounds,
who has been there since September 7th.
He has two tackles so far this season,
so do not expect him to be a huge difference
maker in this game,
but a 320-pound tackle can change where the run goes.
Sloan, however, is one to watch heading into tomorrow.
Sam Warren says and pointed out that this is his third
and final elevation, so the Raiders
actually have to sign him to the 53-man roster
for him to be active after this.
With Johnson out, Warren says there's
a good chance Sloan makes his NFL debut after being
inactive for his last two elevations
If that does end up happening,
that is actually a very interesting story because he's a five-year
college player out of NC State
who spent his whole pro career waiting exactly for this moment.
Put it all together and the Raiders have changed
their line completely again with a
rookie tackle and a player waiting on his debut,
stepping in for a defensive end on
injured reserve. So they've shaken things up
a little bit through some of these moves at
Really no cost, no trade,
no big contract for transitions on the day before they play the Jets.
And every single one of them is about getting through
the Jets game with the players that they have specifically.
And it's not necessarily panic,
but this is a team that knows if they lose tomorrow,
the narrative is going to change very quickly next week.
And they can't really afford.
Another loss.
So the next one will be really hard to explain
if they end up losing this on Sunday.
So that is the roster heading into tomorrow's game.
Now, what does it mean?
on Sunday. The Raiders are at the Jets at MetLife Stadium
on Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern on Fox. The
Jets are two and five and third in the AFC East.
So this is a team that the Raiders should absolutely
beat if they want to stop the bleeding.
The Raiders are only two and a half games out of the
AFC West lead with Kansas City at five
and one and Denver at five and two. So a win
is a little bit of help to put you back on the right track.
A lot of people are actually disagreeing on how this game goes.
You can see here that Covers projects a 23-20 Raiders win,
while Stats Insider Simulations have the Jets winning 22-20.
There's also some thought
that the Jets could keep giving yards away via penalties,
which is exactly the kind of gift that a defense like
this that the Raiders have right now.
could really use. And one thing that a lot
of people are talking about today is the last time
that Jack Bissell was on the field, the Raiders were 3-0,
and now they are 3-4. And Sunday,
if they were to win against the Jets,
that would push them to 4-0 with Jack Bissell. And a win here
would be absolutely crucial for this team, right?
It ends a four-game losing streak, gets them back
to 500, and it makes the Crosby conversation a little bit quieter.
So here's three things to watch on Sunday.
How many targets does Jack Besh get
in his first game back after five weeks away?
If Sloan gets into the game
and what that line actually looks like without Johnson.
And number three, Max Crosby
and trade rumors around him because this week.
His name has been coming out of a lot
of people's mouths about a trade to the Dallas Cowboys.
There was a new report late this week on Max Crosby
that is going to make some Raiders fans
a little bit nervous and uncomfortable.
I think most fans want him to stay based on what I've seen,
but he said that Crosby wants
to be a Raider.
He has no desire to leave and is definitely not forcing his way out.
But GM John Spitek is sure to get calls over the next 10 days,
which leaves open the possibility
for another potential blockbuster trade like he
was involved in in March.
And yes, that's right.
I said 10 days.
That runs right to the trade deadline Tuesday, November 10th at 4 p.m.
Eastern.
Notice what all of these reports don't say, though.
It does not say that the Raiders are actively shopping Crosby.
It says that the phone is going to ring
because a lot of teams would like to put in some type
of offer for him.
So let's pump the brakes a little bit
and let's remember that the narrative can change
very quickly here,
but I don't know if he's getting shopped from the team.
I don't think that's happening.
I think it's a matter of other teams calling on Max Crosby.
And this is certainly not the first time
that the Raiders have been in this situation.
For those of you who missed it back in March,
the Raiders agreed to trade Crosby to the Ravens
and the Ravens backed out
at the last second over concerns about his knee and
his physical according to multiple reports
then Crosby had that whole post where he came out and
said hey everything happens for a reason i'm a raider for life
and the talks really calmed down
and quieted down after that so the reports
that came out today are basically saying the same thing
he wants to stay but the phones are going
to continue to ring and if they get a really good
offer if they get those two first round picks
which i don't think is possible anymore
maybe they make a deal still.
Crosby is signed through 2029 at about $30.3 million. So the deal
is big, but it's not like he's untouchable or anything like that.
His cap hit is $35.8 million
this year. Then it drops a lot to $29.8 million in 2027,
$27.3 million in 2028, and
28.2 million in 2029 and any team
that's calling knows what they're taking on in terms of the
injury risk and the risks that you know
the Ravens walked away already from in March so I don't think
there's an endless line of buyers
or anything like that but there are certainly teams that are
interested in him still and he is still producing maybe
not to the level that everybody knows him
to maybe you know it's a bit of a slow start with two sacks
and 18 tackles so far this season and
And there's a couple other guys on the team
That have more sacks than he does.
He's also chasing history right now.
He's about 20 tackles away from passing Branch.
For third in franchise history.
He already passed Michael Huff for fourth on that list.
So he is a Raider whose name keeps on moving up the record book.
Crosby had a pretty electric quote last week as well.
And he said that his defense is going to fix the run.
And said quote.
It is about whooping a man's ass.
And I will bet.
on us that does sound like and listen he can say whatever he wants
and play the PR game but it
sounds like a man who wants to stay in Las Vegas
and fix this at three and four and four losses in
a row this is a huge game to see who's performing against the Jets
and whether Spytek picks up that
phone
in a couple days time. I'm thinking that Crosby
is going to end up staying. I think that the
returns that they could have got
for him have pretty much evaporated. I think that he seems
like a guy who wants to be here.
I think a lot of fans do want him here. You know, a lot of media
members are calling him and insiders the face of the franchise.
So I don't think he ends up moving.
As for the moves that they made today,
Besh definitely helps and is a great story. Keenan
and Sloane are going to be depth for this team.
Johnson's injury hurts the line more than any
of the three moves, you know, probably help it.
So if Besh catches a few passes and Sloane gets on the field
and there's that whole story, you know, nobody's going to be talking
about the moves that they made today or some of the speculation
if they have a good game.
But if this defense has another bad day, another bad performance,
everyone will be talking about Max Crosby and the trade deadline
come Monday morning.
And if they do pick up the phone
and make a trade, you will hear it here.
First on Raiders Digest,
I will also have a full reaction to the game after the game tomorrow.
So stay tuned for that here on the channel.
But here's the question for the comments, guys.
I'm going to ask again, would you trade Max Crosby for the right offer?
What are you looking at? Yes or no?
Let me know how you feel in the comments below.
