Chiefs make MULTIPLE moves... Major Injury Updates | Kansas City Chiefs News
Oct 23, 2026
Here's the big news to go over today
as the Kansas City Chiefs have made multiple moves
and ahead of their big game upcoming,
they have made interesting moves, including a new signing.
They got a linebacker coming back from a knee injury
and also just signed a rookie that the
Texans recently let go.
On their own, these moves may not look super impactful, but put them
together and it will tell you what this team
is planning for Sunday night. And one of the signings
is better than fans think.
And we also have some big injury updates that came out, including one
very interesting one. Folks,
you're going to want to stay tuned for all that and more on this
episode. Let's start with the moves.
They have officially designated Cooper McDonald to return
to practice, which is some very good news,
but they also signed linebacker Aiden Fisher to the
practice squad while waiving Cam Jones
and terminating the practice squad contract of
running back Nate Carter. So Cam Jones comes off the 53-man roster,
and that's the spot that Cooper
McDonald is going to take up whenever they decide
to activate him on the practice squad front Nate
Carter's spot goes to Aiden Fisher
and since the practice squad only holds 16 players plus one
international exception somebody always has to go
and that's what happens here for a team as good
as the Chiefs who are 5-0 you have Kenneth Walker
dominating you have Patrick Mahomes these are of
course mainly depth moves
but still very very important as we've seen over the past few seasons
and when you're 5-0 you're not making big moves to fix something
or to drastically change the team
you're making them for depth
and to make sure nothing goes drastically wrong.
Let's start with the good news, Cooper McDonald.
Let's talk about him a little bit. So he went
undrafted back in 2025,
where he played at Washington and then San Diego State, then TCU,
and the Chiefs signed him after a rookie minicamp tryout.
As a rookie last season, as we know,
he played all 17 games with one start,
25 combined tackles, and one tackle for a loss.
Then in week one this year, September 14th against the Broncos,
he hurt his knee on a special teams
play and had to be helped off the field.
It was very unfortunate, obviously, but just two days
later, he was put on the injured reserve,
which means at least four games out, and we haven't
seen him since. And now the Chiefs have officially designated him
to return, which opens a 21-day
window to put him back on the 53-man roster.
And then yesterday, he was finally a limited
participant in his first practice back.
I'm actually very excited to see what Cooper McDonald
can do this year. The AZ Sports recently called him
a key special teamer and the team's top option
at SAM linebacker.
He's 6'3", 240 pounds, and he ran a 4.6640 before the draft.
That's the size
and the speed this team wants running down on kickoffs and punts.
And he's going to be, I expect,
a very, very important and kind of core piece
to this special teams going forward. Now, let's keep
in mind, designated to return doesn't mean he
definitely will play Sunday. But of course, you
don't waive a linebacker the same day unless you
have one you would assume coming back, or at least
on the brink of a return. Let's dive into the next move.
Cam Jones, he came out of Indiana
undrafted back in 2023. The Chiefs signed him.
He played all 17 games back in 2023. And of course,
he got a ring from Super Bowl 58.
And it was very, very exciting that year, as we all know.
But then it got bumpy. The Chiefs waived him back in August of 2025.
The Jets claimed him the next
day. He signed with the Giants.
He's been moving around back in August. He was cut at the final
cuts and i think we covered it on the channel here
so it's been an up and down road for Cam
Jones and now one week in the 53 man roster
the team has waived him he just turned 27 years old
not a huge deal at the end of the day he's going to be somebody
who's going to be bounced around
a lot so it is what it is it's um it's the way
this goes now replacing him is a new guy that
the Chiefs signed that i actually find very interesting
and that is Aiden Fisher he is only
22 years old. He's six foot one, 231 pounds.
He started at James Madison, then followed coach
Kurt Cignetti to Indiana.
And at Indiana, he was a first team All-American just a couple of years
ago in 2024. And then again in 2025.
And between two schools, he made over 300 tackles in 51
college games. And then in January,
he was a national champion when Indiana took down Miami
27 to 21 in the title game.
And in that game, Fisher had four tackles and even a sack. Back
Back at the draft, Houston, the Texans, of course,
took him in the seventh round at pick 243.
He played three games, mainly on special teams,
with 38 snaps and one tackle.
And then on October 17th, in order to make room
for some of the Texans players who were returning,
they let him go.
And just three days later, the Chiefs decide to make the move.
So they clearly value him.
One of the fun parts here is that Khalil Benson,
the undrafted rookie who's been starting at left tackle
while Josh Simmons is out, won that same national title at Indiana.
So the guy protecting Patrick Mahomes'
blindside just got a teammate back.
And another interesting piece is that a report started
to fly comparing Fisher to Drew Tranquil.
And remember, Tranquil is in the final year
of his contract for the Chiefs.
So this may not just be a body for the practice squad.
It could be an early look at what comes next at linebacker.
Or at the very least, he can showcase a little bit of what he has to
offer in case the Chiefs are interested in bringing him back next year.
And finally, we got Nate Carter,
who I'm not going to dive too much into him, folks.
went undrafted in 2025 got into seven games
for Atlanta the Chiefs signed him back in September
and i mean with a running back room that features mainly
of course Kenneth Walker you have Emmett
Johnson you have Smith Jaden not you were never going
to find space for him so you know it's
interesting a quick favorite while we're here

Let's dive into the injury report ahead of the game on Sunday,
because this is where Sunday really gets interesting.
So Wednesday, three Chiefs didn't practice
right tackle Jalen Moore with a concussion.
You have, of course, Rashee Rice, who is dealing
with his hamstring injury and his knee injury, and Josh Simmons.
Now, limited participation, you have Travis Kelce, Cooper McDonald,
and L'Jarius Sneed dealing still with that knee injury.
The good news is, though, multiple players are full go,
including Patrick Mahomes, Trey Smith, Connor, and Allen.
Let's start with Simmons here. Back in September,
of course, Andy Reid said that Simmons has a bulging disc
that was affecting the strength in his leg,
and he hasn't played a game since the middle of August.
Last week, he was limited all three days of practice,
and it was kind of a game-time decision.
We thought there was a chance maybe he would get in mid-last week,
but of course, ultimately decided to hold him out against the Chargers.
But on Monday, Andy Reid said that Josh
is still probably going to be ramping up as we go,
which means he's probably not going to be available this upcoming week.
Then on Wednesday, Nate Taylor
of The Athletic posted what Reid told reporters before practice,
that Moore and Rice wouldn't practice and Josh Simmons,
with his bulging disc, will participate.
Then he didn't.
The official report had him as he did
not participate due to the back injury,
a second line not injury related, so he missed due to personal reasons.
And then later, a team spokesperson called it inadvertent that Simmons
was left off of Reid's list of players who wouldn't practice,
but not everyone bought that.
There were some interesting names out there talking about the Chiefs
lying to reporters and how they're changing the story as it goes.
I'm not ready to go that far, but it's very interesting.
The fact of the matter is, nobody knows what the personal matter
is and nobody probably will, but it's not our business right now,
right? What matters for Sunday is who's protecting Patrick Mahomes,
how Patrick Mahomes is going to do, and just hope that we can get
as healthy as possible ahead of the game on Sunday.
Who's going to be taking Patrick? That is two backups.
You have Khalil Benson, who has been
starting at, of course, left tackle.
And you have Jalen Moore, who got a concussion against the
Chargers. So there's going to be some interesting names coming in.
And whether Moore plays or not
isn't up to him or the team,
it's up to an independent neurologist, apparently. So there's
just crazy situations going on all across the team.
And at the end of the day, I just want them
to get healthy again. You know, Rashee Rice as well.
He hurt his hamstring in the first quarter
of week four we all know that before that he
was looking very solid 13 catches 190 yards and Reid
gave an update on Wednesday saying
that he's getting better as we go day by day so that helps
folks we all know they desperately need him
but in the meantime you have Jalen Royals you have
Andrew Armstrong you have Allen they've been picking up the snaps
but realistically folks
if this team wants to make the playoffs
of course they will I would assume and win the Super Bowl
again you're gonna need Rashee Rice on the other side
of things Seattle they had three linebackers
mispractice which is actually interesting Drake Thomas Connor OlCuhn
and Chaz Surratt so you know
they do have Charbonnet who's going to be available
and coming back from a torn ACL so that's going to
be interesting to see how the uh see
if the Chiefs defense matches up there but tons of moves all the
way around and something to keep an eye out later
this afternoon will be whether Rice or Simmons
get in the field in any form and how they look
so folks are you worried about Sunday night obviously
the Chiefs right now are five and oh Mahomes
is playing well Kenneth Walker is playing out of
his mind it's going to be a wild game a wild atmosphere
and ultimately the Chiefs made multiple
moves here and they look like small moves on the surface
but as we all know throughout a season it
gets long every one of these games matter
and hopefully Rasheed Rice can make his return and
hopefully of course Simmons as well comes back
so tell me in the comments who's the bigger loss
on Sunday if he can't go is it Josh Simmons
or is it Rashee Rice I think I'm going to know most of
your guys's answers but let me know down below

Comment, what are your thoughts on Aiden, the new signing?
Do you think he's actually going to have an impact?
It may not be a massive impact, but it's
definitely going to be some sort of impact.
Thank you guys for watching, folks.
See you guys in the next one.
