Trade talks ESCALATING... MAJOR Red Wings trade update
Nov 1, 2026
Trade reports are continuing to escalate for the Detroit Red Wings,
this time revolving around Simon Edvinsson as a new report reveals
that a trade offer is on the table for Sean Horkoff and what the plan
is from ownership in terms of keeping Simon Edvinsson and that plan.
We're going to break that all down and much more,
including a Western Conference team that is all in.
on Simon Edvinsson we're going to break it all down
and much more in this episode of Red Wings Digest
but Mark let's waste no time let's get right
into a brand new report from Elliot Friedman and we've
been discussing Dylan Larkin ad nauseam the last little
while so um you know it's nice to talk
about something else but unfortunate
that it's still trade reports with Detroit Red Wings and
for a great young player now you can see
this mention on a previous podcast is from Elliot
Friedman in fact Carolina
We've got a history of poking around
and threatening offer sheets on a guy like Simon
Edvinsson.
Apparently, it was said that around July 1st,
they were poking around again.
We kind of covered this during the summer,
too, that they were one of the teams.
They were going to trade him to a third team.
They did not name the team or anything like
that, but obviously it didn't happen.
And I have no information
this was revisited any time after the GM change.
So that was around the time, obviously,
the Red Wings went a long period of time in the
summer without a GM period.
But that was before that happened.
Now, in another new report,
he said that I can't speak for certain about the Blues,
but the Blues might have been a team
that were in on Simon Edvinsson as well.
We know that they were in on Alexander Nikishin.
So I thought that was pretty interesting in terms of that new report.
But, Mark, there's another little tidbit from Elliot Friedman, too.
But this sounds like there is a Western Conference team.
That is in on Simon Edvinsson
and some other teams that are poking around with one of them
apparently having an offer on the table for Edvinsson.
Yeah, with this, the list here,
there is one team on this list that has apparently put
an offer.
It's on the table and are willing to pull it.
But again, it's just incompetence coming from the general manager,
the management, the ownership,
whatever you want to call it at this point.
This is a team that genuinely has a guy.
You go back to that first report where he had
an offer sheet on the table from Carolina
and this guy wanted to stay with this organization
so bad he shut that down and said, hey, I
still want to be here.
I want to sign.
You skip ahead in the timeline.
He shows up to camp without said contract,
still signed, and Darius, we are now sitting
on October 30th.
And this is a kid that is still not signed.
Probably looking back at Carolina and saying, hey, please bring me.
I want to come make that offer sheet.
This is now a guy that is getting interest around the league.
And you want to know why he's getting interest?
Because this is a damn good player
that immediately makes any single team in the NHL better.
I don't understand how this ownership, this management, everything.
Can look at this situation and say, hey,
we're going to let this continue pushing out
because we got a report on when they're willing to let this stretch to.
And again, it's just ridiculous what we're getting into at this point.
And according to new reports, Danny Briere,
the GM of the Philadelphia Flyers,
has been ringing up Sean Horkoff at an alarming rate.
Apparently, the Flyers are interested
and engaged in Simon Edvinsson trade talk.
And we know that they had an offer and poked around on Dylan Larkin.
And his camp said, no, we are not going to Philadelphia.
So they were trying.
So he is, you know, ringing Little Caesars Arena.
He's trying to get a hold of the Red Wings to make a trade here.
Now, another team, and I think this one's very interesting,
is the San Jose Sharks apparently have had deep Edvinsson talks
with the Red Wings as well.
So that's another interesting one.
But I want to take it back a little bit because you mentioned it too.
Edvinsson during the summer we kind of talked about
in the summer I glossed over in the intro
and you kind of outlined it there he turned down
he basically told other teams him and his agent
I'm not accepting an offer sheet I'm not I'm
not I want to stay in Detroit I want to be here
and everyone was like I'm buying
a Simon Edvinsson jersey remember that like two months ago
I love this guy and then he's showing up there
was rumors that he bought his own insurance
it could have been the team but there's rumors
that he bought his own insurance to show up to
camp so he could be there so he wouldn't miss anything.
So he can continue skating, that if they did sign
a contract by the start of the season,
he would be in shape, he would be ready to go
and condition, all that type of stuff.
The season starts, there's still no contract.
He's so pissed off about it because it was a slam dunk.
It was a home run.
Sorry for using analogies from other sports,
but it was so easy of a move to make.
And they didn't do it, and they still haven't done it.
They're so mad now that he's open to a trade,
and nobody's going to offer sheet him now.
I mean, it's possible.
You still can until December 1st.
But nobody's going to offer sheet him now.
And now you have a month.
You said it too.
It's October 30th.
You have one month to sign him, or he loses the season.
And that's not just the Red Wings.
That's anyone.
If they want to trade for him,
whatever that looks like, that's anybody.
So you got to get this done soon.
And by the way, I don't care how much you're skating.
We're a month into the season now.
You can practice all you want.
It's going to affect your season the longer this goes on.
So I think it's ridiculous from the Red Wings point of view.
The report is, by the way, and you can see that,
you know, the Red Wings, they're.
goal was to sign him then you have
the Flyers talks you have the Sharks talks all that type
of stuff he wanted to stay here he wanted to be here
and I don't know if he's asking for
something that's completely unreasonable I actually think
the Red Wings are being unreasonable
Mark I don't know if you feel differently by trying
to get him for less than Mo Seider because
they still think like the best player gets paid
the most or whatever the market
changed literally overnight
and it was the Flyers fault actually as well
And if the salary cap wasn't going up every single year,
yes, okay, pay Mo Seider the most
money on this team, because he is the best defenseman
on this team. But when looking at
this, there's a reason why DeBrincat is getting this much money,
the rising cap roll of 10 plus
million dollars.
Every single year, the new norm is different.
We're seeing guys like Cale Makar signed for 20 plus.
We're seeing Leo Carlson, a young forward and a very good one,
signed for 18 million.
Macklin Celebrini, 20 million.
Do you want to know why?
Because the cap roll is going up
and small contracts are looking even smaller as the days go on.
And I don't know what they're looking at.
If this is an old model of ChatGPT
that still told them the salary cap is at $80 million.
But that is not the case.
Ownership groups doing their mid just like Little Caesars pizza.
I just do not get how you can look
at this entire situation with the reports coming out
with this guy wanting to be here, Darius.
Again, it's sickening.
It's just plain sickening looking at it.
You have offers on the table and I flashed this a minute ago.
We're looking at the price gap.
We can see that teams are saying that Detroit has been unrealistic.
In their asking price for this guy,
not only that, they're unrealistic
what they think he's deserving to be paid.
I just don't know what you expect to come from this
when you're that management group on,
hey, we want more than anyone's willing to pay,
but we're also not willing to pay
what Simon Evanson's worth.
Man, again, I'm losing words
for the incompetence within this group.
Yeah, and...
It's pretty interesting, right?
Like, you need a player like this, I think, in your life.
I think he makes you better.
He wanted to be here, right?
Like, he wants to be a part of this group.
And when you're talking about being a part of the group,
a guy like Dylan Larkin did not want to be a part of this group.
He wanted to leave.
He's done.
He quit on the team.
And people are like, oh, I saw some stuff on Twitter this morning.
Oh, don't be so hard on Larkin.
He didn't quit on the team.
Yes, he did.
He literally walked away yesterday.
He said, I'm done.
I'm walking away, even if you're not trading me.
Dylan Larkin's contract is off the books now.
They're not paying him, right?
And it doesn't count against the Caps.
He's suspended.
He's done with the team.
He's never going to play for them again.
They're going to eventually trade him.
That opens up the door to that money,
if you want to operate with an internal Cap that
we've been speculating about the whole time, to sign Simon Edmondson.
He wants, reportedly, on a six or seven year deal, $10 to $11 million.
If you look at where the Cap is in the league,
what do you think Mo Sider is going to be
making?
He's going to be making like $19 million on his next contract, right?
If not more, right?
We don't know exactly where the Cap's going
in the next five years, let's say, but you
have an idea.
He's going to be making something like that.
So I don't think that's that unreasonable for a guy
who can play with them on the top
pairing.
You know what I mean?
So Mark, I want your thoughts on this too.
The game last night, to beat
the Chicago Blackhawks, it was a great game.
Victor Arvidsson, great parting gift from Steve Eisenman.
It's a great signing because they needed help 5-on-5,
and he's genuinely a great 5-on-5 player.
They played very well in that game.
They end up winning.
You have Mo Sander come out with the quote last night,
and I do want to bring it up here in a second,
about why it meant a little bit more for the team, right?
And he's emerging a little bit as a leader in this room too.
He's going to probably be the next captain.
I mean, maybe DeBrincat, but he came out
and said after the game and a great performance,
it meant a little bit more.
I think it came down to that.
This is our squad and we got a really good group in here.
And like, that's a shot right across the bow at Dylan Larkin.
So, you know, he said that there was DeBrincat that came out
and you could see it was just
a great game from the team overall,
which on any given night, they might end up like
you can check the standings tomorrow.
They might be last in the Atlantic.
Everyone in the Atlantic is in it still.
They're still a good team.
If you put them in the Western Conference, they'd be a playoff team, right?
So, they're still playing well.
MBN is a great, bright spot on this team.
It's a lot of bright spots.
So, the team is still playing well.
Remove these dark clouds.
Get a contract done or a trade done.
I'm not talking about Larkin, just Edvinsson.
And maybe, you know, you can start to just move forward.
Move forward and just see what this group can do.
You can see that there was a breath of fresh air
in that group with Dylan Larkin not in that
locker room. And again, it falls back.
I'm like a broken record, but I'm going to continue saying
it. Look at the Ottawa Senators without Brady Tkachuk on that team.
That's a team that's thriving,
playing well. Guess what they got? Future assets.
And they're still a team looking better than
Detroit right now. But I do think this Detroit team,
it's very good. There's so much to love
about this group. The young guys,
the great storylines from young, inspiring players making
Taking the push and I also did want to fall back.
To the internal cap, they're saving money
with Dylan Larkin, but guess what?
They're already the lowest paid payroll in the entire NHL
and somehow expect to make it to the playoff series.
Again, this is an incredible group of players,
but there's so many things and two huge ones that need to be addressed
and you have a month to do it.
Yeah, so.
Lots to get done for the Red Wings here.
Again, the vibe in the room, it seems like, is pretty good.
Alex DeBrincat spoke out too.
And these are two guys, Insider and DeBrincat,
that a lot of people say could be the next captain.
He said, we're happy with the guys we have here
and we're confident in the group here.
They are playing some pretty good hockey.
They're playing some pretty good hockey.
They're in the mix.
Everybody in the Atlantic's in the mix.
Anybody can finish anywhere still, right?
It's going to come down to injuries and streaks.
If you can put a couple games together versus not,
those are the teams that are going to make the playoffs.
And who can stay healthy?
Those are the teams.
that are going to make the playoffs
in the Atlantic, in the Eastern Conference.
But guys, let us know in the comments how you feel
about everything we discussed today in this video.
I think it's ridiculous.
I don't care.
I don't care anymore.
I'm going to say this before we wrap up.
I don't care what anybody has to say about the numbers
or the term or this and leverage, whatever.
The fact that Simon Evanson has
not been signed yet, I think, is a joke.
An absolute joke.
Especially with the money that he's asking for.
You can make the argument that...
Oh, don't give him exactly what he's asking for.
What he's asking for with where the cap is going
and what he is to this team
and how much cap space you have now is not unreasonable.
I don't think it's unreasonable.
Maybe you can get him down to like nine and a half
or 10 or something like that.
And the ask is he's looking for 10 or 11.
So you have to wonder what the team is offering him.
I bet it's like 6.5 or something stupid like that, right?
So let us know how you feel in the comments below.
Mark, any final thoughts on the contract?
I think with that, you just got to get the guy signed.
Like you said, how bad does that offer have to be
with this being stretched out this far?
And guess what?
You've played hardball.
There's no way he's dropping his asking price at this point.
No, I don't think so.
And he said he preferred, and I know it's some leverage plays, right?
Like through the media and stuff like that.
Oh, I prefer it to be traded, right?
I'm sure he would still come back if the contract is right,
but there's a lot going on.
They got to get him signed.
Get him signed tomorrow.
