BREAKING: It's actually happening...
Oct 30, 2026
We have breaking news as it is actually happening.
Dylan Larkin has played his last game as a Detroit Red Wing
as multiple insiders have revealed
a massive new development in the trade saga.
And speaking of trades,
a new report reveals that a resolution is coming sooner
than we all think with Simon Edvinsson.
We're going to break down these new updates.
And yes, that player we just saw,
he's been linked to the Red Wings in...
Trade reports. We're going to break that all down
and much more in this episode of Red Wings Digest.
But guys, before we jump into all of that,
a quick reminder very quickly to hit that subscribe button.
We've noticed that about 85% of you guys
who watch these videos every day are not subscribed to the channel.
So if you want to stay up to date with everything that's happening
with the Red Wings, make sure to hit that subscribe button.
Let's get into it. Let's waste no more time.
Dylan Larkin has played his last game as a Detroit Red Wing.
It was announced this morning that he will
not play tonight and he will sit and Friedman
reports.
That is because he is done.
His team, his camp, whatever you want to call it,
has sped things up a little bit here.
He's not going to play unless he is traded.
and that.
In hopes of getting traded a little bit quicker.
That's why they're doing this.
So we will see how Horcoff, Sean Horcoff, addresses this today.
Because there will be an address to the media, the fans,
everybody about this situation and what's happening.
But the current plan is for Larkin
to not play at all until he is traded.
Now, Sean Horcoff will address the media.
And you can see from Elliot Friedman
that Todd McLellan just told reporters this morning.
That, you know, it will come from Sean Horcoff himself,
the interim general manager.
We've also heard this morning that it's
not going to be a media like press conference.
It's going to be a statement through social media
that they are going to release.
So I have no idea what that statement is going to say.
It's probably going to be all AI,
just like Chris Ilitch's thing on LinkedIn was.
So that's going to be a lot of fun.
But Mark, what do you make of this?
Dylan Larkin has played his last game
and we have a bunch of trade reports to get to
because this is going to speed things up.
A trade could be coming.
By the end of the month.
And I think with Connor Hellebuyck, he set the standard with this now,
where sitting out gets teams kind of panicking
and pushing the trades along.
Now, of course, you want to protect your assets.
You don't want Dylan Larkin going out,
getting an injury and all of this.
But with Dylan Larkin's camp, this came very conveniently after we seen
Connor Hellebuck sit out, his suspension lifted,
and he got traded immediately to the New Jersey Devils.
This is what it is.
And you can see the reports coming through with Frank Cervelli.
It sounds like Larkin's camp has applied pressure.
This is a guy that wants to get out of here.
He made it clear over the offseason.
And honestly, I can't blame him at this point
with this team where they haven't progressed.
They're taking time on absolutely everything they do.
And this is lurking saying, hey, you don't have a choice now.
You have.
No me in the lineup, so he might
as well send me somewhere else, and I think it's going
to get interesting how this affects the value,
how teams look at this as now a possible panic
trade where you have a guy sitting out,
not playing, watching, maybe in the press box,
maybe at home, but serious, this is something that's imminent.
It's going to happen soon, and honestly,
this is something that could come over this weekend
at the point because, again, his camp wants it done,
he wants it done, and I don't think
the Red Wings have a damn choice of this.
I don't think, well, first of all, you're right.
They don't have a choice.
He's going to get traded now in pretty short order.
It might not be today.
It might not be tomorrow, but it's coming very, very soon.
They can't just sit on their hands anymore.
It's going to happen.
And we all knew he was going to get traded, right?
You're probably going to lose the trade,
and we're all making peace with the fact.
I think we've been making peace with the fact since June, right?
So obviously he's not playing today.
It's going to speed things up a little bit.
I don't see it as a panic move because they've
been in trade talks with a lot of teams,
so I think it would just speed up the process
and you'll get something done.
I think the hang-up is...
Some of the prospects, and we'll get to that in a second,
there's two very interesting comments from the last couple
of days I want to highlight in this video as well.
I want to get to those in a second, but again, his ice time's been,
you know, kind of fluctuating throughout the course of the season,
depending on the situation and where they were in a game,
but he's done. This is it. Dylan Larkin has played
his last game as a Red Wing, and that was the last game, so.
That is pretty crazy. And you can see a lot of people
are talking about not getting their hopes up, but Dylan Larkin's still
not skating despite having a maintenance day yesterday.
And then we find out from this new report, it is over, right?
So it progressed over the course of a day, obviously,
maintenance day yesterday, which was, you know, I'm done, basically.
But I want to get into a couple of comments that I saw the last couple
of days. So depending on what the wings get from the Larkin trade
and possibly Evanson trade, which I think is...
Interesting. There's a new theory here flying around because
of this Larkin trade. This team could become way better and take off.
And that's something that a lot of people are talking about now.
If you just remove the drama, right, you remove all the theatrics, all
the turmoil that they've been through, you add some great young players
in the door because that's what the return is for Dylan Larkin.
Maybe this team with where they're at right now
and how well some of these players are playing can take off
and can do something in this Atlantic division, right?
A lot of people are talking about that.
And the other one I want to get to here,
Mark, is not Dylan Mark with stats,
but another one I want to get to on Edmondson specifically is.
Someone was saying, and this is from one of our recent videos,
that they have an inside source of one of their buddies,
but everybody says, I know this guy, I know this guy's cousin,
this friend's a friend, whatever, within the front office.
But this actually, if it's a theory, does kind of make sense
to me that they're waiting to trade Dylan Larkin
with that money they are going to sign Simon Edmondson.
I don't think with the cap the way it is, this screams to me
that you're dealing with and operating with an internal cap,
which is not good if you're the Red Wings or a Red Wings fan.
That's not something you want to hear
because this is one of the most historic franchises in the league.
You should be spending to the cap.
You should be using your resources to your advantage.
But that basically is what they're saying here,
that it's very heavy on draft picks, apparently the trade,
and that once Dylan Larkin is traded,
they will sign Simon Edvidsson, I guess.
So, Mark, do you have any thoughts on that?
Because there's a lot of trade reports we've got to get to as well
in terms of other teams he could be headed to
because there's been rumors about him accepting a trade
to a team that's not on the 10-team trade list,
and two of them are actually pretty surprising.
With this, I just looked to my left on my other screen
and the Red Wings sit currently dead last
when it comes to cap space use this offseason.
And looking at it, the teams above them, the Vancouver Canucks,
a rebuilding team that's won, what, three games over there?
This is a team, if you're using an internal cap,
you just got to fold this team at that point
because you can't do that in a year you want to win.
But now looking at this, it's going
to get interesting because, of course.
You have so many things to decide,
and how long does it take before Simon Edvidsson says,
hey, we're a month away from me not being able to sign this season.
I want to trade.
I refuse to step in this organization, making it public.
There's so much pressure getting put on the Red Wings organization,
and honestly, to the respect of the players,
I can't really blame them with the way things are rolling.
But again, looking at this, you have so many things.
We see teams popping up.
We see reports saying if Montreal was on his trade list,
the trade would have been done last week.
I think at some point something just has to give.
And honestly, I'm worried that maybe the value
they're getting back in trade offers
are just genuinely terrible.
And if he's sitting out,
I think you're put into the position
of having to figure something out ASAP.
And again, a intern GM,
I don't know how much Chris Ilitch has say in this,
but I'm worried that maybe you just don't get the best offer
because you're looking at win now players,
which is genuinely not the move.
I think if Montreal was on the list,
this trade would have got done in the summer, right?
In terms of trade return problem here,
It's because of the teams on the list.
They can't even trade for Dylan Larkin.
So, that's another thing.
The Blues have been, you know, I had the report up there.
The Blues have been rumored to be in on him.
They're not on the list.
The Minnesota Wild have been in the mix the whole time.
Apparently, they made the most offers.
And there's been talks in Detroit checking on Joel Eriksson Ek,
which would be a really good get for the Detroit Red Wings.
They're also looking for prospects in this deal.
They're looking for a first-round pick.
They're looking for a guy who can play in the NHL right now.
That's kind of the package they're looking at right now.
A lot of teams don't want to pay that, especially during the season,
because you waited too long to get this deal done.
Where you probably could have looked at it early in the summer
when there's a lot of different moving parts around the league.
So we were making videos about this in like June and July, Mark.
This is like insane at this point.
We thought it was going to get done then. The guy asked for a trade.
I guess you could sit on it and say, hey, sure.
And they did exactly that. But the way
that's played out probably would have been better to get rid of them.
Earlier at this point, because it's harder to trade them now.
I don't know what type of assets they're getting.
And again, a lot of people are talking about the Montreal Canadiens.
Could the door be creaked open there?
Because that would be an incredible
opportunity for a good trade return,
because they have a lot of really good assets.
That's pretty interesting.
But, guys, let us know how you feel about
Dylan Larkin in the comments below.
Really quickly, you can see from David Paniot,
it sounds like over the last couple of days,
things have really picked up on both
of their fronts from a trade side of things.
So there could be a trade involving Simon Edvinsson.
Now a lot of people are speculating that Dylan Larkin out the door,
Simon Edvinsson gets his contract,
depending on how much money they're
taking on the books in a trade return
because they do want an NHLer in that trade return for Dylan Larkin.
Simon Edvinsson needs to be a Red Wing.
If you want any hope.
And any type of window within the next five or seven years,
Simon Edvinsson needs to be a Detroit Red Wing.
Otherwise, start a new rebuild, honestly.
Like, I know you have Mo Seider,
but, like, outside of that, you have him.
And the MBN looks pretty promising,
but you have barely any center depth.
Finney has been a revelation.
Maybe you get a center back in this trade.
I don't know, but you're in a really tough spot.
But, Mark, do you have any final thoughts on this?
Michael Misa has also been sent back now.
Tarasov is ready.
Again, so it's going to be Tarasov.
Any final thoughts on this?
Because things are about to pick up fast,
and we should probably see a Red Wings trade.
And like you said, I think it's a matter
of this next month is going to dictate how we look at this
team for the next couple of years.
If you're trading Edinson and Dylan Larkin, and you're
not getting value back, that's going to help you in the future.
This is a team that's going to be
in a very long drought and a team that's going
to have to probably be forced into a retool and then
a rebuild because genuinely,
I don't know if I trust this organization's management at this point.
There's a lot of moving pieces
and it's not just management ownership to make the right
moves for the right players involving the right players on your team.
And then what's right.
Uh, but okaying things, does Sean Horcoff have
the authority to actually make these moves.
We don't know for sure.
Like they say it, but do really, right?
Like, do we really know that?
So guys, let us know in the comments
below how you feel about everything.
Dylan Larkin is going to be traded soon.
Uh, they could just still sit on it,
but I mean, probably just get it, get some type
Kind of try to build around or at least insert into the lineup.
Interesting times in Detroit.
See you guys for another video tomorrow.
