So talking about some news today,
the Bengals are in place to trade for a former or trade
away a former first round pick that they got just
a few years ago as the Bengals faced
Shamar Stewart trade decision
and looking at how this would kind of appear for the Bengals.
The name has been circulating of Shamar Stewart.
It's a really strange thing to kind
of think about trading away a first-round pick, and
a lot of strange things happen on the day-to-day in the NFL,
and strange things happen to us
as we get older.
One of the things is your focus, your recovery,
your energy, your strength are just not what
they used to be, but it's a decline that's
so gradual that you really don't even notice
it until it's too late.
And that is where the sponsor.
Of today's video, Mars Men comes into play.
Mars Men uses clinically dosed ingredients like vitamin D,
zinc, boron, and a few others
to naturally support testosterone, energy, and your stamina.
I've noticed that when I'm hitting the gym,
playing some hoops, it really helps me with
my recovery.
It provides steady support without feeling like
an energy boost that you get that's temporary
from pre-workout or energy drinks or anything like that.
And worst case, you don't absolutely love it
and you get your money back with their
90 day money back guarantee.

It really helps out the channel a ton
and we appreciate you guys helping out with that.
Thank you to Mars Men for sponsoring today's video.
As we move on looking at Shamar Stewart's impact up
to this point really has not been
that great and that's just because he
really hasn't gotten a lot of time to play.
And so it begs the question, former first round pick,
you've got some guys in there
who are producing well, you got Boye Mafe,
you know, they've got Miles Murphy there on
the other side, Cedric Johnson has really come out of his shell
and looked like an impactful
player.
And so when you have a player that's raw
and has a lot of athletic ability like Shamar
Stewart, it begs the question.
Are you going to end up trading him?
Are you going to move on from this
and get the value out of him that you can now
before you give it all up and you don't resign him
and then you get nothing out of him
and you barely even got to play him
or really see his potential play out?
Now, I mean, we have to talk about what they'd
be getting in return for this.
So Jeremy Fowler of ESPN,
when talking about the trade deadline report, said that Stewart
is a name a few teams have had circled as a possibility for weeks.
And teams predict a day three pick would most likely would
be the most likely value.
Now, a day three pick, the Bengals really have
to evaluate if that is worth it.
And with a day three pick,
you also have to evaluate the cost of Shamar Stewart in making
this trade happen.
So Deshaun Gupta from Yahoo Sports says
that that is $7.8 million in dead money to clear
a roster spot and pick up a day three pick.
There's a big cost to this.
There is a big cost in trading away a player
that you really haven't let fully develop
up to this point.
And some people I know are going to say,
you know, you say didn't let him develop.
He's gotten his chance.
He got his chance last year
and really didn't see a whole lot out of him.
I don't think you can really take the first season that a player has,
first full season, into account when you're talking about this.
I know that it's part of his career,
and we haven't seen enough to the coaching staff.
He hasn't shown enough to the coaching staff
to be a starter at this point
and get massive reps in these games.
He's been healthy scratches, inactive.
What are they doing with him?
That's genuinely my question
because if you're wanting to get more trade value out of him
and that is your goal, I think you should have him out there
on the field proving himself,
proving his value to these other teams
to have more tape from this year to watch and
see what player they're going to be getting right now in this moment.
Because you look at last year's tape,
you're not going to see the offseason work that he
put in to get to where he is now,
whether that was an increase or a decrease in talent.
Um, we don't know. That's the biggest thing.
And so you have to take into account his contract
4.3 million cap hit.
Uh, he does become an unrestricted unrestricted free agent in 2029.
So more, more team friendly there at the front end
of the deal on his rookie deal. And then 6
6 million in 2028.
So.
You have to look at the upside of it as well.
So Matt Bowen said Stewart has played just eight snaps this season.
So teams would be betting on potential with the 2025 first rounder.
And I don't think that that necessarily means
that it isn't going to happen
because there are defensive end needing teams.
And the Bengals were that this offseason.
So I think it was smart that they kept him along up to this point.
But if you're not going to be playing him,
you might as well get some value out of him, in my opinion.
I know that depth is a key thing
when you talk about getting later on in the season.
But up to this point, it's not a necessity.
And as we get closer to the trade deadline,
I think it just makes more sense to trade him away
and see what value you can get out of him.
So Jeremy Fowler also says the emergence of Cassius Howell,
that's a name I failed to mention earlier.
Don't know how that one eluded me.
But give Cincinnati cover should move it on.
Cannot speak today.
The emergence of rookie Cassius Howell gives
Cincinnati cover should it move on too.
So they have the depth in place
of what they really would be looking at without Shamar
Stewart.
So we'll pull it up here.
Obviously, that's the offense.
But this is talking about if Shamar Stewart is traded,
what this depth would kind of look
like here in a second as we move on to the defensive side.
And there it is right there.
So you're looking at Boye Mafe, Myles Murphy, Cedric Johnson,
Cassius Howell, Isaiah Foskey, all on the edge rush room.
And of course, the defensive line is just looking a whole lot better
than it was last year.
And they're in a lot better place to be able
to even give up a player like this.
I think they're set pretty good, even without Shamar Stewart.
I think they look pretty good right now, even without Shamar Stewart.
And maybe you can get a pick that does help you out in the future
In the future, if...
You know, one of these other guys doesn't pan out
or they're injury prone.
I think when you look on to the future years,
I would like to store up for the future in
a player and just say that, hey,
we kind of missed out on that pick a little bit.
So Paul Dehner Jr. did say the Bengals sound happy
with where Stewart's at and view him
as somebody that will help them this year.
And they can say that, but up to this point,
it doesn't really seem like they're actually
valuing him like that.
They're not playing him like that.
So what do you guys think Cincinnati should do?
Do you think they should trade Shamar Stewart
and trade him for a day three pick, which
is what they're expecting to get out of him?
Do you think maybe trade him only if you're going
to get a better offer than a day three
pick or keep him and develop the upside?
I'm personally in between B and C on this because.
I think if all you can truly get out and you've shopped around a lot,
don't go with the first
offer, but you've shopped around
and all you're seeing are day three offers, I personally think
you take it at this point. I would love to get better.
Maybe, you know, a third or second round
pick. I would love. I don't think they'd get a second out of him.
Maybe a third round pick.
I would love to see. But at this point in the season.
I think that they've shown that they're probably not needy of him
and they really are not going
to use him to figure out that potential.
So recent comment on a video talking about
this trading first round player for a third
round player.
Maybe instead the Bengals could just hire more and or better scouts.
Shamar shouldn't have been taken in the first round.
He got three likes and people are agreeing with him there.
I agree.
I mean, you look at first round for a third-round player,
it might not make sense on paper,
but that's just what its value holds across the league right now
in terms of what these teams are willing to give up
that do need a defensive end.
We're going to find out as we get closer to the trade deadline.
So we got more trade talks to talk about here on Bengals Digest.
So be sure to stay tuned.
Even through the trade deadline, we got daily news for you.
