Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Bengals are considering a trade for Titans running back Tony Pollard to bolster their offensive backfield. While Pollard's efficiency in the inside zone is appealing, the team faces salary cap constraints and ongoing issues with their offensive line and scheme that may outweigh the benefits of adding another player to the rotation.
Bengals trade talks are escalating
as a new trade target was just revealed for the team
to solve a major issue on their offense.
So we talk about if it actually makes sense
for the team to do this and make this move
here today on Bengals Digest.
Thank you for joining us today, wherever you may be.
I'm your host, Adam Mignani.
We appreciate you guys joining us here today.
And we've got a lot to dive into in terms
of some moves that the Bengals can make to
really put them on that next level.
So we talk about it here. First things first, the Bengals
have to weigh the option of trading for Tony Pollard.
Now, I know that there's a lot of talk
this week about the running back game,
and I've talked about it here in terms of, you know,
Samaje Perine and Chase Brown.
Samaje has looked better than Chase Brown in recent weeks and how
that split is going to go forward
because ultimately I think this is a team that can
win this division if they really get some
of these things together and right now they're
not favored on Kalshi to win this division
as you can see the Baltimore Ravens are at
the moment Cincinnati sitting at 24%
so if you trade $25 for the Bengals to win this
division and they do you will end up with $98.87 with Kalshi
so the best part is you
You're trading directly against other users,
not the house like a traditional sports book.
You're buying yes or no contracts on real life events across sports,
politics, even the weather.

So to back up this thing about, you know,
Tony Pollard coming to the Bengals,
Chris Rowling said this,
the Titans won't be able to ask for much
for a 29-year-old running back.
Given the background information, the last year over 17 games,
he had over 1,000 yards
and five touchdowns on a 4.5 average and caught 33 passes.
So there is some appeal there across the league.
I'm sure teams are reaching out
because the Titans' future for this season looks pretty bleak.
For the Bengals, this would be about
strengthening that rotation that they have.
They're going away from their under-center work
that they talked about all offseason long.
So the offense is far better rushing right now when it's Samaje Perine,
not Chase Brown carrying the ball.
They're a lot more efficient.
So we look at the comparison numbers.
um we talked about this in the last video
but changes were obvious in the scheme as
Perine had 4.9 yards per carry compared
to chase brown's three yards per carry and then you look
at Tony Pollard's numbers and pretty pretty solid honestly
a bright point of the Titans offense up
to this point 273 yards on the ground
when you compare that with Chase Brown his numbers 246
yards so very similar in that aspect
a little bit more than Chase Brown up to this point on 68
carries Chase Brown on 71 carries so you know
and then you look at the other numbers for Samaje
Perine the other lead back for the Bengals 110 yards on 27 carries
so there's you know a good
surge of a case to be made for the way
that Tony Pollard has played recently and across the last
five he's averaging you know 5.4 yards
per carry 1.2 yards per reception that's nothing to write
home about so probably not going to be as involved
in the passing game um you know with just a seven
yard average but in terms of rushing yards definitely looking on the up
and up average of
100 over the last five games
so he really wins in a few areas um 24 percent of his carries go to the
right guard and he gets 4.8 a carry
at the right guard league comparison is 3.8 68 carries 4.0 a
carry 24 like i said so you kind of look
at where he's running the ball compared to the rest of the
league and he finds success running that inside zone
which is a lot of what the Bengals run right
now and haven't found a lot of success at now you got
to talk about contract when you're talking
about Tony Pollard and right now he's
on a he's got one year left on his deal 9.3 million dollar
cap hit so you definitely have to take
into account what you're going to be giving up in
terms of money what that financial situation
was going to look like um and so here's what
Vikings fan page had to say after an offseason filled
with questions about his role let alone
if he'd remain a Titan he started his campaign
in effective fashion the 73.6 PFF rushing grade
ranks 11th out of 30 running backs
with at least 44 carries he's below average in gaining yards
after contact or breaking off long runs
but he secured 10 first downs and he hasn't fumbled the
ball yet now we talked about money you got to bring this up
when you're talking about it and
look at the Bengals right now they're they're over
the cap by 7.6 million dollars so they would
definitely have to move some things around um look
at some restructures to be able to even make a
move like this even if it does make sense
so in terms of you know the C-gap weakness um in their
running back room you know on paper adding another back like Pollard
to the mix will keep P Ryan
Fresh Brown a gadget receiver and otherwise
while boosting and boosting overall performance
and hopefully helping the offense finally discover some explosives
on the ground now we know Chase
Brown to be more of the explosive runner
and P Ryan to be more of the efficient runner we talked
about that a lot yesterday
but in terms of adding a third player into the mix does that complicate
things too much for this offense are they fixing
a problem that really isn't broken it's more of a
scheme issue and not a personnel issue
or you know maybe it would mix things up in a good way to have
three very solid running backs all albeit average
this season at best to get that mix up to keep
fresh legs in there I think it might be a move worth considering
but overall I'm curious what
you guys think on this should Cincinnati trade for Tony Pollard
because um you know let's be
honest the Bengals likely won't make many moves
um you talked about it in the comments also more
concerned with our inability to fix the C gap
on outside runs that's what i talked about here
in that last segment that's our weakness
these guys don't fix that the Bengals will not think
we have Tariq Davis and not trade for a corner
or they will think that so i mean i would agree
with that in terms of they really i mean
this they don't make moves like this in the middle of
the season we don't see that very often outside
of you know a few cases of it but in terms of
you know moves that they've made
when you compare this to like the Dexter Lawrence trade it's a very
different scenario but that's a pretty big move
and this is not asking that much from them so do
you guys think that Cincinnati should trade
for Tony Pollard you say a yes for a late round pick
or b no fix the line and usage first I personally
think I'm gonna fall under b for this one in terms
of you know does it really make sense I think in the long term
when you're talking about having to
move money around for this season specifically
and looking at the running backs that they have
I don't know that you're boosting the roster that much
and for right now I think they got to fix the
scheme and the usage of these running backs they got
to get the run game going before you start
looking elsewhere maybe you know they they improve
the touches they get some more carries for these
guys, and they're still not producing,
then I think maybe you look elsewhere, maybe even
looking at trading Chase Brown
or smash a pick Ryan for someone else to elevate the running
game a little bit.
But as of right now, I don't see that really happening,
and I think that they really have
to fix the usage and fix the scheme
that they're going to be using, as well as that
offensive line.
I think they need to block better.
But altogether, let me know what you guys think down
in the comments below, and thank
you guys for joining us, as always, here on Bengals Digest.
Thank
you.
