Trade Reports INTENSIFYING... This is WILD | Red Wings News

Video Summary
AI GeneratedThe Detroit Red Wings are reportedly exploring trade options for defenseman Simon Edvinsson amid a contract stalemate. The San Jose Sharks have emerged as a primary suitor, with discussions involving several young prospects. While there is a desire to keep the talented young defender, the lack of a signed contract by the December 1st deadline makes a trade increasingly likely.
Trade reports are continuing to intensify,
revolving around Simon Edvinson as an NHL
insider has just revealed the Detroit Red Wings
are actively looking at trade options
for the defenseman,
and some of the reported returns are absolutely insane for both teams
involved.
We're going to break that all down
and much more in this episode of Red Wings Digest.
After a very eventful week,
the Red Wings continue to play games that actually look
quite good in this crazy stacked Atlantic division.
And again, much more on this episode.
We're going to break that all down.

Thank you so much, guys. We appreciate the support.
But let's get into it. Let's waste no more time.
The San Jose Sharks have now been reported
to be in active trade conversations
with the Detroit Red Wings for Simon Edvinson.
So you can see from Elliot Friedman, he said with at least.
One serious offer between the two sides.
Now, Mark, you might be wondering what that is.
Well, we're going to let you guys in right now.
This is the trade, and this is the players that have been talked about.
So, first is a great young prospect
in Bystead that has just made his NHL debut.
Essentially, a great young prospect.
Igor Chernyakov, who's been fantastic for the San Jose Sharks,
playing some time on their top line.
And Keaton Verhoff, who just got drafted, right, this past draft.
So they're all up for grabs, but I don't know the combination.
So those are the players that have been.
That's from Sheng Peng, by the way, that just came out the other day,
a notable San Jose Sharks reporter.
So, Mark, what do you make of this?
Because that is, like, it's certainly an interesting return,
But I still think Simon Evanson's...
You know what you have in him when
you're grabbing young players like this,
especially a forward, by the way.
It doesn't really help your defensive end.
I mean, with this, it's come at a convenient time.
Of course, Shang Pang came out with this report,
and we've seen Bystead make his NHL debut
maybe an addition for other teams
to see how this kid can play in the NHL.
So with everything, the timing feels right,
and, like, that offer is seriously on the table.
Now, looking at the other two, it's interesting.
Keaton Verhoff, like you said,
is someone that was just drafted in the first round
over this past draft.
There's a lot of questions about his skating
and everything in between,
but it's a big defender that put up
some relatively decent numbers.
in the NCAA, a guy that continues to work
and has potential to become Simon Edvidsson.
So you're trading a guy for the potential
to become the guy you're trading.
But if you're looking to move,
if this is one of the offers where it's like, hey, Edvidsson's
not coming back, he doesn't want to be here.
Those are some interesting pieces on the table.
And I genuinely think the Sharks are getting aggressive.
They want to make a move.
If you're looking at this, I don't think it's that far off of value.
Listen, I don't want to trade Edvinson.
I want to make it very clear.
But if you're fourth and two corner and you don't have a choice,
Keaton Verhoff with another
young guy and maybe sprinkling a pick,
I think you're starting to work with something.
I still think you want to resign Simon Edvidsson at this point.
If you do trade him, you know why.
And I'm not saying that you're not saying that,
but I think at this point when you look
at, and he's a great young player, Verhoeff, right?
When you're looking at what you have with the Red Wings,
you know what you have, a young 23-year-old defenseman
that can play top-line minutes.
We don't know if some of these prospects are going to turn into
guys who can log that many minutes or be that effective for this team.
You don't know, right?
So in theory, it's a good return because you're getting some skill.
You're getting younger if you want to think about it that way.
But the only reason you trade this guy
is if Simon Evanson goes, no, I'm not coming back.
Like, trade me.
I'm just not going to come back.
I'm done with it.
Detroit Red Wings also reportedly want centers.
So, the other four on this list have
been asked about young centers as well.
So, there was a list of teams, apparently,
that are interested in, you know, Simon Edvidsson and his services.
We've heard so many teams at this point, Mark.
Like, I'm not even going to list them.
There's like 15 teams that are involved that are in on this, right?
So, and his situation is a little bit different,
obviously, than Dylan Larkin.
you know some other situations we've seen around the league
and again he's like a top defenseman
right like you want to keep this guy around i
don't even know again the only reason you're
looking at trade options because the player said
at this point i would prefer one because you screwed
this up that's basically what he's saying
but at the end of the day you would like to keep him so
You know, he reported on October 22nd that he prefers a trade.
Then October 30th, there's some serious offers that have been rejected.
And then you bring it to yesterday where three prospects have actually
been named in trade talks.
So things are progressing on the trade front.
Again, not necessarily that we want that to happen.
So, um,
Again, Edvinsson needs the contract before December 1st.
This has to happen within, and it's November 1st today.
This has to happen within the next month.
But Mark, what do you make of all of this as well?
Do you think, and I want to pose this to you guys in the comments too.
Do you think that this is something that gets resolved?
He ends up staying.
Simon Edvinsson is going to be a Detroit Red Wing.
Or do you think this ultimately ends in a trade?
Because I said it like a month ago and I'm going to stand by it.
I think ultimately it does end in a trade.
And I think they're just looking at what
the best offers are out there right now.
But the fact that it's going to end in a trade,
and if it does, is completely on the Red Wings.
Being a fan of this kid, I want to say that I'm fully confident
that he's going to sign with this organization,
put it behind him, and going to be a major part moving forward.
But again, looking at the timeline, this is a guy that went
into July 1st, and him and his agent said, we're going
to reject every offer sheet we get because we want to be here.
Fast forward to the start of the season,
or just before training camp, where this kid showed up.
No contract and took the risk of getting injured
and playing with this team without the contract.
Guess what they rewarded him with?
We're now over a month away from that,
and this guy's still not signed.
I think it's just a matter of time, Darius.
And I hate to say it, but like...
I think you're going to start seeing the offers pick up
and there is a chance that maybe teams start to pivot.
Maybe San Jose sees another young guy that becomes available
and you got to take the best offer.
If this kid truly doesn't want to be here and it hurts to say that.
And that's, that, that's going to suck, right?
Like that will suck for this team.
And that's kind of the argument we have with Dylan Larkin too.
Like you're probably going to lose that trade, right?
We'll see how they handle that. We'll see how that goes.
Cause there ain't no rush. He's sitting at home now. He's losing money.
Right? So they don't really care about that necessarily. So.
I'll let him sit there for like a year.
But speaking of sitting at home,
Simon Edvinsson is sitting at home right now.
And like we both talked about,
you need to get him signed before December 1st for your team
or if any team wants him to play for them this year.
It has been proven in the past.
There is a lot of different examples of players doing this.
William Nylander, I believe it was in 2018, did the same thing.
And he waited until I think it was the day before,
finally signs his contract, comes to the team.
And I remember some of his teammates saying,
Um, he was way too big because he'd just been working out and skating.
He was not in game shape.
So then his whole season was thrown off by that.
That's something that nobody's really talking about here.
Let's say he does stay and he gets a contract signed.
Let's say they trade him and whoever's getting him
when he's back on the ice.
This whole thing has now affected this season for him.
So you lose essentially.
And I'm not saying he's not going to be great and going to be,
you know, absolutely
Seward or anything like that,
but you're basically losing one of his seasons here.
That's not good asset management at all for the Red Wings.
Uh, if he plays for them or not,
I just don't think that's a great plan.
Right.
So Mark, do you have any final thoughts on this whole situation?
Cause it does sound like it's coming to a head.
Uh, it's going to have to in the next four weeks, obviously.
Like there's no way they let him sit at home, right?
Like for the entire year, like no way that happens.
Right.
No, and that's the thing.
You have a month to the day to get this deal done,
and the way this organization is talking,
they're fine with waiting this out,
and again, that's the last thing you want to do.
It's either sign the kid, give him what he's worth,
because we know what he's worth,
a top-tier defenseman that works perfectly
with your star defenseman.
Now with the offers coming through,
I'm just worried they wait too long
so one pivots to a different team,
you get to December 1st, and you're panicking,
but...
Again, I just want this guy on the team for obvious reasons.
He's a good player.
He was dedicated to this team.
And I think he'll be a big part if he stays of the future of the team,
despite all the future assets you could get.
Guys, let us know how you feel in the comments
below about this whole situation.
Things are getting real.
A lot of you guys, listen, at this point, you know,
you want Simon Edvinsson to stay with this team, right?
Like we do too at the end of the day.
What I think is going to happen is it ends in a trade.
But what you want deep down is to stay
with the team because he's a good player.
But let us know how you feel in the comments below
because this has been completely butchered.
I can't believe it's gotten to this point.
They're going to have to make a decision soon.
And the fact that we can't be delusional.
The fact that some prospects are being named now
in serious trade offers that are either being rejected
or just being reported out there, they're trying to shock them.
Sean Horkoff can say whatever they want,
but they're looking at that trade conversation right now.
