He is BACK with AVENGENCE...
Oct 30, 2026
He is back and he's looking good as the Padres win
this game against the Nationals thanks to
this pitcher's performance after a long IL journey.
How did he do today? Can he keep it up?
What are the stats and stuff? Let's talk about it.
Hi, welcome back to another episode of Padres
Digest with your host, Andrew. Today was a good day.
Sorry, just my camera. Today was a good day
Because A, we won, and B, we got to see Nick Pavetta back finally.
Wow, like we saw some rehab starts, we covered some rehab starts,
but it's nice to actually see him be pretty, pretty good
in some aspects, but not the same Nick Pavetta we're used to,
but no runs, so who cares, right, but we'll get into it,
before we get too deep into the video though, please subscribe
as always, follow us on Instagram, Facebook, Padres Digest, but yeah.
Hi, I know it's super hot today.
It was the second hottest day in Petco Park history.
I think I saw it was like 95 outside where I live.
It's hot and humid because it's raining.
So sorry for you guys, but welcome to my life.
90% of the time.
But what a nice little game.
I feel like we could have done better overall, especially on offense.
Like it wasn't a bad day offensively,
but I felt like we could have done more.
Like we could have done better.
So we were at three for eight, which is cool, right?
It's not bad, but I feel like only three runs
against the Nationals isn't that great.
I forget what his season stats look like.
Yeah, a five ERA.
I thought we could have done much better.
But I mean, three hits from Tatis,
three hits from Merrill, and new hair Machado with two.
Like, when your stars are hidden, cool.
Everyone else, though?
Not really, but...
I guess Bogart's got a hit and a walk, so that's cool.
But, like, I expect more, I think.
I mean, Salas, he's been getting, like, he's had good at-bats.
He's had good hits.
And by hits, I mean, like, good contact, but straight to someone else.
But he's definitely taken a little bit
of a time to adjust to Major League Pitching.
And that's 100% okay.
1,000% okay.
Get him his at-bats.
Let him work through it.
But, yeah.
A little disappointing, but we won, right?
So I can't complain too much.
But I do want us to fix the offense a bit, right?
Not good enough, but still good.
Now, on the pitching side, obviously,
Nick Pavetta, we'll talk about that.
But the five innings pitch, two hits, no anything else, two strikeouts.
Kyle Hart, not a great day, but he has been pretty solid recently.
So I'm sure when I read the Kyle Hart hate comments,
I'm a little too tired to defend them.
But just know.
You're wrong.
He's a good pitcher.
Just not today.
Not today.
B-Rod, the GOAT.
Morajon, the GOAT.
Mason Miller, the GOAT.
Cool, right?
But obviously, I want to talk mostly about Nick Pavetta.
What's up?
So, saw the stat line.
61% strike.
We'll say 62% strike.
So not horrible, not bad.
Only one whiff, though.
Only one whiff.
Locations were a little crazy, a little loco.
Uh, but...
Again, it worked.
So, the good stuff here is that the TJ stuff, overall, pretty A-OK.
I mean, oh, they added some new numbers to it.
Interesting.
Is that new?
I think it is new.
I'm assuming it's by his usual, which would make sense,
because we covered a video about how his spin
and some of his other stuff
is going down off of his old stuff, like, for example, the cutter,
pre-Tommy John or whatever he had again, UCL.
No.
Shoulder injury? Why did I say Tommy John?
It wasn't Tommy John. You know what I mean.
But yeah, so one thing specifically is the cutter sucks.
His cutter sucks. Like it didn't get hit
hard and that's cool. But no whiffs. People did chase it.
But like, this is not good. This is not
good. I don't know what he did to this cutter,
but it definitely isn't thrown the same way it used to
Lower spin on the curveball, lower spin on the cutter.
Uh...
But everything else was cool.
Forcing was good stuff-wise, but did get demolished.
So, yeah, there was definitely parts of his start
where he was definitely getting hit hard.
And there was a couple of times where I thought he gave up a home run,
but Tatis got it at the wall.
So it's not bad,
but it is something worth keeping an eye on
Because
We've obviously seen him be better.
We've obviously seen him be worse.
But if this is the new Nick Pavetta post-injury,
I honestly don't know if this is something
I'd want to explore extending in the offseason.
And I mean by that, like, the club option.
Like, we can deny his option and just make him a free agent, right?
Now, it's one start. He did really good.
So I can't...
be too negative, you know what I mean?
But I still think it's important to
take a look at who he is as a pitcher
now, and if
who he is as a pitcher now,
and we'll get this on his next future starts,
good enough to warrant the contract
that we would have to give him in the
offseason. Because right now, he looks
good results, but not good
as he used to be. Does that make sense?
I'm trying to be really nice, but also be critical,
but not be too overly critical, because obviously,
again, he gave up no earned runs, five innings
pitches as his first start
Uh, in the majors, but I'm also saying this because I saw
his starts in the minors and they were kind of similar.
So I guess the question is, are you okay with Nick Pavetta, who
is not as good as a Nick Pavetta we saw last year, but still decent.
I could see him being a three 50 worst case of four ERA guy right now.
Again, total prediction.
I have no like, well, I don't say I have no basis on it because
obviously I'm showing you the numbers and the differences. Uh, but
We'll just say this is me being pessimistic.
Me being cautiously pessimistic.
Is that a thing?
Cautiously pessimistic.
But I still will give him his flowers,
and I am excited to watch him pitch more, obviously.
And hopefully, somehow, Musgrove comes back.
But if he doesn't, whatever.
But I do like who we have,
and I do hope tomorrow we can see...
I already forgot who's pitching.
Was it KC Maez tomorrow, or was it KC Maez Wednesday?
Tomorrow. I swear to God,
Casey Mines better lock in tomorrow or I'm going to be pissed.
But yeah, nice game. A nice, solid time overall.
I am very curious to know how you guys think about today.
I did miss some parts of it because I
was busy today, but I watched most of it.
But what do you guys think about Nick Pavetta?
Do you think Nick Pavetta was good today?
And by good, I mean like not just like performance stat wise.
I mean like technically good, like stuff good, like pitching good.
Or is good, doesn't matter to you.
As long as they win the game and don't score runs.
Is that good enough for you?
You let me know.
How do you feel about the offense?
Did the offense did enough today?
Because again, we won, but I felt like we could have done better.
Also, Camposano needs to learn how to base run better.
What are you doing?
Why are you halfway to third base on a pop-up
when Merrill could have scored?
Like, what do you mean?
Again, that's besides the point.
Tell me what you guys think about today,
and I will see you guys tomorrow for tomorrow's video.
Hopefully, it'll be nice, fun, and stress-free.
We'll see.
Casey Mize, please lock in.
But yeah, thank you guys so much for watching.

Also, we're still in third place because the Diamondbacks won.
So they're playing the Royals right now.
So they're not going to lose.
So we'll see.
We'll see.
It's a tough battle.
We'll see.
But yeah, thank you for watching.
Goodbye.
