Padres make LAST SECOND Deal...
Oct 29, 2026
The Padres make another sneaky good trade
as this player has been acquired after the deadline.
Someone you probably don't know, but who is he?
Is he any good? Should we be excited?
Let's talk about it.
Hi, welcome back to another episode
of Padres Digest with your host, Andrew.
Today, more trade deadline stuff.
A name we missed because we were watching AJ Preller's post-conference,
press conference, whatever. But this is someone I've heard
the name for or I've heard of him before,
but i don't really know much about him
but i actually don't hate it that's not great there's
not gonna blow anyone away but it's not bad we'll talk about it
in a sec before we get you deep into
the video though please subscribe as always follow us
on x instagram facebook padres digest
uh and thank you to those who are still
on my stream i've been here for like 80 years i am
exhausted uh but let's jump into it right
so here is the move so we acquired Hart and Stratton for
andrew moore who's andrew moore i don't know
should actually pretty much tell you everything
you need to know about this player
but to make room for him uh jason adam was transferred to the
60 day il so not great
but stratton will be optioned to triple a el paso but you know you
gotta do what you gotta do when we haven't seen
jason adam in a while and he probably won't be
back till late august earliest uh but who is he
so actually let me put this on the other one hold
on i can do that real quickly should i have paused
this yes i should have did i no i did not
uh oh god okay hold on let me fix it real quick
okay hi sorry uh yeah i didn't prop very well
as you can probably tell that's okay
so Hunter Stratton, 29 years old, not young not
old uh but he's a guy with really bad ERA
so far in the majors but he's more of a minor leaguer so
far and he's at pre-arbitration
so we can have him for a long time not not a rental uh but he's
not bad but not great so hard hit percentile he
is good at suppressing contact slider is his best
out pitch but he's only pitched like 3.1 innings this year
so small sample size the swinging
strike percentage means he's not a swing
and miss arm elite at limiting hard contact we saw that
already uh slider is a real weapon 31.7
whiff, .173 expected weighted on base average across all
levels this year comfortably his best pitch
but it's not a swing and miss profile otherwise the
28th percentile whiff rate, 25th percentile
swinging strike percentage at AAA.
Command is a question too,
37th percentile walk rate at AAA.
His MLB sample size is too
far too small to draw real
conclusions from. The transaction
log tells its own story. DFA'd by
Atlanta in June, traded to
Pittsburgh, DFA'd again in August. Two
organizations have already moved on from him.
But yeah, he's cheap.
He's a nobody. And that's
fine. What this move is, more
than anything, is depth.
in the bullpen because you know we use
the ever-living heck out of our bullpen so
i don't expect much but expect him to at least save
the arms of our bullpen maybe once or twice
this year and then DFA again uh again he didn't cost as much
so whatever right uh but you can see
the rest of the stats he does have some pretty
good stuff uh 105 104 103 100 105 104 so really
good stuff uh but his strike percentage isn't
great whiffs aren't great besides the slider
uh or the sweeper i guess
so it's he's fine he's fine like we said he's pre-arbitration so
you know we can have him for a very long time i have
a bigger story here is the fact that jason
adam is put to the 60 day il but yeah again don't expect
this move to be like the game changing
bullpen piece like he's just fine
and i think his move is really the how do i word it like the
encompassing feeling of what this trade deadline
was it wasn't anyone too flashy like casey mize
is really good but he's not like flashy like big name like he
was outshined a lot by tarik skuba
uh so i think the moves we made were a good compliment
to what we needed a bat would have
been nice don't get me wrong a bat would have been super nice uh
but this just seems like a
solid backup plan if anything like not a plan b
but like a plan c and it's not like this guy can't
be good maybe with a few ruben niebla sessions
with the really good stuff that he has like i
showed you guys on here he could actually be somebody
and i mean think of like jeremiah
estrada he got dfa'd when we uh got him
and then now he's i can still say one of the better pitchers
on our bullpen i know he's falling off a little bit
but he's still relatively really good so i i
don't i don't want to say you should write him off maybe
the same vein you could think of him
like an Alex excuse me an Alex Jacob type where Alex Jacob's only used
when he need him but i'm
pretty sure he's out of options now we don't want to release him
so like a backup a backup Alex
Jacob maybe is the best way to describe it
but i i i do see the potential in it but i don't know
how many resources we will be willing to waste
in order to make sure he can be good because he'll be
he'll be here for a long time right like he'll be here until uh pre-arb
so like 31 2030 2030 2031 so
like he'll be here for a while
and he'll only be like what 30 something so yeah i i don't know i
don't love it i don't hate it i'm kind of indifferent about it
but i i don't think it was
anything too offensive that people should be mad about it
and be like why would you waste your time
to get Hunter Stratton when you could have used
that time to get a bat like i don't think it's
like that like and obviously he looked at a lot
of bats like you look at Trevor Larnick Alec Burleson
uh Lars Nootbaar before he got traded like it's not like he didn't try
but i don't know this is
just a it's a safe move it's a safe move
and i don't think you should look at it any more than
what it is is a safe move so don't judge him
because he looks like he's bad because he wasn't
supposed to like save us he's just another guy he's just another guy
and you know what i will
never complain about having another guy in this bullpen uh
but yeah i don't know we'll see we'll
see anything i'm missing no also uh if you're wondering
who andrew moore is i have no idea i'll look for
you give me a sec okay really quickly here's andrew moore
then uh now in triple a affiliate
but a 3.46 ERA is actually not bad he
is 26 yeah right there i tried doing the math but the
age is right there i'm stupid
but i mean he's fine kind of the same thing as hunter stratton
fine he wasn't great last year
but he has had some good years i don't know if he's ever been
in the mlb no he's a minor leaguer career minor
leaguer probably why i've never heard of him but
oh well you do what you can do so what
do you guys think oops let me get rid of that
so what do you guys think about this draft
or draft the trade deadline overall i mean we got
casey mize we got robbie ray
and now we got this random dude we didn't get a bat which sucks but i
think overall we made a safe solid deadline i will
say it might screw us later next year because
we're gonna lose a lot of pitchers next year
because of uh contracts and rentals but i don't
know i i am okay with it i'm happy
with it i'm glad we didn't sell the farm like we did last
season like we still kept a lot of the good pieces we have yes we
do have good pieces so yeah hunter
Stratton will he be good will he be bad i have no idea
but the point is is that it's more stability
and what we need on what we all what
do i always say we need on this team more stability so you
