This was a bit crazy, but a good result overall as the Padres pull off the victory thanks to these performances. How crazy was today? Was it actually a good game or a bad game? I don't know. Let's find out. Hi, welcome back to another episode of Padres Digest with your host, Andrew. Today was interesting, but we won. Yay! Uh thank God we didn't get swept. I was going to crash out if we did, uh but we didn't. So that's good. Huge shout out to pitching today. Thank you, offense, for not doing horrible. You did good enough. You did what I said to do yesterday and score at least three runs. So, yay. I'm the manager of the Padres. I'm also one of the minority owners. I invested about a dollar and they're like, OK, Andrew, feel free to join. And now I am. So I have lots of power, as you can tell. We're getting close to 5K. get us there or else, or else I'll cry or something I don't know, let's start with the wild card so today Phillies did win, Padres won, Diamondbacks won, yay I mean boo but the Cubs lost because they played the Diamondbacks so yay uh so we're still I don't know same place so at least we're in the wild card but I don't think any switchups are gonna happen until probably next month so we'll see it's gonna be a huge month next month it's gonna be super stressful so lock in for that uh but starting off with well we started off that but now moving on to this uh three to zero victory very nice I don't know how we kept the pirates off the board but if it works it works you know what I mean Jake Cronenworth huge uh with the glove huge with the bat love seeing that from him Jackson Merrill I have a new theory now that we don't the only way the Padres can win now is if Jackson Merrill has a multi-hit game I don't have any facts to back that up I'm just feel like every single time we lose is because Jackson Merrill goes hitless probably not true but I'm gonna say it anyways Randy Vasquez fifth straight strong start leaning on the sinker heavy makeover and the relief corps besides Griffin Canning was very good Matsui Hart Rodriguez finished scoreless without Miller and Morajone very shaky at some points but if it works it works you know what i mean but a remarkable collective effort from San Diego's pitching staff without Mason Miller and Adrian Morajone standout performances from Yuki Bradley and the back end San Diego maintains its one game edge in the wild card race yay so let's start quickly with hitting so i mean it wasn't amazing overall i mean it was good three for five overall much better than the last two days so i guess we'll say it's good today i won't i won't i won't be a critical hater uh not a great day for Tatis which you know it happens but Chrono Orff looks nice honestly i like Chrono Orff for the two hole like even if he's not hitting like .250 at least he's getting on base at a .300 clip and that's not bad right uh so love that for him Machado cool very slow watching him run makes me laugh but you know good enough cool uh everyone else fine but Gavin Sheets i'm kind of losing the Gavin Sheets love i'm not gonna lie like i still love Sheets but i think once people come back i don't know how many at bat sheets would get because obviously sheets is good but he's playing hurt and like he's playing through it but like at this point i think once someone comes back the smart move might honestly be to put Gavin Sheets on the IL for his foot problem and then you know use some mod taylor i don't even know where undo har is uh so yeah in my opinion uh Xander Bogaerts though not great what's new Federmeen though kind of nice I feel like Federmeen's been kind of sneaky not good but better the second half and that's not really like that much of a hot take but I'll I'll do a little graphic maybe on that to see what it's like but cool for Federmeen right at least not as bad as he was in the beginning of the year pitching wise though Randy Vasquez was very interesting today right so five innings pitch probably could have gone longer but that's fine two walks two strikeouts one hit he had a very good outing except for that one inning where he was prime Strandy Rodriguez and they didn't score anybody so love that for him kyle hart also kind of shaky but they also had really good at bats that inning uh griffin canning sucks uh yuki matsui is the goat and i will not allow any yuki pookie slander and then b rod is great uh also had a kind of sloppy first inning but not really because they kind of got out of it so if it works it works right but for strandy rodriguez his sinker heavy makeover was working right 60 strike percentage zone percentage uh fifth straight strong start like we said so leaning on the sinker cutter forcing per too much mortons going to cam slitter route since those pitchers pitches are easier to control grounders are way up to from 35% before the shift to over 52% since. So he's become a lot more of a ground ball pitcher. The four-seam, though, did get hit hard. .580 expected weighted on-base average on contact. The one soft spot in an otherwise dominant line. .254 ERA over his last 39 innings and 2.29 .71 WHIP over his last seven starts. So he's looking better. He's looking better. Sinker, four-seam, cutter, good pitches. Four-seam did get hit. but you know still good pitches uh change up slider very good just not thrown very often so you know out of the 68 pitches he threw one but overall a 98 on the stuff so a little below average but it worked it worked really well so huge shout out to you Randy Vasquez a good game overall tomorrow should be Casey Mize since today was normally a Casey Mize's day but we should see Casey Mize's today apparently he or tomorrow or no friday because tomorrow's an off day we'll see him friday because apparently he felt fine after throwing today so that'll be nice because we're playing you know the Rays one of the best teams in the league right now so we'll see how that goes but overall I'm happy with today's result yes we could have had Griffin Canning or uh uh Randy Vasquez for longer uh but you know we won who cares I do feel like we've been using Kyle Hart a lot and that's why he's kind of falling off a little bit kind of the same thing what happened with uh B-Rod earlier in the year and now Estrada's injured again if you guys didn't watch my video on Estrada being injured that's crazy but we do have David Morgan so i like David Morgan i don't know if you do and if you don't why he's great i don't think he's great but he's good he's solid he's fine uh but yeah i guess pretty much it i can't think of anything else i'm forgetting uh also Nick Pavetta also threw today uh Christian will have a video on that new ownership Christian have a video on that uh but i think overall i am hopeful for tomorrow tomorrow i keep saying tomorrow for friday i'm not used to saying tomorrow for friday we're playing the Rays they have great team they have good pitching something we absolutely struggled with this series is pitching like i had a graphic yesterday about Twins uh Twins series offense and how good it was for us but then we played Paul Skenes, Ashcraft uh and why did i forget the guy's name today hold on hold on don't yell at me don't yell at me Bubba Chandler Bubba Chandler i'm horrible names so much better pitching here offense not as good but you know they beat us twice so i can't say anything uh so i i am i'm wondering how we do next series because the Rays are a really good team we need to beat really good teams if we want to do anything in the playoffs that shouldn't be a hot take that's the expectation uh but yeah what do you guys think about today do you think the offense had a good game today or a bad game today do you think pitching had a good game today or a bad game today because obviously they scored no runs so it's obviously a good game but they got kind of lucky but also kind of skilled because they got the strikeouts when they mattered the most so maybe it was a good game i don't know you tell me uh but yeah as always thank you guys so much for watching please subscribe as always get us to 5k if you can follow us on x instagram facebook padres digest thank you to our channel members and join membership for awesome bonus features have a fantastic rest of your day go padres keep winning thank you goodbye
