Technology is taking over much of the voting process,
but humans, they are still required
to get the job done. And when thousands show up in person to vote,
poll workers will be there to
make sure that things go smoothly.
Fox News' Brian Webb is live now after watching a poll worker
training session today. Brian.
Yeah, we got to peek behind the curtain to see how they are
trained to do the job, and it is not an easy one.
For starters, they have to know this manual,
200 pages worth, backwards and forwards.
Then they have to know how to work the machines and
to deal with people. And this is a look
at election workers on the job tonight counting
early ballots. This is going to detail how we set up these tabulators.
Poll workers huddle around a
tabulation machine to see how they work from start to finish.
Just one of many lessons they need to
learn by election day. Hannah is an instructor.
Our expectation is to make sure our policies and
procedures are followed
and to ensure that everything gets done to serve the voters.
That is the primary goal.
More than 4,300 poll workers are being trained over
a 45-day period to cover 254 polling sites across the county.
The lessons range from dealing with machines to dealing with people.
On how to use language, professional language,
to maintain their own emotional control
and also help to calm anyone that's maybe getting a little frustrated.
Poll workers are recruited and divided up
as best possible between the two major political parties.
And because of extra scrutiny, we were asked not to show their faces.
It could put them in danger.
We're very protective of them, and we want to make sure that when
they come to a voting location to work that shift, they feel safe.
They know that their community appreciates them.
And so it's important now more than ever that we're able
to provide whatever protections we can for poll workers.
From the big booklet to in-person training,
a chain of command, and even a hotline for serious help,
poll workers are well-equipped for Election Day.
And they're not only poll workers, they're your friends and neighbors.
I think civic duty is very, very strong in our poll workers.
They care very deeply about this process,
about the right to vote, about serving every single voter.
And they're just an incredible example of community members,
and I'm very proud of them.
