AI GeneratedMeteorologist Erica Horvathin reports that a period of pleasant October weather in Arizona is ending as a series of storm systems approach. While Thursday remains dry, significant rain and potential flooding are expected Friday and Sunday, coinciding with Halloween weekend. Following these storms, the region is forecasted to transition into cooler, fall-like temperatures in the 70s.

Welcome back. It was another beautiful day here in the valley.
Temperatures right around
normal for this time in October.
So we have definitely been getting lucky with the weather,
at least the weather between the big storm systems
that we have seen plow through the state.
And we do have another one of those on the way.
So this little period of perfect October
temperatures and sunshine is about to come to an end.
Today we made it into those mid-80s across
the deserts of southern and western Arizona.
We saw 50s up there in Flagstaff, 60s for much of
the Mogollon Rim, and a little warmer in Sedona with a high of 72.
And right now we're already
cooling down quickly in spots like Sedona.
We're at 66, 82 now in Phoenix. Light winds across the
state. It was a little breezier in the high country earlier,
but as the sun sets, we'll see
calmer conditions and the clouds are rolling in from the southwest.
This is just the beginning of
a pretty long, cloudy stretch of weather.
And all of it is coming in from the Pacific, where there's
a ton of moisture just ready to move on shore,
bringing us those cloudy, rainy days. So as we
go through the next 24 hours,
we're going to see quite the increase in moisture in the form of
clouds. Tomorrow's looking cloudy, but pretty dry.
And by around Friday, Thursday night to
Friday morning, we'll start to see a good amount
of rain moving in across the state. Then there's
a lull on Saturday before the next bigger round
of storms move in across Arizona with this upper
level trough. So we have those two main days
of rain that we're expecting Friday and Sunday.
So for Friday, it's mainly going to be scattered showers
and thunderstorms along with some heavy
downpours, not quite as widespread
as what we're going to be seeing from Saturday night
through Sunday. With that storm, it's all around a bigger storm system.
It's bringing in an
atmospheric river of moisture
and so we could see some really high rainfall totals especially
during that second storm and overall this is going
to lead to chances for flooding from pretty much
Friday through Monday morning.
We have a good look at the timing of that rain so far but it you know
things could change it all just takes this storm system
to move in a little bit slower or a little
bit faster to change this. But for now,
since of course it is Halloween weekend, I'll show you what
we've got. Those precip chances will look pretty high on Friday.
They start to drop on Friday night.
Saturday, they're the lowest.
We could see a couple of spotty showers. At this point, it's
looking like maybe the morning
and then a drier afternoon in the valley. But by Saturday night
after 8 p.m., rain chances are back up to 90%
and sticking around through Sunday. As for the
high country, Flagstaff, it's looking very similar
with a lower chance for some hit or miss showers
on Saturday. But by Saturday night,
we are going to be seeing rain for sure. So you'll want to get
out and do that trick-or-treating a little bit earlier
in the evening. And if you do have late
night plans on Halloween night.
Just know that you might get rain then. As for temperatures,
64 will be our low in Phoenix tonight,
50 in Sedona and 35 in Flagstaff. And tomorrow,
temperatures will be similar to today.
Right back to normal, 85 in the Valley. We'll see 68 in
Show Low and 68 in Prescott.
Our 10-day forecast shows temperatures cooling down as the rain moves
in on Friday. Saturday is not too bad, though.
Slightly warmer because we should see some peaks
of sunshine throughout the day,
and then cooling back down on Sunday as that widespread rain
moves in.
But next week is looking gorgeous.
Yeah, after Friday, it's just 70s across the board there.
That looks awesome.
I know.
It's hard to believe.
I know.
We've been waiting for it.
Feeling like fall.
We love it.
Yeah.
All right, Erica.
Thanks.
