This is a very interesting trade development for the Bills...
Oct 28, 2026
Things are getting very interesting for the Buffalo Bills
as we get closer to the NFL trade deadline.
The safety position needs to be addressed on this Bills roster,
and wouldn't you know it,
there are a ton of intriguing safety options out there among
the bad teams in the league
that the Bills should make a push for before this trade deadline.
So today, we are going to go over a few players that are out there
that could be available for the Bills to make a trade for,
And we'll talk about if the Bills will
in fact make a trade for one of those guys.
So welcome everybody to Bills Digest.
I'm Ben Volker and here at Bills Digest we've got you covered
with all things related to the Buffalo Bills.

so that you can stay up to date on all Bills content just like this.
And yesterday we talked about the Indianapolis Colts fire sale
that's going on out there in Indianapolis.
We looked at a bunch of players on that Colts roster
that could be dealt to Buffalo and asked you guys
who you thought would be the best fit to come to Buffalo.
And the answer was overwhelmingly in favor of Cam Bynum,
the safety, coming to Buffalo in a trade.
And I agreed. I said it in the video yesterday.
I thought that was the best option for the Bills.
So it got me thinking about other players on other bad teams
in the league, other safeties that could be available.
So today we will be looking at five of those guys
that I think that the Bills could make a trade for.
Let's start with the most obvious fit,
the best fit perhaps for the Bills.
That, of course,
being Amani Hooker that I think gives the Bills its best fit.
And why is that?
Well, first of all, Amani Hooker,
he has shown to be a playmaker throughout his career
And that has continued in the 2024 season with the Tennessee Titans.
He already has two interceptions on the year.
And in addition to those interceptions,
he has 46 tackles, which that might be the weakest
part of our safety room is the fact
that they just cannot bring guys down.
They cannot make tackles when it counts,
which Amani Hooker so far has shown that he has
been able to do.
and yes the salary is a main obstacle for the Bills
and their cap situation but let's be honest
any any of these guys that the Bills are going
to trade for the salary cap will be an issue but
here's why I do think that this Amani Hooker trade
is a great fit for the Bills it is being
projected that Amari Hooker would be dealt
for a fourth round pick in the upcoming draft which the
Bills certainly should be able to cough up
but if I'm the Titans if I'm the Tennessee Titans I'm
sitting there at one and six their their season's over there's
no way they're making the playoffs
I'm thinking about how we can develop Cam Ward
that is what their goal for the rest of the season
should be and if you look at the Titans offense they
are just absolutely anemic they barely have
any weapons there so here's my proposal I think
that the Bills should trade Josh Palmer in a
fourth round pick to the Tennessee Titans for Amari Hooker.
I think that is a match made in
heaven. The Titans get another piece for Cam Ward
to develop around in Josh Palmer. The Bills get
rid of that Josh Palmer contract, bring in Amari Hooker,
and go and make a Super Bowl push. I think
that is a fantastic trade-off for the Bills
that I certainly could see happening. But there's a lot
of other big guys on this list
and a lot of other big names to get to we will get to all of those
in just a second but first I've got
to let you guys know that today's video is sponsored by
Kalshi and on Kalshi you are trading directly against other users
not the house like traditional
sports books you're buying yes
or no contracts on the outcome of events across sports politics
or even the weather for example right now
on Kalshi here is what I'm looking at this is a
list of all of a bunch of anytime touchdown scorers
in this upcoming Ravens-Bills games.
Obviously, you've got Josh Allen there, James Cook,
the two heavy hitters in that Bills offense.
You've got a bunch of Ravens like Derrick Henry,
but the one I'm going with is down at the bottom.
That's right. I'm going with the Bills defense,
and maybe it's the fact that we're talking about
these explosive safeties
and these playmakers that can change the momentum of the game,
but it's got me feeling a little bit frisky.
And yes, I know, the Bills' defense,
they are among the bottom in most defensive ranks.
But they had a bye week.
They've been hearing the noise all
season about how their defense stinks.
So maybe this is where they come out and make a statement,
make a game-changing play when they need to the most
against Lamar Jackson, who I don't think is going to be 100% himself,
even if he is, in fact, out there.
So I really like this trade here.
for the Buffalo Bills defense to score
a touchdown in this upcoming game.
It's only a 16% chance, and if you place $25 on Kelsey right now,
you could win $157 in return.
So if you are interested in trying out Kelsey,
you can use the link in the description,
trade $25 with code DIGESTNFL,
and get $55 added to your account instantly.
Thank you once again to Kelsey for sponsoring today's video.
All right, let's talk about the other names on this list.
And these guys, they are bigger names than Amani Hooker.
This is if Brandon Bean and company is really shooting for the moon,
going all in on a Super
Bowl push.
All of these guys, I would project
that the Bills would have to give up at least a third
rounder and probably a second rounder,
most likely, if they are going to make this trade.
Let's start with Budda Baker.
I really like Budda Baker as an NFL player.
He's been linked to the Bills for years,
it feels like, for one reason or another.
It just hasn't come together.
I blame Brandon Bean for not pulling the trigger,
but I feel like every trade deadline, we're
talking about Budda Baker and what he can bring to the Bills.
He's still doing it in his age 30 season this year,
44 tackles, one interception.
This is what you're looking for out of a safety,
and I think Budda Baker could, in fact, be
that guy.
Now, yes, like Amani Hooker, Budda Baker is a little bit expensive.
He's under contract until 2028,
so they still get a few years out of Budda Baker.
But I really, really like what Budda Baker brings to the table.
Now, he's not a long-term fit, that is for sure.
And like I said, the Cardinals probably would want
at least a second round pick.
But I think that the Bills, if they have the opportunity,
should give up a second-round pick for Budda Baker.
The other big name that we are looking at for the Bills
to trade at safety would be a guy like a Derwin James.
Now, Derwin James has not been nearly as effective
as Budda Baker this season, but he is a two-time All-Pro.
He has a lot of experience at safety under his belt.
He's had some great years in Los Angeles.
Now, he has been a little bit injured, a little bit banged up
this year, which I do think is a cause for concern.
He also is under contract for a lot longer.
So if the Bills do decide to invest in Derwin James,
they are in it for the long haul.
And he is the same age as Budda Baker.
They are both 30 years old.
So they would be getting Derwin James for a lot longer.
So that is another option that the Bills could potentially explore.
But I have a hard time trusting the Chargers
that they are going to commit to a long-term
rebuild and start from scratch.
I know they are 0-6, but just with Jim Harbaugh in place
and Justin Herbert, it would be tough
to see them trading Derwin James, I think, here.
The next two guys that I want to talk about
are both guys out of the NFC South that I
think if they got either of these two guys,
they would be Super Bowl favorites 100%.
However, it is the fact that both these teams
are in the NFC South, which is kind of wide
open right now because there are really no good teams,
that gets me a little bit hesitant
on the Bills trading for either of these guys.
Let's start with Antoine Winfield.
This would be a home run swing for the Bills.
Now, he hasn't had too much success so far in 2026,
but we know what Antoine Winfield
is capable of.
He's a Super Bowl champion with the Bucks.
He's been a staple of the Bucks for years now.
and yes the Bucs are two and five
but like I said this is the NFC South and the Bucs believe it or
not I think do have somewhat of a chance to win
this division hey I mean someone's gotta win it so
you could see the Bucs stick with Antoine Winfield here like I said he
is a staple of the Bucs they
probably it would be a hefty asking price to move
on from Antoine Winfield and I just I don't know
if the Bucs would be willing to do that.
He is a first-team all-pro,
and like the rest of these guys,
he is a reliable tackler.
But yeah, hard to see the Bucs giving up Antoine Winfield.
The other guy is with the Falcons.
It's Jesse Bates.
And this, if I had to pick,
out of all the five guys we're talking about here,
is the best safety talent on this list as of right now.
You can see what he's done so far this year.
40 tackles, one interception, two forced fumbles.
If you're looking for a pure,
raw playmaker that will absolutely change the momentum of
a game at a moment's notice, Jesse Bates is 100% that guy.
He's had six games in his career where he's gotten
an interception and a forced fumble
in the same game.
This is 100% the playmaker that you want to go out and get.
But like the Bucs with Antoine Winfield,
I can't see the Falcons trading away Jesse Bates.
it would be a tough tough tough sell for the Bills to pry him away
because the Falcons I think even
more so they are three and four
and I think that the Falcons do believe that they can compete they
haven't gotten off to the start that they wanted to see
but they did just take down the 49ers who
were undefeated up to that point
and like I said they are just a half a game out of first place in
the NFC South believe it
or not so I do think that the Falcons would are trying still to compete
And plus, Jesse Bates is a captain in that Falcons defense,
so hard to see them giving up Jesse Bates as well.
And you can just take a look at his contract there.
It would be a very, very expensive option.
But if the Bills are really serious about winning the Super Bowl
and they want to go all out and go Ram style F them picks,
Jesse Bates is the guy I would want
to see the Bills trade for, for sure.
but I want to hear from you guys.
Which safety do you want the Bills to trade for the most? Like I
said, Jesse Bates is my pick,
but if I want to be a little bit more realistic, Amani Hooker,
great fit. Give me Buddha Baker. I think that is the guy.
Like I said, he's been connected to the
Bills for years. I think that is the guy
that would realistically be the Bills' best option,
but let me know what you guys think.
Amani Hooker, Buddha Baker, Derwin James, Antoine Winfield Jr.,
or Jesse Bates, or maybe it's somebody that we didn't mention.
Maybe it's Zach Bond in Philly.
Maybe it's Polamau in Vegas.
Maybe it's somebody else that I haven't even mentioned.
Maybe you are still on the Cam Bynum train as the number one pick.
Let me know down in the comments.
And if you agree with Buddha Baker like I do,
leave a like on this video as well.
But that's all that we have time for here today on Bill's Digest.
Keep it right here.
We'll have a ton of more content coming
your way leading up to that trade deadline.
that is fastly approaching and as well as the upcoming Ravens game too.
So stick around for
all of that. Thank you guys for watching and of course, Go Bills!
