Mets trade talks intensifying.
Yes, it's that time of year and there's multiple big names
on the New York Mets who are increasingly likely to be moved
this offseason and would completely change the outlook
and landscape of this New York Metropolitan roster.
We'll get into who those guys are,
what the implications would be if they were to be dealt,
and why or why not it may not be the best move for the organization.
What's going on, guys? I'm Josh Byrne. You're tuned into Mets Digest.

And let's break down the top names
to watch for to be moved this offseason.
Starting with Kodai Senga. His Mets role could make him tradable.
Now, when we talk about Kodai Senga,
we know that this is a guy who has evolved in terms
of what he has been asked to do as a New York Metropolitan.
He was brought in to lead the starting rotation.
He did a great job of that back in 2023.
But unfortunately, through injuries,
through inconsistent play, he just hasn't been the
same guy since then.
And so Mets management made a pretty big decision
to move him to the bullpen this past year.
And overall, it worked out pretty well.
Kodai Senga in that ninth inning role was very good.
And it was a lot different
from what we'd seen him been doing in the past.
David Stearns spoke in his end of season conference about Kodai Senga.
And he said, in terms of his role,
I think we'll make that determination as we get into
spring training and see where we are.
furthermore he goes on to say we
also understand that we need a level of production whatever role
he's going to be in to contribute to a winning team now it's no secret
and this makes sense
Kodai Senga wants to start he wants to be in the rotation
and Andy Green said that he's been really
good about expressing to us that his passion resides
in the organization look his his 2024
line he put up an ERA that was pretty pretty awful
um but when you look at what he actually
did in the bullpen specifically
in those one inning situations he converted eight of nine
saves he wasn't half bad at all
and he was able to turn his fortunes around and if you're interested

that's the Otis Edge now in terms of the edge
for the Mets rotation I mean these this is what
the options are looking like you look at the New York Mets right now
and what they have constructed
in that pitching room and they have in terms
of Kodai Senga a guy who is immensely talented we
know that he has the fork ball he was getting his fastball up
but if you ask me he's better
in that late inning situation and I think
when you look at the Mets rotation you wonder despite
the fact that Senga had success they're pretty
much they're pretty much set in the starting
rotation and that begs the question
that Kodai Senga may very well be on his way out soon I think
it's a definitive possibility now if the Mets
do decide to go that route I believe they would need
to eat a chunk of the 15 million dollars he's owed next year
but whereas a couple months ago
he had little to no value now he does have some
value he absolutely does building off of what he
did in that ninth inning role
and I think the Mets could potentially get legitimate prospect
value based on the potential assuming they would go out
and eat some of his money because in the
rotation. The Mets are set in the bullpen.
They could very well go out and add to it through the
free agency route. And then we move on to the starting lineup.
I showed you the lineup there
a second ago, and I think this is a name that we're
not entirely surprised to hear in the trade
discussions. Mark Vientos faces a Mets roster crunch.
Frankly, he faced a Mets roster crunch
last year, and it's been no secret that he wants
to stay with the organization. He said,
do I want to be a New York Met?
Of course I want to be a New York Met. And these trade discussions
have followed him. Why? Because after 2024,
where he had this dream book season in which everything
kind of clicked and he had a great postseason,
was a big reason the Mets went to the NL Championship
Series. Things faltered for him.
He didn't have the same kind of success in 2025, and it carried
over to 2026 now for Mark Vientos he had an opportunity this year
because Jorge Polanco
is not healthy and it allowed him to have more
at bats to have more of a window where he could
prove himself and when you look at what Vientos did over
the course of 2026 I mean the power was
still there but you look at the OPS it
was in the mid 600s it just wasn't good enough it wasn't good
enough you can't have a .258 on base percentage
and be an everyday player his defense at first
base was terrible amongst the worst of any at the position
and while it's clear he's got serious
power he can do damage semi-consistently
against left-handed pitching with the extended
disappointment from his production as well
as the influx of talent in the Mets upper minor
leagues. Mark Vientos is a guy who I absolutely think is on the block,
and part of me expects
him to be traded. Now, Vientos is no stranger to this.
He said, there's always talks. I think I've
been doing a better job of turning my phone off
and staying focused on what's going on in the
present. But there's a serious roster dilemma,
and this was pointed out. Now, this was tweeted by
the Mets could conceivably tender Vientos a contract
and use him as part of a DH platoon
or as a power bat off the bench they could
do that but it's just unclear where exactly Vientos fits
because you have Jared Young
and you could say oh well he could be the right-handed platoon at first
he didn't play good defense at first base he actively cost
the team in the field and that's
something that for David Stearns
who wants to prioritize defense he's got to consider and
Vientos is at a decision point
because as I pointed out he broke out in 2024 and it's been
different stories since then he was one of my favorite players
when he was hitting you know
nukes in the playoffs but he has not been the same since
then and I think it's it's time potentially
to move on. Now, Ronnie Mauricio is another guy
who I believe the Mets have completely botched
in his development.
And again, it goes back to the roster is tight.
And if you're just going
based on his major league experience,
how could you find a spot for him? You talk about the Mets
top prospect Jefferson Rojas being close.
You talk about Mitch Voit making strides. You talk
about the fact that despite Brett Beatty
not being you know what we expected him to be when
he was drafted in the first round still providing value
as a Swiss Army knife you figure he's going
to be on the team Ronny Mauricio it's tough
to see there's a lot of infield options for the New
York Mets and there's nearly no spots available
and you figure they will be adding a first baseman
or at least they better be but let me know what you guys think
who do you believe is most likely
to be traded Ronny Mauricio Mark Vientos
or Kodai Senga comment below let me know and as always guys
let's go Mets
