Russian forces attacked Kyiv with a barrage of missiles and drones overnight into Thursday, killing one person and injuring at least 22 others, as strikes hit residential areas and damaged infrastructure, local authorities said. According to Associated Press rescuers responded in six districts of the capital. Four children were among the injured, said Pavlo Petrov, head of the Kyiv press office of Ukraine’s State Emergency Service. Civilian infrastructure sustained the most damage in the Dniprovskyi district, where one person was killed and six were injured, including a child. “A strike hit near a private home on one of the streets, causing a fire covering 100 square meters,” Petrov said. “At least four homes on neighboring streets were damaged.” Residents salvaged belongings from the rubble, with a crater visible outside a destroyed residential building. “They found part of a missile near a child’s bed,” said Nataliia Kiriieva, 43, a Kyiv resident. “Everything was here until literally 10:07 p.m., and then, in an instant, nothing is left.” Kiriieva said she grabbed her daughter, who was settling down to sleep, and rushed downstairs when the first strike hit nearby. She put her on a bed with the other two children, then lay over them to shield them as the house was damaged. “I don’t know what was happening. I usually freeze in situations like this. But this time, you know, I just lay over them,” she said. Transport infrastructure was damaged in the Darnytskyi district. In the Sviatoshynskyi district, firefighters extinguished a blaze spanning more than 1,100 square meters at a non-residential building and a restaurant complex, the emergency service said. Eight people were injured in the Pecherskyi district, where buildings, ambulances and a monastery were damaged. Another eight were injured in the Holosiivskyi and Obolonskyi districts, where non-residential buildings were damaged.
