This is a big rivalry, isn't it?
Chet versus Wemby.
They hate each other.
Got into a brawl.
Got into a skirmish.
Mainly, I wanted to talk about Wemby
because I feel like we talked about this hypothetical trade,
which I always enjoy these hypothetical trade talks.
But Victor Wembanyama was awful on the offensive end.
Not awful.
Trash.
He was talking to himself at the free throw line,
like a seance or something.
It was just weird.
He was just acting weird.
I don't know what he does.
I mean, he went to that Shaolin over the offseason a few years ago.
That helped him.
I mean, they got to the finals, but now it's like, dude,
I'm kind of sick of your gimmicks.
You're just going to dominate everybody finally?
I don't know.
I think it's more like a Zen action.
He's trying to get himself back in order because he knew tonight wasn't
really him.
And then we also knew that OKC finally found a Wimby stopper.
I'm going to spread the rumor right now.
Ain't no rumor.
That ain't no rumor.
And he looks like somebody that's going
to rattle Victor in some type of sort.
And I don't mean rattle him to a core where he's going to stink it up.
But it's somebody just as tall as you,
just as athletic as you, and in your way.
Wemby, what are you going to do?
Are you going to impose your will?
Or are you going to let someone block your shot?
What are we going to do?
He gonna make you feel uncomfortable?
He's a rookie.
He shouldn't make you feel no type of way.
You're a pro.
You've been playing in France for God knows when.
You should be down there imposing your will
at no-holds-barred type of field.
If you're waiting to the third quarter to score a bucket, something is wrong.
This ain't your team.
You're not a star.
Something's wrong.
I thought tonight Oklahoma City came out and said,
here's the big joker.
We ain't waiting around for no playoff series.
We came out.
We threw the big joke on the table immediately.
Listen, that offensive strategy tonight, that was not like, oh,
this is game one.
No, that was like, hey, y'all beat us last year.
We were hurt.
We had a lot of guys missing.
and we didn't have this other big old guy we got now.
Because when Harchenstein, or Hackenstein as I like to call him,
started doing the normal like he was doing last year,
they just brought in a bigger guy.
Jalen Williams made a lot of threes tonight too.
But they just brought in a bigger guy
who could continue to contest him at the rim.
And Ada Mara, we loved him in the draft.
But when they started showing step-back threes of him,
I was out.
I was totally out.
because we didn't
Yeah, we were back in because we knew how good he was
as a traditional center, but he's not that type of player
where he's like, let's do some sidestep threes
and some step backs.
You're not going to do that.
Brother, no.
And look, B, look what happened.
They put him in, even in the preseason.
Yeah, he had some turnaround jumpers,
but his footwork as a traditional center in the post,
the paint is awesome.
Listen, it was the game during the preseason game
versus New Orleans Pelicans when we found out
who he's going to be during the season he ran up
and down the court disturbed everything just was
a lob that he just went from he basically
was running basket to basket line to line that's
all he was doing he was doing the exercise drill
that everybody hate when the coach make you run
touch the free throw line come back touch half
court come back suicide they call it yeah
that's that's all he was
doing and he did that tonight
but he did that tonight against a a bigger body and like you
said John they threw the joker card out there
because you only gonna know what you got until
you use it they use it like one now i know what i only gotta use them
for no other team i might
use them for Denver to see how he goes against Jokic just
to see how that rattles and to see
if that's effective because if it is effective oh
my god buckle your seatbelts and you know what
and you know what i think okc played this as if it
was game eight not if it was game one of the
opening night. They were like, okay,
you know what? Oh, look at the injury report.
Everyone's back healthy. Lace them up.
Let's see what you guys got. We added
a few things, too, by the way.
I think they may
have built the perfect basketball
team. Shai looks phenomenal
as always, even at 32.
They're completely balanced.
They're selfless. Their
defensive rotation is on point.
They got three bigs.
Because, again, against everybody
else, Chet Holmgren's amazing.
Against the Spurs,
he's pathetic. Against
everybody else, he's an all-NBA
player. So, now
that you've got the stopgap for when
he vanishes, when he
comes back against everybody else,
you have balance in the frontcourt.
You have balance in the backcourt. You have
multiple ball handlers. You have multiple
shooters. You have multiple drivers.
You have multiple finishers at the rim.
You have multiple guys who can crash the
backcourt and box out.
So I don't know how you really defend this team
without Wimby going supernova and going,
it doesn't matter what you do.
I'm blocking everything and I'm making every three.
Because again, we got to remember,
Thunder didn't lose by 20 in game seven.
They barely lost in game seven.
Game one was a classic.
Either one of those games flips slightly,
even with the guys that were injured for OKC.
They win that series and they play the New York Knicks in the finals.
So it's not like there was this massive gap
like oh it's the spurs time now like they they
proved obviously great series win for them but
it wasn't this fact is like oh my god they dominated
this thunder team like what are they
gonna do now everyone kind of out of that series
is like well let's see how it looks when they're
fully healthy and let's just see
if they get another center to maybe stop Wemby well they
seems like they did in the draft
but in any case nba opening night opening day thanks guys
