After a strong performance featuring a record-breaking fourth quarter, one speaker argues that McCarthy could be a division-changing talent who was simply a poor fit in Minnesota. While acknowledging the risk of \"garbage time\" stats, they view him as a higher-ceiling option than Jameis Winston.
But I saw something on Sunday that I think may end up being
the difference maker in this division.
And I think, unfortunately for our producer, Chris,
may end up being the best trade in the NFL this season.
And Joe, you mentioned it before it happened.
And you got crapped on for it.
But I'm going to buy J.J. McCarthy, man.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I saw some stuff there.
And usually I'm not that guy.
You know, like, Daniels had that game against Dallas.
What did I say?
Ah, crap.
He's going to crap next game.
I'm not saying that about J.J. McCarthy.
I think there's a chance he takes the Giants to the playoffs.
He made some throws that reminded me of when he was at Michigan.
I'm starting to think that he just couldn't stand Minnesota,
and they couldn't stand him.
243 yards in the fourth quarter.
Giants' all-time passing record.
The history of the Giants.
and i know a lot of garbage time
but he almost made that pass to Likely too at the back of the
end zone you know he he uh it may be Jackson Dart's show moving forward
but if mccarthy plays
halfway decent that five joe could turn into a one
at the end right back to a one at the end of
the season uh for for the new york giants
so i'm gonna light buy right now on the giants going far
man they got a good coach if if J.J. McCarthy
was so good at michigan how could he be so bad
with minnesota i was like everybody else he stinks he stinks
but now i i i'm starting to think that
maybe it was just the scenario that he was in maybe
so maybe not maybe it's just that they
haven't caught film on him now and now they will
and that's the end of it but i found myself
watching that game Joe thinking this is a quarterback
this guy is way better than Winston
And this guy has a chance to be great.
I don't know.
Maybe I'm wrong here.
But that was what I saw.
Yeah, listen.
I think we're going to learn a lot about him and the Giants this week
because it doesn't appear that a lot
of people think they're going to be
even competitive because I keep seeing double digits show up
against Houston this week.
But I had mentioned it the minute Dart went down.
I said, if you're the Giants, do you make the call?
obviously he was on the outs there uh that you know
O'Connell I wanted nothing to do with
J.J. McCarthy and you're sitting there
and he's under contract I think for another couple of years
at the rookie wage so do you make the call
and say hey let's let's bring somebody it can't just
be Jameis like it you can't just go that route uh
and there were a lot of people that no that'll
No, that's not going to happen.
All right.
My thing is, though, Greg,
I need to see it now that a team has a week to prepare for you.
Absolutely.
Nobody on the Saints had any,
there was nothing in the game plan about defending for J.J. McCarthy.
That's absolutely true.
But now we'll see against a, and by the way,
against not a very good Houston defense.
So this whole thing of living off of years spent,
this is not a good Houston defense this year for whatever reason.
I mean, they went to London and got into a shootout
with a team they had no business getting into a shootout with.
So I'm going to be very interested to see coming back from London,
having to play a game at home here against the Giants team.
What does that do to the locker room now?
Do you think the Giants have
a totally different perspective heading into this game?
because even the giants understand what
the Jameis experience is don't they i mean it's like oh god
it doesn't it it's like i i i don't know i don't
know how anybody could watch Jameis Winston and
think that week six is gonna look like week one like it's
the same thing every year like he starts
off good he throws a few touchdowns you feel
and he's gonna be the best broadcaster we've ever had
probably on TV when it's all said
and done yeah there's a reason there's a reason this keeps
happening everywhere that he goes
because he can you know be serviceable and hang in as a backup
for a couple of weeks but if you're rolling
with him as a backup for the whole season
in fantasy football you're very lucky
but reality football you're not like he is going to throw 20
touchdowns and 20 interceptions
and you can't allow that in the NFL and the thing with McCarthy
too is that like he was just making some throws
that i was like wow like how how did he like over
and over and over again and i'm like wait
a second like this isn't just your average guy
and and it may come crashing
and it may be over this week against Houston but it is the one
player that's in the NFL right now
that can completely change a team he's the only one I
think right now in the entire NFL that you say okay
if this guy plays like he was drafted to be
the Giants are going to win the division
the Giants could go further than winning the division
because that's what was supposed to happen
when they when the Vikings drafted him in the first
round and then they you know pivoted back to Darnold
and you know look JJ may not be a great
guy i mean it's it's obvious that things went
so bad for him in Minnesota attitude probably wasn't
there too but he's rescued by the Giants he got
his shot what is that line 10 really is it that
