On the night of Wednesday, October 14, the Russian city of Balakovo in the Saratov region was subjected to a massive drone attack . The targets include a Sberbank data center and energy facilities, according to OSINT analysts from the Exilenova+ Telegram channel.
According to local residents, dozens of explosions were heard throughout the city overnight. Following these explosions, fires broke out in several districts of Balakovo.
The attack on the Sberbank facility was confirmed by the Ukrainian company Fire Point , which produces long-range drones and missiles.
"Well, you didn't think it would be limited to just Yandex, did you? Sberbank, take up the baton!" the company said in a statement.
According to analysts, Sberbank's data center is still under construction, but some of its capacity is already operational. The project cost 122.2 billion rubles, and the facility itself was intended to be one of the largest data centers in Russia. According to available information, the center was intended to service the bank's IT infrastructure. Furthermore, there were previously plans to host services of the state digital platform GosTech on its premises. Satellites recorded a fire right where the data center is located. Analysts also released photos of the aftermath of the strike.
In addition, it is reported that the Defense Forces may have hit energy facilities and the Balakovo Metallurgical Plant.
As a reminder, drones attacked Yandex's data center in Vladimir on the night of October 11. The company reported a major outage and later admitted that the center's operations had been completely halted, with over 80 services down .
Russians were unable to call a taxi either at home or abroad, and a Yandex.Pay outage left some users unable to access their money.
