The situation for the Russian occupation army in Ukraine is rapidly deteriorating. Ukrainian defense forces have regained the initiative and are already conducting offensives on three front lines. Reputable OSINT expert Clement Molin writes about this in his blog . The Ukrainian Armed Forces' key offensive is taking place in the Liman sector. Successes in this sector of the front have secured the northern flank of the Ukrainian Armed Forces' Center group, which is defending Sloviansk. At the same time, Ukrainian troops are advancing in the southwest of the Donetsk region near Komar and Velyka Novosilka. "If the Russian side does nothing, a significant portion of the territory it captured in 2025 could be lost. It will also mean saying goodbye to the prospect of further advancement east of Zaporizhzhia ," Molin writes.
It was also reported that Operation Vivaldi in Donbass was even more successful. Ukrainian forces thwarted a Russian plan to encircle the Kyiv-controlled part of Donetsk Oblast. The counteroffensive Operation Vivaldi in the Liman sector destroyed the northern flank of the Russian group and forced Russian units onto the defensive. According to the Russian command's plan, the offensive was to develop simultaneously from two directions: from Liman in the north and the Pokrovsk-Dobropillya region in the southwest. Russian troops hoped to connect these flanks near Barvinkove in the Kharkiv region in order to encircle the so-called "fortress belt" – the Ukrainian defense and logistics system protecting the Ukrainian-controlled part of Donbas. Operation Vivaldi thwarted a key part of this plan. Moreover, a Euronews report suggests that the Ukrainian offensive may be even more successful than publicly reported. Ukrainian forces advanced along the Ridkodub-Novoye-Novomykhailivka and Yarovaya-Drobyshevo-Stavky lines. As a result, the Russian salient, created for an attack on Slovyansk from the northeast, effectively collapsed. According to Andriy Biletsky, commander of the 3rd Army Corps of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, during the first three stages of the operation in the second half of September, Ukrainian troops liberated 176 square kilometers of territory. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy previously estimated the liberated area at 125-140 square kilometers as of October 3. ISW analysts admit that the actual results of the operation could have been more significant than Kyiv's official estimates, since the Ukrainian Armed Forces military command reports all key information with a delay of weeks or even months.
