During the war against Ukraine on September 27, Russian occupiers suffered record daily losses since the beginning of the war.
This is stated in a British intelligence report. Analysts noted that the occupiers lost 2,090 people killed and wounded that day. "This is the highest daily toll in the entire Russo-Ukrainian war," the UK Ministry of Defence analysts stated.
They noted that this is only the fourth time that the Russian army's daily losses have exceeded 2,000. The three previous records were set back in 2024. British analysts emphasized that the level of Russian casualties has remained consistently high since the summer and is due to the Kremlin continuing to attempt an offensive in the "fortress belt" area of the Donetsk region, particularly in the Dobropillia region.
The 1st Azov Corps of the National Guard of Ukraine reported that Defense Forces continue to control the city of Dobropillia in Donetsk region despite fake reports by Russia’s Ministry of Defense, while Russian assault groups are promptly identified and destroyed on the approaches to the city. “The Defense Forces of Ukraine continue to control Dobropillia despite fake reports by Russia’s Ministry of Defense. The corps noted that the city of Dobropillia remains under the control of the Defense Forces, while Russian assault groups are promptly identified and destroyed on the approaches to the city when attempting to infiltrate the space between positions. Russian forces are maintaining the highest pace of offensive operations precisely in the Dobropillia sector, but have achieved only minor results there. Ukrainian drones are thwarting the enemy’s attempts to establish footholds and are creating logistical problems for Russian units. Russia’s Defense Ministry said on Sept. 24 that Russian troops had captured a village also called Dobropillia, known in Russian military reporting as Dobropillia Male, and claimed Ukrainian troops were surrounded in the area of the city of Dobropillia.
The village and the city are separate settlements in Donetsk Oblast’s Pokrovsk district, located several kilometers apart.
Russia’s Defense Ministry claimed elements of its 51st Combined Arms Army had seized the smaller settlement southwest of the city and expanded what it described as an “outer encirclement ring.”
The Institute for the Study of War said it had observed no battlefield evidence supporting Russia’s claim that Ukrainian forces in the city had been encircled. ISW had observed Russian infiltration groups east and northeast of Dobropillia but assessed that they had not consolidated control over those positions.
The institute described Moscow’s claims as part of a broader information campaign intended to exaggerate Russian battlefield successes and portray Ukrainian defenses as collapsing. ISW also assessed that repeated Russian claims about Dobropillia were intended in part to divert attention from Ukrainian gains farther north near Lyman.
Ukrainian forces have eliminated a Russian salient north of Lyman in recent months, disrupting what ISW assesses was a Russian plan to advance from the Lyman and Dobropillia axes and eventually encircle Ukraine’s fortified Sloviansk-Kramatorsk urban area.
