The Russian Azov Optical and Mechanical Plant , which was recently struck by the Defense Forces, is a particularly interesting target, as it produces a wide range of critical weapons components and is also a "weak link" in the Russian military-industrial complex. This was stated by Dmitry Pletenchuk, press secretary of the Ukrainian Navy, during a telethon broadcast.

"The list of capabilities of this enterprise is quite extensive. These include various components used in Russian-made weapons systems that are directly used by the enemy to carry out strikes and conduct combat operations. Therefore, this is a very interesting target," Pletenchuk said.

According to him, it's difficult to say how quickly the plant will recover, given Russia's fairly powerful military-industrial complex. At the same time, the military official noted that the component base is the weakest point of "this link," as the vast majority of components in modern Russian weapons are still foreign-made. Therefore, the more Russians use foreign products, the more difficult it will be to maintain the production rate of various types of weapons, the representative believes. He noted that the enemy can only exploit the Odesa and Mykolaiv regions through air attacks. The Russians currently lack the ability to achieve success by land, and they cannot reach the Ukrainian coast by sea. "In this 'theater,' you can see everything from drones of all types—reconnaissance, attack, and even operational-tactical drones that can both conduct reconnaissance and carry out strikes—to aircraft and missiles. Of course, all of these are very complex mechanisms, containing many such components," Pletenchuk said.

The plant had already been attacked last summer, but continued to operate. As the press secretary noted, this was a large enterprise: the enemy likely managed to restore some of its equipment, or "something remained," so the decision was made to target it again.

He also explained that the Neptune missile that hit the object can hit a wide variety of targets.

"The list is endless," the military man emphasized.

According to him, this is a missile that was originally developed as an anti-ship missile—for engaging relatively small, moving targets that are significantly more difficult to hit than a shipyard. Currently, the Ukrainian Navy remains the sole operator of this system.

As reported, the Ukrainian Defense Forces recently struck the Azov Optical-Mechanical Plant in Russia's Rostov Oblast. The Ukrainian Navy, using Neptune cruise missiles, carried out the strike as part of a joint operation with the Security Service of Ukraine. The plant's production facilities, including optical and foundry facilities, an assembly line, a galvanic shop, and a printed circuit board shop, were damaged. This plant, part of the Russian defense industry complex, produces optical-electronic components for military equipment and weapons. According to the Navy, the products are used in weapons used by Russia to launch missile strikes on the Odesa and Mykolaiv Oblasts.
