Videos circulating on social media reportedly showing a mass surrender of pro-Saudi forces to Yemen’s Houthis at the Khalid Bin Walid Military Camp, as fighting between the Iran-aligned group and Riyadh-backed forces intensifies. The footage appears to show large numbers of fighters laying down their weapons and surrendering to Houthi forces. The surrender comes as the Houthis have allegedly seized control of the strategically important Red Sea port city of Mocha and are advancing toward the Bab el-Mandeb Strait, Reuters reported, citing three unnamed Yemeni government sources. The escalation follows a series of Houthi attacks in southern Saudi Arabia. Riyadh said dozens of people were wounded after the group targeted several sites in the region. The Houthis claimed on Tuesday that they had struck energy facilities belonging to Saudi oil giant Saudi Aramco in southern areas, describing the attacks as a “broad operation.” Saudi authorities confirmed attacks on several energy-related facilities and installations and vowed to respond firmly, while accusing the Houthis of wounding at least 73 people. The latest developments come as the Houthis battle Yemen’s Riyadh-backed internationally recognised government, which announced counteroffensives against Houthi-held positions across several provinces on Monday. The capture of Mocha and advance toward Bab el-Mandeb could further raise tensions around the strategic maritime chokepoint linking the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden.
