Ukrainian military analyst Evgeny Diky believes that the Russian army will be completely incapacitated by the spring of 2027. When the Russian occupiers lose their offensive potential and can barely even defend themselves, the Ukrainian Defense Forces urgently need to seize the initiative, Yevhen Dykyi argued. It's crucial for Ukraine to take advantage of the enemy's weakness to seize the initiative on the front.
"They don't have 600,000-700,000 fighters specifically. That's everything: with all the logistics, headquarters, hospitals, communications, and police units. All together—600,000-700,000 fighters. There are significantly fewer fighters, and these fighters won't be left by spring. We've said many times that this army is terribly deteriorating, because while they were still recruiting some replacement fighters recently, they stopped recruiting officers and sergeants long ago. They've been gone for a year or a year and a half," Diky said.
The expert also added: "Even if the army is being replenished arithmetically, the quality is completely different. That is, the newly formed units are not the same as those that went into battle. You don't need to be a great strategist or a super-analyst here, but it's a very simple extrapolation of what's happening, and there's no reason to believe that anything will change or proceed any differently at the front."
"So, what's happening clearly points to the fact that this army will completely lose its combat capability around spring. When it completely loses its combat capability, then at that moment we can easily switch places. Not a local, tactical switch, but a global one. That is, starting next spring, the question of what else the Russians can seize will no longer arise," the military analyst concluded.
Recall, Russian army's total losses range from 1.3 million to 1.45 million people, including half a million killed. According to this writes European Truth, citing an unnamed high-ranking NATO official. The official said that Russia may have lost between 1.3 and 1.45 million people during the large-scale invasion. Approximately half a million of that number, he said, were killed. A representative of the alliance shared the bloc's observations: Since early 2026, Russia has maintained the initiative on the front lines, but its successes have been less stable and consistent. "Furthermore, we see no signs of any significant changes in the pace of hostilities or preparations for a major Russian offensive in the near future due to the declining effectiveness of Russian forces on the battlefield," the official added.
Despite all this, Russia is not changing its plans and is trying to advance, the NATO official added in a conversation with journalists. Intense fighting continues along the entire front line, with the Russians applying particular pressure in the Pokrovsk direction in Donetsk Oblast. They are attempting to capture Dobropillia and Kostiantynivka.
