We love making homemade sweet breads, and this one has quickly become a family favorite treat around here. Slice it up warm right out of the oven, add a little extra butter on top, or save half in the freezer for later. Grab your ripe bananas and let us get right into baking!
Ingredients 3 very ripe bananas 2 eggs, room temperature 6 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled 1/4 cup sour cream 1 and 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract 2 cups all purpose flour 3/4 cup sugar 3/4 teaspoon baking soda (floof powder) 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, plus an extra handful for the top Nonstick cooking spray or parchment paper
Tips and Tricks 🍌 Freeze your overripe bananas until you are ready to bake, then just let them thaw to room temperature before mashing. 🍫 Let your mixed batter rest for 5 to 7 minutes before folding in the chocolate chips so they do not sink straight to the bottom of the loaf pan. ✨ Add about a teaspoon of ground cinnamon to your dry ingredients if you want an extra touch of warm spice. 🧈 Make sure your melted butter cools down before whisking it with the eggs so you do not accidentally cook them. 🍞 Sprinkle an extra handful of semisweet chocolate chips across the top of the batter right before popping it in the oven for a gorgeous bakery style look. 🥣 Make a well in the center of your dry ingredients to easily pour in the wet mix and gently fold without overmixing. ❄️ This banana bread freezes wonderfully, so wrap half in foil and freeze it for an easy snack down the road.

Oh my goodness! I think, she's moving up in the world!
Second best kitchen helper ever!
I came in here and started getting all this stuff ready and she's been in here ever since.
So...
You may have to promote this girl!
Welcome back to Snow Dogs Cooking, where if I can cook it, so can you!
Today, once again, I had some bananas I needed to use.
I know, I've done two different ripe banana recipes on here,
but I haven't really done like a banana bread recipe.
So today, I wanted to make banana bread, but with chocolate chips in it.
Because, that's how I like it.
So, I thought I would make it, show you guys how I do it and share the recipe with you.
And of course, third best kitchen helper ever!
Which eventually will have to get promoted to second best kitchen helper ever.
Or maybe, she'll always remain third best kitchen helper ever.
We'll see!
Just hanging out in here.
I just woke her up from a nap as I walked in here.
For this recipe, you are going to need three very ripe bananas.
I just pulled mine out of the freezer a little bit ago and have been letting them sit here
to kind of get back to room temperature.
They're still a little bit cold.
So, you're gonna need three very ripe bananas.
You are going to need two eggs.
You're gonna kind of want to let them get the room temperature as well.
I did already crack them.
You're gonna need six tablespoons of butter, melted, but then kind of cooled.
You don't want it hot, basically, when you pour it in.
So, I went ahead and melted mine.
You're going to need a quarter of a cup of sour cream.
One and a half teaspoons of vanilla.
You're gonna need, for your dry ingredients, two cups of flour.
Three quarters of a cup of sugar.
Three quarters of a tip of floof powder baking soda.
This time, a half a teaspoon of salt.
And then, a cup of chocolate chips.
I am using semi-sweet.
That's what I like to use in this.
And then, I have some extra that I'm gonna sprinkle on the top.
So, you're gonna need a cup plus like a handful, pretty much.
And then, you're gonna need your bread pan.
And I'm using the parchment paper method, which I'm still not very good at.
But, you can either spray your pan or you can use parchment paper.
Spray your parchment paper and then you can like lift the loaf out afterwards.
That's what I'm gonna do.
Some people have asked in the other videos if you can use a silicone pan for this as well.
I would think you can.
I've never made bread in a silicone bread pan.
So, if you have, let me know down in the comments below how it's worked for like the fast bread recipes.
You know, the ones that you don't have to like use yeast and stuff like that.
Let us all know, because now I'm curious.
We are gonna go ahead and preheat our oven to 350.
And then, you're gonna need two bowls.
In this bigger bowl, I'm gonna mix all of these dry ingredients together and kind of whisk them together.
And then, in the smaller bowl, I'm gonna mix all the wet ingredients together.
Excluding the chocolate chips, of course.
I'll show you as I go.
But, two bowls.
Do the dry ingredients in the bigger bowl.
It'll make sense.
Okay, two.
Your big bowl.
You're gonna add your two cups of all-purpose flour.
Then, you're gonna go ahead and add your sugar.
And then, the salt.
Come on, salt. Come out of there.
And then, your loaf powder.
Make sure it's all in there.
Take your whisk and just whisk all this together.
You just want to incorporate all those dry ingredients.
You don't want anything to kind of be left unmixed.
So, I'm gonna whisk this for a little bit.
Make sure it's all whisked together.
Also, I'm not gonna do it this time.
But, sometimes I add a little bit of cinnamon to this as well.
Because I like it.
Not everybody likes the flavor that happens with it.
I like it, even with chocolate.
But, we're not gonna do it today.
We're just gonna make this extra simple today.
Mostly because I'm out of cinnamon.
So, if you want to add like a teaspoon of cinnamon, go ahead.
Once your dry ingredients are all mixed together like this,
you're gonna kind of want to make like a well.
You can see I've kind of done it here.
Where you push most of the dry ingredients around to the side.
The reason we're doing this is once we mix our wet ingredients,
we're gonna pour it in the middle and kind of fold everything together.
And it just makes that a little bit easier.
Hence why we're mixing everything in two separate bowls.
We're gonna take our bananas.
Throw them in this bowl.
Well, we're gonna take the peel off of them before we do that.
And then, throw them in this bowl.
Peel the bananas, throw them in the bowl.
And then, I did mash them with a fork.
I figure I should probably do that before I add everything else.
The butter we're gonna set aside.
We're not gonna add that just yet.
But, we are gonna add all the rest of this.
But first, I sliced a fresh banana to see if the dogs would enjoy it.
Would you like a banana?
You guys are gonna love this.
If she doesn't.
She might not do it.
Are you gonna eat this, Nana?
Yeah, you have to grab it and take it from me.
Oh, you nibbled it?
Okay, we're gonna nibble.
And nibble.
And not too sure.
Are you gonna nibble it again?
You nibbled it.
Okay, try again. Ready?
Ready?
Nana.
Eleanor.
Okay, but you don't want me to hold it, so you can nibble it.
Nibble.
That's how I know that you're my dog.
Cause you don't seem to like bananas either.
Oh, nope.
Almost.
Alright, let's go see if Kira wants one.
Would you like a banana?
And gone.
You love bananas.
You're definitely dad's dog.
Coming back in here.
Did you eat it?
Okay, you've nibbled most of it.
Oh, and it's gone.
Just so you know, that took Eleanor about four minutes to eat.
Alright, so to the Nanas, as I said.
Add your Nilla.
That smells so good.
Add your two Eggies.
And the sour cream, which I probably have...
Oh, I got some of it out.
I still gotta spatula out the rest.
And now, I'm gonna whisk all of that together.
Yes, I still have my butter.
And see how it's still mostly melted?
That's what we want.
We're gonna go ahead and whisk this together.
All whisked together.
Add your butter.
And whisk it in.
Dry ingredients.
Wet ingredients.
Pour this right into the hole you kind of made in the middle.
And yes, I'm gonna take my spatula and get the rest of this out of here as well.
So now, put your whisk away.
Get out another spatula.
You know, Nightmare Before Christmas themed if you can.
And start kind of folding all of this slowly together.
We don't want to over mix it.
But you basically want to incorporate all this.
And you don't want to see anymore flour.
So kind of just fold it all together.
Now, I have a tip for you.
I have made this a few times.
And what I've learned is we don't want the chocolate chips to like sink to the bottom.
So if you actually now let this sit for about like five to seven minutes.
And then fold in your chocolate chips.
They don't tend to sink as much.
It's worked for me.
So that's what we're gonna do.
We're just gonna let this sit here for like five minutes.
And then we're gonna fold in the chocolate chips.
While that's doing that, I'm gonna go ahead and spray this with some non-stick spray.
Apparently, I didn't hit the record button when I poured the chocolate chips in.
But pour the chocolate chips in.
Fold them in.
You're gonna kind of want it to look like this.
And now we're gonna take and we're gonna put that into our pan that I have sprayed with a non-stick spray.
It's gonna look like this.
I don't like how that looks, but oh well.
It is what it is.
And now I'm just gonna sprinkle a couple of chocolate chips on the top here.
And halfway through cooking, depending on how they look, I may do just a few more.
You can kind of see I'm just making sure they're spread out nice and even.
It's just gonna make the top look a little bit cool.
Okay, into the oven this goes for 50 to 60 minutes.
I'm probably gonna do 55 minutes.
Oh my goodness!
So it's out of the oven.
55 minutes is exactly how long mine was in for.
I probably could have done it like 50 minutes.
I don't know. I like it when it's like brown like this on top.
And I love that the top split like it was supposed to.
Now I'm gonna leave it in this pan for 15 minutes to a half an hour.
And then I'm gonna pull it out and let it cool on a rack.
But this smells phenomenal.
I'm so excited for Jamie to get home.
He doesn't even know I was making this today.
Oh my goodness!
You had pretty good timing, huh?
I didn't see that.
I was literally cutting and taking pictures.
And would you like to try chocolate chip banana bread?
Chocolate chip?
Well, yeah, because I don't like bananas.
But I like chocolate covered bananas.
So I wanted to do something different.
I mean, I've made it before, but like...
Now you gotta try it.
Is this my piece?
Yeah, you can have that piece.
That's a big piece.
I cut a little piece for you.
It's still warm.
Yeah, yeah, I said you made it just in time.
Oh, look, we both have Band-Aids on.
Yeah.
Mine fell off, so I just taped it.
What do you think?
That's banana.
See, there's no butter or anything on it.
You can put butter on it if you wanted to, but...
Next time.
Yeah, it won't explode.
Good flavor though, right?
Mm-hmm.
It's good with the chocolate chips.
Gives it a little bit of sweet.
And they're semi-sweet chocolate chips, so it's not like overly sweet.
Yeah? Win?
It's actually, if you don't like banana bread, but kinda like...
Yeah.
Chocolate covered bananas.
Yeah.
That's what it kinda tastes like.
That's a perfect combination.
Yeah, I know. It's a win.
Mm-hmm.
That was pretty good timing, right as Jamie got home.
Getting photos and stuff of this for the thumbnail.
All right, you guys.
This was a win.
We have a couple other banana recipes if you're looking for something else to do with your
ripe bananas, because we know we all have them.
Also, if you do not know this, you can throw your ripe bananas in the freezer and then
just use them when you're ready.
Like, you don't have to use them as soon as they're ripe.
We usually have a couple that we keep in the freezer.
So there's a tip for you.
Also, this bread freezes really well as well.
So if you don't think you're going to eat the whole thing, cut it in half or cut some
of it off, wrap it in some foil, throw it in the freezer.
All right, you guys.
We hope you enjoyed today's video.
As always, thanks so much for watching.
Thanks for subscribing.
Stay positive.
Dream big.
And we will see you again.
Bye-bye.
Party.
