Russian politician Boris Nadezhdin, who positions himself as an opponent of the Putin regime, reported panic among high-ranking officials surrounding Putin. According to him, the Kremlin's security, political, and economic blocs are in deep conflict, as the war Moscow unleashed against Ukraine has become a problem for everyone. He spoke about this on Channel 4 News. "One bloc is waging war, another is managing the economy, and a third must ensure election results. War is now a problem for everyone," Nadezhdin declared. He noted that business, banking, and trade are facing growing problems as Russians outside the war economy have less money and fewer job opportunities. The civilian economy continues to shrink, and shortages of food, medicine, and materials make inflation inevitable. According to Nadezhdin, while two years ago Russians were roughly split between war and peace, now about two-thirds want peace. "This shift in public sentiment is one of the reasons why political red lines within Russia are shifting," he added. The politician noted that after the mobilization in Russia in 2022, Putin and United Russia's ratings fell to their lowest levels in recent years, and are now falling again. "In a democracy, 60-70% approval is a huge figure. In an autocracy, any figure below near-total support signals problems," the politician stated.
As previously reported, Nadezhdin urgently left Russia in July after being designated a "foreign agent" and banned from participating in the State Duma elections. Nadezhdin later said that he first went to Astana, and after receiving French visas, he moved to Paris. He said he faced a choice: either leave Russia or face imprisonment. Recall, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin's paranoia is growing. Amid preparations for the State Duma elections, the Kremlin has even begun to crack down on the so-called "pocket" opposition, seeking to exert maximum control over the electoral process. What's happening indicates a further narrowing of the political space in Russia.
