The Ukrainian air campaign to block Russian airspace began in Moscow. Hundreds of flights are delayed and canceled at Moscow airports, according to the Telegram channel Ukraine Context , which is considered close to the head of the Presidential Administration, Kirill Budanov.

In particular, it is noted that the previously promised campaign to block Russian airspace began with a slight delay.

"But there were compelling reasons for this and requests from some partners," the statement said.

According to the Russian opposition Telegram channel ASTRA, Moscow and the surrounding region were attacked by drones and small balloons.

Reports of Russian air defense operations are coming in from southern Moscow. Specifically, residents of the Kapotnya, Kuzminki, Lyublino, Maryino, Tsaritsyno, Chertanovo, Orekhovo-Borisovo, Tekstilshchiki, Nagatinsky Zaton, and other districts report hearing explosions, and some report observing air defense operations.

Rosaviatsia reported that the "Kovyor" plan is being implemented at four Moscow airports – Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Zhukovsky, and Sheremetyevo. This is due to restrictions imposed due to the danger posed by drones. Specifically, restrictions were in effect at Vnukovo, Domodedovo, and Zhukovsky airports.

As reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy declared that Russian airspace was becoming completely dangerous . He made this statement to international partners and airlines flying to Russian cities.

Some Western analysts believed that Zelenskyy's statement could influence the thinking of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin and the future of the Russian-Ukrainian war. "Drones in Russia's skies will be so numerous that it's worth paying attention to. Although Russian authorities aren't properly reporting this, Russian skies will de facto be closed: the war unleashed by Russia is closing its skies," the Ukrainian president said. Putin responded by claiming that such comments were tantamount to "declaring state terrorism."

As The Independent writes that many international airlines continue to operate flights to Russian airports, especially to major cities. Although Zelenskyy emphasized that civilian aircraft will not be targeted, experts believe his statements could cause alarm among commercial airlines continuing to operate in Russia.

Airlines that have maintained profitable routes linking Russia with Asia, the Middle East and Latin America throughout the conflict include Emirates, Air China, Turkish Airlines, Flydubai, Qatar and Etihad Airways. Katya Glod, deputy head of the foreign policy department at the New Eurasian Strategies Center, told reporters that there are two main reasons why Zelenskyy is making this threat.

"Of course, Zelenskyy is exaggerating in part – this closure is in no way similar to how Ukrainian airspace was closed... As Ukrainian drone strikes intensify, Zelenskyy likely saw this as a good PR moment – a signal to everyone using Russian airspace that they will suffer if they continue to do so," she explained.

Glod added that there may also be a more strategic element behind the Ukrainian president's logic. She is certain that Ukraine is seeking to strike a blow against the Russian economy and military machine.

"If getting to Moscow by plane becomes difficult, this will have significant financial consequences," the expert emphasized.
