Ukraine's 40-day campaign of strikes against Russia, aimed at bringing the war to the heart of Russian territory, has achieved results and is changing the nature of military operations. This is reported in the material of the Australian publication ABC News .
Journalists note that the main targets were oil and gas facilities, logistics centers, and military bases. According to the SBU, at least 100 successful combined strikes were carried out against Russian targets during the campaign. One of the most distant targets was the Omsk Oil Refinery, located approximately 2,700 kilometers from Ukrainian-controlled territory. "Since then, Kyiv has sharply intensified its attacks on Russian territory, launching a series of high-profile long-range missile attacks. Key supply lines have come under attack, and sustained attacks on oil and gas infrastructure in the heart of enemy territory have triggered a fuel crisis," the publication writes. Unmanned aerial systems expert Alexandra Molloy of the University of New South Wales believes that over the years of war, Ukraine has significantly expanded its capabilities in the use of drones at both the tactical and strategic levels. One of the key factors was the growth of drone production. According to the expert, while at the initial stage of the war the talk was about a thousand drones produced per year, now projected production volumes could reach 10 million units per year. This increase in the scale of production changes the very logic of the confrontation. The article, in particular, analyzes how the number of Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil infrastructure has grown since the beginning of the war. While three such strikes were recorded in the first year, 13 in the second, and by the fourth year of the war, the number had exceeded 130. The impact of the attacks on oil infrastructure has also begun to impact Russia's domestic fuel market. Several Russian regions have experienced gasoline supply disruptions, forcing authorities to impose restrictions on its sale. Another target of Ukrainian attacks was the logistics facilities of Russia's largest online retailer, Wildberries. Expert Jennifer Parker notes that Wildberries' importance extends beyond the civilian economy, as the company also supplies certain equipment to the Russian military. In parallel with strikes on economic targets, Ukraine has intensified attacks on Russian military infrastructure. The SBU previously reported the destruction of a Tu-95MS strategic bomber, two Su-35 fighter jets, and two L-39 combat training aircraft. In addition, Ukrainian military forces continue to attack Russian logistics routes in the temporarily occupied territories. According to Parker, the scale of the Ukrainian campaign has become a serious test for Russian air defenses. The effectiveness of Russian air defense systems has proven to be lower than could have been expected before the outbreak of full-scale war. In conclusion, the publication notes that the war is gradually changing its nature. While previously the main confrontation took place along the front line, now long-range strikes against targets located hundreds and even thousands of kilometers from the combat zone are playing an increasingly important role.
