A Russian general was presumably killed in the explosion at the Balzi Rossi restaurant. Secret preparations are underway for his funeral at Troyekurovskoye Cemetery. This was reported by the influential Russian resource "VChK-OGPU", which is considered close to the Russian special services. An explosion rocked the Balzi Rossi restaurant in central Moscow on August 1. The incident occurred during the 55th birthday celebration of the new Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces, Alexander Chaiko. A female courier reportedly brought a package to the party, which detonated. According to the latest reports, five people were killed, including the courier, a security guard, and Chaiko's son-in-law. Since the Russian army's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the geography of losses among the Russian Armed Forces' top command has expanded far beyond the front lines. The elimination of generals is increasingly occurring in the Russian rear, turning Moscow and the Moscow region into a high-risk zone for high-ranking military personnel. Meduza estimates that at least three Russian military leaders have been killed in a series of high-profile acts of sabotage. Another general survived an armed attack, and the latest assassination attempt targeted the recently appointed commander of the Aerospace Forces. The first confirmed victim in this series was Igor Kirillov, the head of the radiation, chemical, and biological defense forces. He was killed in December 2024 as he was leaving his apartment on Ryazansky Prospekt in the capital. The bomb was attached to an ordinary electric scooter, and his aide, Ilya Polikarpov, was killed along with the general. At his trial, the perpetrator of the attack claimed he had been recruited by Ukrainian intelligence services and was subsequently sentenced to life in prison. Several months later, in April 2025, a similar fate befell Yaroslav Moskalik, Deputy Chief of the Main Operations Directorate of the General Staff. An explosive device detonated in a car in the courtyard of a residential building in Balashikha, near Moscow, as the general approached the vehicle. Investigators charged Ignat Kuzin with organizing the attack, labeling him an agent of the Ukrainian special services, and sentenced him to life imprisonment. That winter, in December, the attacks expanded: the car of Fanil Sarvarov, head of the General Staff's Operational Training Directorate, was blown up in a parking lot. The explosion occurred after the military commander had already driven a few meters. Despite the Investigative Committee opening a criminal case, there is still no information on any arrests in this incident. In February 2026, a wave of assassination attempts reached the leadership of the Main Intelligence Directorate. Vladimir Alekseyev, First Deputy Chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the General Staff, was attacked in Moscow. The general, who survived the shooting, is known as one of the key organizers of the so-called volunteer units involved in the fighting against Ukraine. In the spring of 2026, reports emerged of an assassination attempt on Major General Azatbek Omurbekov, who commanded the infamous 64th Motorized Rifle Brigade in 2022. According to the Cheka-OGPU, an explosive device detonated in a mailbox on the territory of a military garrison in Khabarovsk Krai, taking the life of the commander of the communications training battalion. The latest in this series was the assassination attempt on Colonel General Alexander Chaiko , who took command of the Aerospace Forces in May 2026.
