We continue our storm watch coverage
with a couple of warnings now for
northern Nassau County and northwest
Suffolk County. This storm here,
with all this frequent dangerous
cloud to ground lightning,
is capable of 60 mph wind gusts,
some small hail,
and this is all moving into
northern Nassau County and eventually
northwestern Suffolk County.
On top of that,
the downpours are so heavy that
this can cause some flash flooding
as this moves through as well.
So there's a flash flood warning
for the same areas until 730.
The actual storm will pass
by around 5 o'clock,
but then there could just be lingering
standing water to watch out for.
So if you're in these areas over
towards Oyster Bay, Huntington,
Bethpage, Dix Hills,
getting some moderate to torrential
downpours as well as the strong
gusty wind as this moves through
over the next half hour to 45
minutes or so from West to East.
This is the first warning so far
for Long Island this evening.
Might not be the last.
There's more active weather back
off to the West that we have to
pay close attention to,
but there is just so much lightning.
Even with this storm that you need to
stay indoors as this starts to move through,
so we'll keep an eye on that for you.
And there you can see the severe
thunderstorm warning the flood warning,
but also underneath that that tornado watch.
No tourney active tornado
warnings with this at the moment,
but a tornado watch for Nassau County.
That still goes until 9 o'clock
this evening as well as we go
throughout the evening.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms
can impact anywhere across Long Island.
Strongest likely in Nassau County
should weaken a little bit as
those move off towards the East,
but stay with us right here.
We'll have you updated with the storm
watch conditions all evening long.
