Welcome on in and we begin with a severe weather alert.
This is a live look in Flagstaff where we have been tracking
tornado warnings all morning long in portions of northern Arizona.
Now we're seeing a big cell starting to move close
to the Flagstaff area. Yeah, the National Weather Service
issued some warnings for portions of Coconino and Yavapai counties.
Crystal, we just got off the phone here with the chief
in the Parks Ponderosa Fire Department.
He said the storm moving towards Flagstaff three to five miles
or so and so they're expecting to see maybe some
activity there. Yeah this is another large thunderstorm
that is severe in nature meaning
it's damaging. Let's go right to the maps
and you can see that golden box is the severe
thunderstorm warning. We brought
this to you about what 15 minutes ago. It still is in effect for
another 15 minutes and it still has very heavy rain.
I'm going to pause the radar loop the next
time. There we go. The pinks that you see
are the heaviest areas of rain that are sitting directly
to the southwest of Flagstaff.
A lot of lightning with this as well as it is trekking farther to
the northeast. This thing is cooking as well.
It's moving very fast. So this is going to be
hitting and impacting especially the western half of Flagstaff
and then slamming into the San
Francisco peaks. As mentioned,
the severe thunderstorm warning is in place until 9 15
this morning. Take a look at this.
So this is the velocity product yet again. There is rotation in
this storm. Now the National Weather Service has
not issued a tornado warning at this point,
but there is at least a large area of some powerful winds
that are coming out of this storm.
So some damaging winds possible.
And finally, part of the concern of why they issued this warning
was large hail that is tracking right towards Flagstaff
and should likely be there.
I'd say fairly quickly.
In fact, let me put a little tracker on the latest on this hail line.
And you can see that, you know,
our tracker is not working right now for some reason.
Let me see if I can get it to work again.
I'm going to put a quick tracker on this and see what
the timing for Flagstaff would be.
There you go.
Flagstaff Ranch Golf Club area within the next 15 minutes or so, guys.
So we'll talk more about this storm.
And if there are new alerts, we'll come right back with them.
The storm, it has been impacting.
Of course, we saw it here in town, but this is up in Yavapai County.
This is pouring down northwest of Prescott,
about 13 miles from Chino Valley, and it's called the Las Vegas Ranch.
So Steve Pierce, one of our viewers, sending this video over,
and you can see they have been getting rain on and off,
lots and lots of thunder.
And that rain will continue for quite some time here.
So a big thank you to Steve Pierce for sharing the video.
was not just up north right here
in the valley we saw some thunderstorms as well and maybe you
got some hail yeah this was all happening last night
this is what it looked like in Mesa, take
a look and listen to that hail coming down yeah
you can really hear it hitting the roof there
the city getting pelted this is in Mesa again near Mesa Drive
and University, Linda Carrera
sending us this video
and you can just hear how long it was uh coming down over there we also
unfortunately seeing some damage in that area as well.
Daniel Miller has been surveying that for us
and she joins us live. We can hear those chainsaws
in the background. They are cleaning up.
Yeah, busy day here specifically in this apartment complex.
So this is right near University and
Gilbert right here in Mesa
and you can see crews are out here doing the best they can really to
clean up quite the mess.
You can see all of the damage left behind some massive trees in this
complex here, just completely knocked over branches,
just littering the roadway here.
Take a look at this awning right here.
You're seeing some of those branches fell on top of
here, crushing cars. You can see all of the broken windows,
the front end completely smashed in,
another window smashed in right here
because of all of those very heavy branches that have fallen
on top of these cars.
So this is pretty much what it looks like throughout
this entire neighborhood
hood here we even have a few of these massive branches landing
on top of roofs here uh some of
the the people living in this complex
were telling us they didn't want to go on camera but they were
just telling us it really was just quite
the mess out here very scary moments last night when the
storm rolled through they said it was loud
the apartment was shaking the windows were shaking so
very scary moments as well
so well there goes those chainsaws again very busy day guys uh here
Gilbert and University in Mesa.
They have a very busy day ahead of them here for cleanup.
We'll send it back to you. Wow. Look at that mess.
My goodness. And our hearts go out to those
people that had the trees fall on their vehicles.
Goodness gracious. Daniel, thank you.
