Ukraine’s armed forces have struck a Russian A-50 airborne surveillance aircraft and control aircraft was damaged in a recent strike, and attacked industrial and military facilities in Russian occupied territories. The aircraft was hit during a strike earlier in the week on an aircraft repair facility in Russia’s Novgorod region, Ukraine’s General Staff stated in a Telegram update released Friday. The plane was reportedly at the site for maintenance, possibly in preparation for upgrades. The statement also noted that Ukrainian strikes targeted the Alchevsk Metallurgical Plant in eastern Luhansk, a site believed to manufacture materials used in artillery munitions and armored steel for Russian forces. Additionally, Ukrainian units struck infrastructure at the Vostochnyi training range near Novopetrivka in the occupied southeastern Zaporizhzhia region. Officials said the full scale of the damage and any resulting Russian losses are still being assessed. Ukraine has intensified its campaign of strikes against Russian military and strategic infrastructure, targeting both occupied regions of Ukraine and locations deep inside Russian territory. According to Ukraine’s General Staff, these operations are aimed at weakening Russia’s operational capacity, disrupting supply chains, and reducing its ability to sustain frontline combat operations. Ukrainian authorities indicated that these strikes are part of broader efforts to disrupt Russian military support infrastructure. Earlier on Thursday, Ukrainian forces shut down a Russian Ka-52 Alligator attack helicopter with first-person-view drones near Pokrovsk city in eastern Donetsk region. The crew of a Russian Ka-52 helicopter managed to eject after their aircraft was struck. Meanwhile, the General Staff of Ukrainian armed forces reported on Monday that total combat losses among Russian troops from the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, to March 21, 2026, in the war against Ukraine amount to approximately 1,286,940 personnel, including 1,240 over the past 24 hours.
