Heavy snow ends, strong gusty winds make for low visibility

This is a 22 news storm team severe weather alert and time now is 1212. We do have that 20 storm team severe weather alert as we are seeing the snow and the wind continuing out there and we are still under that blizzard warning here in Hamden County. You can see visibility is down and of course the camera shaking around with that wind out there right now. Also Greenfield has been in and out of some heavier snow. You can see the roads are coated back in some snow there. So just heads up if you have to be out and about this afternoon. Um overall I would say crews have been doing a really good job keeping up with the roads. But of course there's plenty of slick spots. So give yourself extra time. Winter weather alerts are up for all the areas here in the orange. That is the blizzard warning. It does include Hamden County in central and eastern Hampshire County. Winter storm warnings are up for areas in the pink as you go to the interior up to the north and west. Neither less a major winter storm for everyone. Of course we're not on the you know the jackpot side of this when it comes to snowfall totals. But still the wind has been impressive and we are seeing some pretty impressive snowfall snow drifts out there from some of the viewers sending in some pictures. But in terms of visibility around a half mile or less. So that goes to tell you that the wind is definitely kicking the snow up. Got that wind sustained right out of the north here. Excuse me, 26 MPH. Springfield 24 MPH there in Westfield. Wind gusts have been over 40 MPH. In fact, we had a wind gust earlier in North Hampton, a 51 MPH. So that is going to cause those blizzard light conditions when the wind get when the snow gets picked up by the wind and creates low visibility temperatures up and down the valley, mostly in the twenties. For now, our address for the teens, though, if you head outside to start your cleanup on your driveway or sidewalk, it is gonna be cold, especially when that wind does pick up. So steady snow is ending. We'll see some periods of some snow showers through around three p.m. And then we'll dry things up. But stay windy as we go through tonight. Temperature right around 30 degrees. You can see here in the valley that very light kind of gray, bluish color, indicating that very light snow falling. But to the west of us, we got a heavier band of snow back in the Berkshires and to the east of us. You can see some of those darker blues through much of Worcester County. So that is indicating some of those heavier snow bands. But where the jackpot is definitely gonna be is right around Providence, down to the south shore of the Cape in the islands. Parts of southern, let's say, southeastern Massachusetts and also Providence are over 30 inches already. Someone out there is gonna get around or over three feet when all said and done, which is just amazing. In terms of the snowfall here, we're wrapping it up. We're gonna see the snow exit. We'll see everything try to dry up by three p.m. The clouds will even try to break apart as we go through this evening. But again, the wind is not gonna really go anywhere as we go through the rest of today and even into the evening. So even though it's gonna stop snowing, you're gonna have to be dealing with the wind continuing to pick up the snow and possibly putting it back on your driveway. So you might have to shovel a couple times over the coming hours. So here's a look at the winds over 40 MPH. Still by three p.m. We're still gusting around 40 MPH in Springfield, near 40 MPH in North Hampton, and that does stay breezy six p.m. Here. Still seeing wind gusts around 25 to 30 MPH, and that will continue as we go through this evening and even into tonight. So I do expect we'll hold on to that wind even heading into the day tomorrow. 28 to 32 out there today. The snow will be ending. It is gonna stay windy. So again, just use caution. If you're heading outdoors, it is gonna feel a lot colder than it actually is. Again, I would dress for the teens with the wind chill heading through tonight. We are gonna fall back into the teens with just the air temperature. Wind chill values will be near zero with the wind. It is gonna stay breezy for tonight in terms of the seven day forecast here as we take a look down the road. Tomorrow's quiet, breezy temperatures into the upper 20. So there's a chilly day. Well, this will be dry. There is a weak system coming in for Wednesday and Thursday could bring a little bit of a wintry mix, some rain and snow. Not looking like anything significant, but maybe in some spots, another minor accumulation can't be rolled out. Going down towards the end of the week, though, if you want some brighter and warmer weather, the weekend looks great right now. Saturday and Sunday, lots of sun and temperatures in the low to mid forties. So I do expect we'll finally maybe see some melting as we go towards the end of the week.
