This is 22 News at 4 p.m. Digital Edition.
Good afternoon, everyone, and welcome to 22 News at 4.
I'm Claire Overton.
We'll get to your top four at 4 in just a moment,
but first we always have a look at commuter traffic and weather.
Let's bring in 22 News Storm Team Meteorologist Brian Lapis.
Brian, it was a beautiful, warm day out there today.
Yeah, you know, not as much sunshine as we would have hoped for,
but we got into the 70s again today,
so that's at least two days in a row of 70-degree heat,
and we'll be back there tomorrow.
Chance for another one, too.
Yeah.
Kind of a November heat wave, I guess you could say.
Crazy.
Let's take a look at traffic,
and you can see here that we've got slow going.
End of 291, we're at merges with the pike.
Also a little bit of a slowdown.
We're at 291 merges with 91 south.
Otherwise, we're in good shape here.
I-91 and the mass pike.
Let's take a look at temperatures.
72 right now in Springfield and Westfield.
Mid to upper 60s, Greenfield and Orange, and 67 right now.
In Pittsfield, you can see this little wave of clouds.
It's moving across the valley,
but there is clearing not too far to the north and west
of Albany, New York.
So give this a few more hours and then we will start to clear out.
In fact, we're expecting a fairly bright day here tomorrow.
We'll track it with our 22 News Storm Team Skycast.
27-year-old Christopher Jimenez
was in court today after allegedly assaulting a police
officer at a construction site
in Springfield around 2.30 in the afternoon on Monday.
Jimenez approached a work site near
the intersection of Armory and Cleveland Street.
He allegedly punched an officer at the site,
causing him to fall over and hit his head on the pavement.
That officer sustained a serious but non-life-threatening head injury.
Another officer was also hurt in the struggle,
and a third was evaluated for possible injuries.
Jimenez faces multiple charges,
including assault and battery on a police officer.
This is a developing story,
and we'll provide more information when it is made available.
An investigation into an alleged hazing incident at Hoosick Valley
High School for their football team in Cheshire has been concluded.
Prosecutors found no evidence of criminal conduct
and no charges will be filed.
The investigation stemmed from an incident witnessed
by a coach back in September.
The football program was previously paused for nine days
while allegations were investigated.
The team returned to the field last month and at this time,
school officials said student safety remained their top priority
plans to rebuild a positive team culture.
Route 10 between East Hampton and North Hampton was closed last night
after what police are calling a serious crash.
It happened along the North Hampton-East Hampton city line
with Route 10 closed between Earl and O'Neill Streets.
Details on who was involved in the crash or if anyone was hurt
have not yet been released.
It's also unclear when or if the road has reopened.
We'll reach out to the Northampton
Police Department for more information.
New video has been released that shows the Massachusetts State
Police Air Wing helping firefighters battle that 250-acre wildfire
that spread from New York to Clarksville State Forest in Williamstown.
The fire began in Berlin, New York, near the Taconic Crest.
The fire was fully contained
by October 27th, though crews continued
to monitor and put out hotspots.
Officials say no homes or structures were impacted
and the smoke had minimal impact on nearby communities.
And now let's get another check at today's weather.
Brian, you're back with us. You said we had 70s yesterday,
70s today and possible for another 70s tomorrow.
Yeah, in fact, we could be a few degrees warmer than we
were today with highs in the mid 70s possibly here tomorrow.
That's crazy, but I see some green behind you, so we see possible rain?
We'll see. Probably not. You're right.
There are a couple of sprinkles here on radar,
but this is more than likely not making it to the ground.
So there's a little batch of clouds,
and maybe if you're on a mountaintop in the Berkshires
or western Hampden County,
you might see a sprinkle.
But otherwise, I expect that we will
be dry here for the rest of the afternoon.
There's actually some clearing that we're expecting to come in here
during the early evening hours.
This is 5 o'clock tonight.
A few clouds overhead and then watch as the sky clears out.
So we're going to call it scattered clouds here for tonight.
Evening temperatures will be in the 60s and 50s and overnight low
in the 40s early tomorrow morning. There's tomorrow morning.
Look at the sunshine. Bright day here tomorrow. 10 o'clock sun,
noontime sunshine and then sunshine right through the afternoon hours.
A little breeze out of the south tomorrow.
And a high temperature of 72 to 76.
We may run into some rain on Thursday, Claire.
We'll talk about that on 22 News at 5.
If you missed it, you have another chance to test
your luck with the Powerball tomorrow night.
The Powerball jackpot has grown to a whopping $835 million,
with a cash value of $357.9 million after nobody won
the prize last night.
That totaled $739.
Tomorrow's Powerball drawing will be the 35th since
the last jackpot was hit on August 12th.
We'll have the winning numbers on 22 News at 11.
And now for what we're working on for 22 News starting at 5.
It's midterm election day. We'll have a full breakdown
of each contested race and ballot question this evening.
Plus, we'll take a closer look at health care pricing law
that was established in 2021 and has yet to take effect. And finally,
a lawsuit filed by the Justice Department has been dismissed.
We'll have more information on that.
Traffic looks okay. There is that back up here at the end of 291.
It's a little slow for this time of day at I-91
and 291 moving into the southbound lanes of I-91. Otherwise,
I-91 north of Springfield looks good and the pike also looks fine.
Brighter day and warmer tomorrow. We'll show you on 22 News at 5.
