And from our team coverage,
we see voters across Massachusetts are heading
to the polls. They're deciding not only
the key races, but also the nine
statewide ballot questions.
22 News reporter Sarah Biennemay joins us live
in Longmeadow, where voters have
been showing up throughout the day. And
Sarah, still a steady line there behind you.
Clarence Siar, with the steady flow of voters here
at the Longmeadow Community House, an election worker
tells me they can't even get everyone into the building.
From the packed parking lot to long lines at certain precincts, the
election workers also tell me the voting booths have been busy all day.
Remember when I said by 1 this afternoon more than 1,800 votes had
been cast at this location?
Well, now it's been more than 3,100 votes since 5 o'clock.
Now, beyond the candidates, Massachusetts voters
are also deciding on nine ballot questions,
the most to appear on the state ballot since the process began in 1918.
The last time there were nine was back in 1994.
Here's a breakdown of the rest of the ballot questions.
Question seven would allow single-family homes to be built
on lots as small as 5,000 square feet under certain conditions.
Question eight would ban retail sales of recreational marijuana.
While question nine asked voters whether to keep
or repeal the state's 2024 firearms law.
I spoke with a young man who was so eager to apply.
to approach us with the issues that matters to him the most.
For things like having additional buildings on your property,
that was another one that
got me out to vote today as well too,
but the main one is affordability in terms of
one other issue that got me out to vote
was the repeal of the marijuana law too.
He told me he's been waiting for this day for a while,
and the descriptions on the ballots is what he appreciates the most.
Now, that's all the ballot questions that I have for now.
You can catch a full recap on our website.
And remember, polls will remain open until 8 tonight.
Working for you, live in Longmeadow, Sarah Biennemay, 22 News.
