The daisy is a widespread and very popular flower here. According to online research, the daisy was said to be a symbol of innocence and purity in the 1800s. They were a popular floral decoration in bridal bouquets and were often used to express affection and appreciation. The German name derives via French marguerite from Ancient Greek μαργαρῖτης margarîtes for "pearl". The association with pearls in their name reinforced this meaning of purity and preciousness. These flowers were also associated with youth and freshness and often served as a sign of admiration for a young lady. In the floral language of the time, daisies were a delicate and beautiful symbol of virtue and grace.
They have been used in folklore as a kind of love oracle for an unknown length of time. You would pluck the petals off the flower one by one and say, "He loves me", then pluck another and say, "He loves me not", until all the petals were plucked. When you held the last one in your hand, that was the answer to the question of whether a certain young gentleman or young lady loved you or not.
Isn't it strange to want to know in such a destructive way (against this pretty flower) whether you are loved or not? Please write in the comments how you would like to know whether or not you are loved by a particular gentleman or lady.
The daisy were filmed by Simone Schlegel, the video was edited by Wenjing Ma.

Simone Schlegel
