Ancient chronicles mysteriously refer to the deep blue waters that are now called Lake Thun and Lake Brienz as Lake Wendel.

At the end of the last ice age, Lake Brienz and Lake Thun were still united into one called Lake Wendel.

It is said, the accumulation of debris from the Lütschine and Lombach rivers created the "Bödeli", roughly in the middle. The complete separation into two lakes, Lake Brienz and Lake Thun, is documented to have been completed around the year 1000, but it was probably complete earlier.

Today, the Bödeli "small ground" has become the ground for Interlaken. This video was taken on this accumulation of "ancient bedload" on the beach west of Interlaken by Simone Schlegel. The video was edited by Wenjing Ma.
