These pieces are Brahms's arrangements of well-known works for piano, intended as technical studies. While valuable as technical studies, their value as performance pieces was initially debated. Today they are rarely performed. 1. Arrangement of Chopin's Étude Op. 25, No. 2 with the right hand in double thirds and sixths. 2. An arrangement of the finale from Weber's first piano sonata, with the right and left hands reversed. 3.-4. This is the Presto from the Gm Sonata for solo violin by Bach, arranged in two different versions. 5. The longest of the set, the Chaconne from Bach's Dm Partita for solo violin, arranged for the left hand.
