Living in a Japanese Village (Karl and Tina)

Many people believe that the Japanese lifestyle is reflected in crowded and busy cities like Tokyo. That is modern life in big cities. How about Japanese life in villages? Watch the video and find out what makes the difference between a city and a beautiful village like Takitokoro.
Karl and Tina were living in Germany before Karl decided to relocate to Takitokoro for retirement. Tina, at first, was angry with Karl’s moving plan. But she was totally persuaded after her first trip to Takitokoro, which is 180 km north of Tokyo.
The village nestles in the hills with beautiful landscapes and is surrounded by nature’s abundance, like trees, gardens, rice fields, a rainbow of flower blossoms, birds, etc. The village's colorful traditional houses have inspired Karl as an architectural designer. His passion for restoring traditional Japanese-style houses has been realized.
Karl and Tina have been living in Takitokoro. for 25 years, and their strong impression of this village remains unchanged. Karl has restored his own home, followed by restoration of several abandoned houses and building of a new house. He breathes a new life into this once-declining village. Local residents respect and admire him for his contribution to the community.
More Japanese people acquire houses in Takitokoro, making the community bigger. A new generation of children was born in the village.
Takitokoro is not a heritage site. But it plays a role in conserving Japanese cultural features. Its nature, beauty, atmosphere, and residents are attributed to the peaceful life here.
