The Cowboys just got GOOD and BAD news...
Oct 21, 2026
The Dallas Cowboys just got some good and bad news from Brian
Schottenheimer ahead of a pivotal week number seven versus the Eagles
as we get some injury updates on some players coming back onto
the field and some injury updates on a couple players
that potentially could be off the field for the next coming weeks.
Welcome into Cowboys Digest, everybody. I'm Chase Andrews,
and I hope you're having a great day wherever you guys might be.
Lots of stuff to get into today. But before that, though,
I want to say a quick thank you for everybody who has subscribed
as we recently hit 20,000 subscribers on this channel.
Thank you to everybody who has watched, liked, subscribed,
commented, whatever it might be. I really appreciate it.
And let's get into this show and start with the report
from Brian Schottenheimer on the four injury updates that he gave us.
So that will kind of give us an insight
into what we can expect for this upcoming week
versus the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football.
And here's what he said.
Linebacker Dee Winters has an Achilles strain
and is unlikely to play Monday night.
And then wide receiver KaVontae Turpin seems
to also be unlikely to play Monday night.
And he also right now is week to week
is the designation after having a rib injury against the Packers.
They do, however, feel really good
that linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will be back Monday night.
And that cornerback, Kobe Durant, is trending toward playing as well.
So two guys stepping back onto the field
while two guys stepping off the field
kind of go throughout these injuries
and kind of look at them one by one.
It's unfortunate with Winters because he
was starting to play really well.
In fact, had a pretty good game against
the Packers until he was injured.
Had the pick that honestly could have been a pick six
if he didn't get slapped by the back of the hand.
And then, of course, KaVontae Turpin, really good return, man.
So want to see both these guys as quickly
as possible back into the lineup.
But as of right now, it probably looks like both
those guys will not see the field come
Monday night.
Now, week seven, though, starts Thursday
when the New England Patriots take on the Chicago
Bears on Kalshi.
You can trade right now, and I'm going to trade on the Patriots.
They dropped a lot as soon as Caleb Williams
was announced that he was going to be healthy,
but I'm still going to put the money on Drake Maye.
$80 trade will get me over $100 in profit.
$187.36 is the exact amount I'm getting back.
And on Kalshi, you're trading directly against
other users, not the house like an additional
sportsbook you're buying yes
or no contracts on the outcome of events across sports politics or
even the weather for example and you can trade
on this patriots game you can also trade on all of
the week seven games coming up
and if you do so make sure you use our code and if you're interested
in trying them out the link in the description
or the pink or the pinned comment you click on that
and then if you sign up with this code Digest NFL the users
who trade 25 are going to get an extra
55 immediately added into your account
so go check it out today again we appreciate Calshi
for sponsoring today's show
so the depth chart definitely is going to be a little bit of a
different look for this upcoming week specifically
on the defensive side of things i think more or
less we can look at the special teams alongside
it understand that we're going to have to be
you know without without KaVontae Turpin
so you're probably going to see Jonathan Mingo be that
return man i know it says Pickens
but mingo is probably going to end up being that guy as we saw
in the game versus the Green Bay Packers
and then we transition to the defense here where we can see
that without D. Winters you're going to have
to really rely on the return of of of really everybody
on the linebacker room but more
or less the big thing here coming in DeMarvion Overshown and Agent
Zero really kind of being a big piece of what we can expect D. Winters
though his impact will be
missed 35 tackles in six games
and like i said really started to look like he was kind of stepping
into his own most recently against the Green Bay Packers now
the good news is it's one for one as
you are getting DeMarvion Overshown back for D. Winters in some ways
But with Agent Zero, it's hard
because we haven't seen him play but a couple snaps this
season.
He got injured early on in that, or not early on,
but in the late part of that New York
Giants game and really haven't seen him since.
He seems like he just gets out there and gets injured.
So I hope that that's not the case
because you really kind of need him coming up here.
Now, again, you do have the Eagles
in this schedule on Monday Night Football without
Jalen Hurts.
Again, lots of stuff going on with that
and the Eagles should be ashamed of themselves
But then you've got the Cardinals and the Colts coming up
Those games should be winnable.
But after that, 49ers, Titans, Eagles, Seahawks, Rams, Jaguars, Giants,
you have a very tough finish to the season besides that Titans game.
So you'd love to have the right people out there.
And Overshown is going to be a big thing.
And the good thing is he's not the only guy
that's going to reinforce this defense
as Kobe Durant looks like he should be back as well, trending up.
And in fact, last week we had to elevate
Darion Kendrick and Wanya Thomas
to kind of help out in that secondary.
This time, though, you're going to be able to have a really good set.
I mean, for the first time in a bit,
you kind of feel like your safety room and your cornerback room
is in a good spot.
And you're in a spot where you can still compete in this NFC East.
You've got the Giants ahead of you by about a game and a half or so,
whatever you want to make of that with the tie.
But you are in a position where this division is up for grabs.
And funny enough, on most websites,
you can have the Dallas Cowboys being the winner of the division
because that's how bad it has gone.
then we'll see what happens in the defensive lineup
and defensive changes are going to be
a huge thing, Overshown obviously stepping
in will be a really good athletic linebacker
given the injury to D Winters looks like Barham's going
to remain at that starting position in the
middle linebacker spot rather than potentially
transitioning back to his you know college
position of edge rushers and then of course Durant gets
a lot of good options in a matchup wise and
you still have Donte Smith
and Dontavian Wicks I mean we can talk about who's that quarterback
all day of the week, but you still have some really,
really, really good players
in this room for the Philadelphia Eagles,
and that's going to be something
to fully watch for and kind of look over when you look at them.
One thing I also want to talk about
is Winters and Turpin and their injuries
and kind of what we look for in the injury
diagnosis of each of these guys.
Obviously for D, it's an Achilles strain
is what they are kind of calling it.
So x-rays on Kavante, Turpin, and Winters were all clean,
So it's more or less just strains throughout both of them.
Of course, the Kavante Turpin injury with the rib cartilage,
Dee Winters with the Achilles strain.
I think that both these guys will, I mean, Kavante for sure,
being he's dated week to week,
will probably be somebody who is not going to end up on IR.
But Dee Winters is somebody at this point you would have thought
that they would have put him on IR if it was a necessary thing.
And I think that that is going to be something they can avoid,
which is something that you really do like.
I mean, Dee has been really solid throughout the past couple of games.
And that middle linebacker position is just,
I never trust health there at all, really, anyways.
I mean, heck, the most people, the guys
who have been the most healthy in that middle linebacker slot
is Jay Sean Barham and Shamar James, which,
credit to them, they've been really, really solid.
But now you have to figure out how to replace the roles there as,
you know, kind of what the snaps is like.
Because if Overshown is back, that's great,
but is he going to be limited in his snaps?
Because then you're going to see a lot more of Shamar James once again.
Without kickoff and punt returning from KaVontae Turpin,
we're probably going to see Tyler Goodson,
which he didn't do a bad job like I'm not saying
that I'm like oh no you know good Tyler Goodson's
got to go out there but it's certainly something
that you have to be worrisome about you got
Goodson in the kickoff room and then of course have Jonathan Mingo
who had some good punt returns
in the game against the Packers
to be fair we'll see him returning punts again against the
Philadelphia Eagles but I think
of the two losses I'm definitely more concerned about Dee Winters
for one the severity of the injury that's the first thing two I think
also when you think about
this team in a lot of ways without
a middle linebacker slot with Dee Winters you're losing
out on that so it's it's hard when i want to like look at this video
or look at this team and and be
in a spot where we can be confident about the defense
but i can't because i have the coaching
staff and then on top of which i have to look
at these defensive players and the injuries that we
continuously have in that slot now one final thing i want
to point out is going to be if the defensive
returns of Overshown
and Durant are going to be enough to turn around this defense i think
ultimately there's a lot more problems than just adding
in what we've had in the mishaps from a
couple of different guys
but i do think missing out on D Winters you want to be able to replace
him you do with Demarvion Overshown
and Kamante Turpin again the hope is that maybe he could
play again week to week is not something
that's always gone for that but a lot of things are still
a problem and i think unfortunately not just
be crapping on our return of Demarvion Overshown but
But he has had problems with tackling and assignment discipline,
and that's something that must improve.
Coverage in third downs, that's not exactly something that, you know,
flipping a linebacker is going to switch.
The communication, obviously, has been such a huge thing
throughout this entirety of the early part of the season.
But let us know in the comments section, will the injuries,
will the injury returns save the defense?
Can they rebound here?
If you think they will, and you think they'll rebound, type Y for yes.
If you think no, coaching staff is an issue, then type in for no.
Or if you think both is an issue, then type B.
Let us know down in the comments section, guys.
We appreciate you watching, and we'll see you next time.
Peace out.
