With the Hurricanes win streak snapped in Calgary, the Canes now look
to another West Coast Canadian team and can they get back on track even
with four big producers out of the lineup for the time being.
The Hurricanes, well, they have a lot of work to do.
They have a lot to figure out
and Rod has a lot of mix matching to do tonight against Vancouver.

you to click that subscribe button, we're closing on a 2500
so let's get that going, speaking of
getting going, first look at where we stand
and where the Canucks stand going into tonight's game
in Vancouver, it's the Canes
and the Canucks, we're going to take a look at some of this
Carolina enters tonight at 7-2-1
while Vancouver is struggling at 2-7-1, oh look at that
this kind of flip-flop, uh, the Hurricanes
are coming off a loss to Calgary, but they still put
themselves in a very strong position early in the season
and tonight is an opportunity to get
everything right back on track despite all
these injuries that the Hurricanes are dealing with
this is a tough, this would kill most teams losing
four big monster players would kill most team
seasons, but we're the Carolina Hurricanes
and our pipeline into the Chicago Wolves and Greensboro
Gators is very strong, everything works together, everything
is looking good, Jarvis
still unavailable, he recovers
from shoulder surgery, Jordan Staal is dealing with a calf
injury Taylor Hall remains sidelined with an upper body injury
and now Mark Jankowski is also
out with a lower body injury four important forwards missing
from the lineup and of course
number 21 whose name I will not mention unless I have
to is listed as injury watch however we know
he's not injured he's just holding out
for more money elsewhere hopefully we can trade him soon
but this is where depth becomes super duper important
and as we know we are a we're a
franchise built on depth uh the projected forward combinations
for tonight uh first line we got
Svechnikov, Fishy, and Carrier no big changes there I want
to see uh that line establish the forecheck
immediately uh we know Carrier
and Svechnikov are monsters um always fast always getting back
so that should go well the second line now just like
in Calgary we're seeing Bradley Nadeau
love me some Bradley Nadeau news Logan Stankoven
and Jackson Blake I love this opportunity for
Nadeau I absolutely love this opportunity
for Nadeau he's a great young player he's been with
the Wolves since coming over from Maine getting drafted
by the Canes it's really gonna great
I love this idea for Nadeau with Stank
and Blake it's really gonna show where he can shine
with the Hurricanes he's getting a chance
to play again alongside two exciting young offensive
players our third line we see Nikolai Ehlers Jordan Martinuk at center
and Felix Ungersorum
and that's the combination i'm interested
in watching that's quite the shake-up um martin
uk very strong player we love jordo martinuk marty party uh sung
or storm getting a chance at
line three alongside my man Nikolai Ehlers
um definitely worth watching that one ehlers brings
speed and offensive creativity Martin Nook brings his experience
and work ethic and Ungar Storm
gets the opportunity to make
an impact along two major hurricane mainstays fourth line you got
Eric Robinson uh Yesperi Cook and the Emmy
which will make my daughter very happy and Nick Delorier
this is a group that needs to bring energy physicality
and responsible hockey if you want
to call Delorier responsibly responsible hockey he's more
the physicality um love watching him
play so that's our line four we got some
defensive pairings over here uh defense the
projective pairings are usually the same we'll stay
the same tonight Slavin and Chatfield Miller
with Walker and Ghost with Riley uh this gives
um these combinations give Carolina an opportunity
to keep the defense structured
and intact despite you know their injuries to the forwards our
defensive group always strong always tough i like Ghost
and and Riley together it's it's really
a nice combination so with many moving pieces uh Rod Brind'Amour
is going to have to keep adjusting
though we're going to see what we have
to do uh moving forward uh with these guys if we lose
tonight in Vancouver i'm going to say they're going
to push Jarvis through that's me um you
got it but you got to trust Rod we all
in Rod we trust right we all trust Rod Brind'Amour we all
know that Rod the bod is going to make the correct calls
um these are just projected combinations
uh whatever the final lines look like like hurricanes
are going to you know play their
system they're going to play hurricanes hockey 100 percent without
a doubt goaltending it seems
to be the question now it is at least in my head
then now we know hellebuck's still floating around
uh the goaltending situation
because i think this could be one of carolina's biggest advantages
based on the workload and recent performance um from what i've seen
and what i think Kochetkov is
going to get the start not fully confirmed uh he
was in the start increase um but he's certainly
making a case he's five and oh man he's five
and oh Kochetkov is five and oh he's posting a .912
save percentage with a 1.93 goals against average five wins zero losses
that's absolutely outstanding
and good for him uh here's the number i absolutely love according
to the hurricane digest franchise
leaderboard Kochetkov is just 29 saves away
from passing kevin weeks yes that kevin weeks for
fourth on carolina's all-time saves list that's
a pretty impressive milestone um to be approaching
especially this early in Kochetkov's career it
feels like we've had him forever and we really
haven't passing Kevin Weeks would be huge for Pyotr
and we all wish him well I really hope he
does it his workload is going
to increase he's averaging 22 saves per game over the last five
compared with 14.5 in the earlier comparison period
that tells me he's being asked to do more
and he is 100% responding but there is a challenge
the canes have to limit the quality of chances
it's giving up when you you know even
when your goaltender is playing well like Piotr is you don't
want to consistently rely on him to bail you out
Noah Fanten faced the bussy yeah he's 0 and 2
calgary was a spirited fight even
though it was calgary they came out to play but Kochetkov
uh Kochetkov is looking absolutely dynamic
if Kochetkov gets the nod tonight which i'm assuming
he will um we all want
to see another confident performance he's locked in he's looking great
you got to control the rebound stay composed
and give the canes a chance to win and i think
Brendan Moore can find ways to generate offense even
with new combinations even with the new
combinations coming in and what he has to work
with um especially with the speed and skill of
guys like Ahearn in the lineup you got a lot
to work with and you got a lot coming up from the
system again the wolves run like the canes it's going
to be a great thing to watch hopefully they
pull off the win tonight calgary was on fire
no all puns intended uh now this is where i think
the canes have a massive opportunity carolina's power play
is clicking at 25.6 percent the penalty
kill 91.4 percent
and vancouver's penalty kill is just
sitting at 58.1 percent and this is a
matchup Carolina absolutely needs to take advantage
of with four forwards injured special teams could
be the difference between a win
and a loss tonight in Vancouver I want to see Logan Stankoven
totally involved offensively put him
on both power play lines I don't really care what you do
he's one of the players Carolina needs to lean
on with so many regulars unavailable his speed
his creativity and his willingness to attack can make all
the difference especially against the
Vancouver team who's been struggling
however again there's another dude I want to talk about
who I'm really excited
and happy for Jesperi Kokkonen KK back in the lineup anchoring line
four I believe Kokkonen does deserve
his power play two pairing if Rod goes with that with
Staal and Jankowski unavailable this is exactly
the kind of situation where he needs to step forward
he can do it we know where he landed in the draft
with Montreal we know he didn't work out in
Montreal he was I mean locked into the Canes lineup
for a number of years since he came over
from Montreal they upgraded and he sat in the skybox
and this is really his chance to show
not only the Hurricanes
but other teams in the NHL if he really does want out what he can do
moving forward now one area where he needs
to improve is the face-off circle when you're being
asked to take on more responsibility at center especially
with a guy like Jordan Staal and Mark
Jankowski out winning the draws matter especially
in the defensive zone situations and late in close
games but i want to see carolina give him
the chance to grow in that responsibility so throw
him on both power plays as well i don't care
so here are my four keys to Hurricanes' victory the
storm is coming through Vancouver tonight number one establish
the forecheck early two take
advantage of Vancouver's struggling penalty kill
of Vancouver's struggling everything three get
offensive production out of not just Aho and Stankoven
but Kochetkov as well four limit high danger
chances against if the Canes do all four things i really like
its chances tonight i really do
one player i'm especially excited to watch
is my man i don't know if you can see that number 27
baby Nikolai Ehlers i'm a big Ehlers guy he
is just outstanding with the Hurricanes missing so
many forwards this is the opportunity for Ehlers
to really take the full driver's seat and a bigger
offensive role take the driver's seat he usually
drives even he Staal usually drives the line but
this is really his chance to step up
and step in his speed can create problems for Vancouver and
I'd love to see him help spark that third line
into action tonight's matchup Carolina 7-2-1
Vancouver's 2-7-1
and even with the injury situation I believe the Hurricanes are the
better team they have the structure they have
the coaching they have the special teams and the
goaltending can get the job done i'm gonna predict
a score all of you Caniacs out there who have been
watching me for almost a year now less than
a year now knows i don't like to make predictions but i'm
making a score prediction tonight hurricanes four
Canucks two, I think Carolina responds after the
Calgary loss, I think the storm is coming
into Vancouver looking for another streak to start
I think the power play gets an opportunity to make a difference
and I think at least one of
these young players steps up
and makes a huge statement tonight, I got money on Nadeau for me
tonight I'm watching Aho
and I'm watching the Oilers, Carolina needs its best player to lead
the way he has been, he was started hot, kind of cooled down a bit
but with Stahl out, with Jordo
out, Fishy needs to really light the way for the Hurricanes
and I want to see Logan Stankoven
Bradley Nadeau, Felix Ungerstorm
and KK take advantage of their opportunities tonight, Stank
always does a great job
with his opportunities, he's got young man Nadeau hanging out there
let's see what these guys can do together, I'm excited
for, I really want Ungerstorm to score a
goal because that's how good teams become great teams, we're already
a great team, we're a good
team without the four guys, really excited
for tonight, Caniacs, what's your prediction for tonight
drop your score in the comments, hit that like button, hit
that subscribe button, let's get that
going, um running a little long here
because I like to talk today, big game tonight in Vancouver
I'm really excited to see it, the Hurricanes
are flying in and they're going to um 4-2 win um if
anything else comes down I'll be the first to let you know until
then for Hurricanes Digest
I'm Jeff Testanero let's go Canes
