AI GeneratedThe Dallas Cowboys have revealed a surprising new depth chart ahead of their Week 6 matchup against the Green Bay Packers. The update highlights significant defensive shifts, most notably an increased role for rookie Malachi Lawrence, as the team struggles with pass-rush production and seeks to improve its standing in the NFC East.
This new update has Cowboys fans fired up as we have a shocking reveal
on a brand new roster change with depth chart updates and a lot
of new things coming on the defense against the Green Bay Packers.
Plus, Brian Schottenheimer
and company reveal a major role in coming for a huge rookie.
We talk about all of this here today on Cowboys Digest and break down
whether or not the hoopla over the new depth chart is warranted or not.
Welcome to Cowboys Digest, everybody. I'm Jay Sanderson.
I hope you're having a great day wherever you guys might be.
Lots of stuff to get into, but before that,

daily coverage of the Dallas Cowboys, and it's 100% free to do so.
We got a stream coming this Sunday, and I'm super excited about it.
Let's get into the news, though, and we start with this.
The Cowboys have revealed
a new surprising depth chart ahead of their game versus the
Packers, and it's kind of intriguing to see.
So let's pop up the screenshot of this depth chart
and take a look at some interesting
things.
The first thing is DeMarvion Overshawn is the starting linebacker.
Dee Winters is the starting linebacker over Jay Sean Barham.
Again, we don't know exactly how Overshawn
is going to be cleared to play this weekend,
but should he be cleared, he will be out there.
Porter obviously now added to this one.
Deron Bland, still a starting cornerback
on this roster with Caleb Downs, with Joey Porter.
I don't know how Kobe Durant is not the starter over that.
That's one thing to know.
But also something that is not really shown on here,
but is something that needs to be talked about is Malachi Lawrence
because he's still second string,
but it's expected for him to have a big role in this upcoming week
and in this upcoming day.
Now, we know the Cowboys are in a spot where we can look at,
you know, what we can see.
And I'm excited to kind of look at what Malachi Lawrence, especially,
you know, a rookie can do for this team in week number six.
Speaking of week number six,
I'm trading yes on Calshi for the Dallas Cowboys
to win this game on Sunday versus the Green Bay Packers.
An $80 trade will get you $160.81 back.
So, you're actually right at $80 on this trade on Calshi.
And on Calshi, you're trading directly
against other users, not the house.
Like an additional sports book, you're buying yes or no contracts
on the outcome of events across sports, politics, or even the weather.
You can also trade on freaking rain coming into Dallas this month.
If you are interested in trying out our presenting sponsor, Calshi, use
the link in the description or in the pinned comment of today's show.
And new users who sign up with this code, DigestNFL,
are going to get $55 when you trade your first $25.
So $55 added instantly to your account.
Make sure you go check it out and get this deal
because you can't find it anywhere else.
We appreciate Calshi for sponsoring today's video.
The Dallas Cowboys were much in need of some major changes.
So this depth chart being put out there
is definitely something that was warranted.
But at the same time, you're in a good position in the NFC East.
You're really only a game back of the New York Giants in some ways.
I know that it looks a little harder with the Ming-3 1-1,
and you would have hoped that it could be all a 3-2 record for them
and a 2-3 record for the Washington Commanders, but it is what it is.
You're about a game and a half in theory if you really want to go to it.
But now you have to go in here,
and you've got to face against a pretty decent Packers team.
They've looked pretty solid over the past couple of weeks.
I still believe they are not as good as what meets the eye.
there's going to be no Micah Parsons and it's a big time
because you have the Eagles right after
them on Monday night the next week now all
this to be said I want to bring up Malachi Lawrence
again because he is going to get a bigger opportunity
and more snaps coming for him as
Brian Schottenheimer and Christian Parker
have both agreed that we are going to see
more of him in these coming weeks
and coming days here's what Shotty said about him saying quote
he's played very well I think he's starting to show the flash
and the acceleration and the ability
to rush the passer that we knew we were getting
when we drafted him i think he had a very good
game against Tampa Bay
and you'll see him get more opportunities okay so more opportunities
in coming he has one sack and 12 tackles in this season
and he's continuing to get praise
across the board and i'm excited to kind
of see what we can get out of him i think that
it hasn't really been documented enough how good he has actually
been when he's you know given the
opportunity and so that's something
that he's finally going to get a full slate of snaps here
in week number six he had 27 against Tampa Bay
with his first career sack three pressures
and one pass defended
so I think that's a really really big thing and like I said
on the depth chart it's not something that is easily seen
but being in that secondary slot
it's kind of interesting that we see him
in that outside linebacker position on long side or
alongside Donovan Azuraku given what we've seen
in the effort from Rashawn Gary I wouldn't
You'd be shocked if, you know, we see Malachi and Donovan Azuraku,
you know, out there sometimes.
I think it's something that is very much a possibility
because, again, Rashawn's good,
but he's not going to put forth the effort
that you need to, you know, get the sacks.
Then what's the point of having him out there?
That's where we go to another report here
from Malachi Lawrence saying he's first in line to get more snaps.
I like what he said about it, too,
when he was asked about kind of, you know,
in line and how the first round pick was getting into a good spot.
Obviously, there's a bunch of personnel changes
this week for the Dallas Cowboys defense.
Here's what he had the quote on saying.
I think it's a sign that I've been developing pretty good.
Just growing every day, getting 1% better every day.
Even though it sounds cliche, it's been true.
I'm just taking advantage of my opportunities when they are giving.
And he's got an opportunity to do something
on the edge for the Dallas Cowboys.
Again, I know that Ezraku has played pretty solid this year.
Arguably been one of the better defensive players
on the Cowboys defense for Christian
Parker, but I still have yet to see Rashawn Gary
be the guy that we wanted to trade for the guy
that we expected when we traded for him
from the Green Bay Packers. So all that to be said,
this defensive line should be better.
And if it means Malachi Lawrence getting more outside
linebacker snaps, edge rushing snaps,
then you got to feel pretty confident that he can go out
there and perform to a pretty, pretty good level.
So again, time will tell in terms of what we can
see out of this but i i do think that in a lot
of ways this is a huge thing and i want to go to a
comment real quick just because i like putting
up some more comments in here but i'm going to
highlight this one from gerald stone saying is it me
or does it seem we bring in good players and
when they play for the cowboys their level
of play drops dramatically i'm not sure what the
problem is but appears to be the D-line
in addition looks like last year's D-line shredded cheese
each each week so i don't hold my breath that any
of these awesome players can come and excel
it rarely happens you got
a good point i mean Quinnen Williams, Kenny Clark, Rashawn Gary they're
all not playing to what we think they should be and uh you know
who knows now the veteran pass
rusher uh is something that is going to be intriguing
because Rashawn Gary for a long time
really never faced competition sometimes i mean you think about him
and you know Green Bay i guess
when you had uh the i guess last year he was there
with um with the rest of the edge rushers they had
on that side and you know now
this time he's got Azuraku alongside him he's got Malachi Lawrence
And so I think when you look at Micah Parsons and him last year
and the kind of output that they were able to do,
it's a little intriguing to see that.
But the pass rush is something you've got to fix, right?
It's very much a problem.
Five sacks in five games.
With the defensive line you have,
Obonia has been the best defensive lineman you have.
That's not what should happen.
Otito, Obonia should not be your best defensive lineman.
Yeah, obviously Lawrence has more chances.
I don't think the Packers' offensive line is all that.
This should be a game where you get to the quarterback,
where you force Jordan Love to go out there and be in a good spot.
And, you know, if not, maybe you're putting
in Von Miller more out there.
Maybe you see him get some opportunities in the outside linebacker spot.
I mean, he's ultimately like a coach, it seems like.
But there's got to be something to do here with the Cowboys
to fix what has been going on.
And again, Green Bay will be the option to test what we have.
And it's an urgent time.
I think we know that.
I think that Brian Schottenheimer knows it.
And it's going to be something that is a fluid thing.
But for the first time, it felt like this week
when Schottenheimer spoke to the media
and when Christian Parker spoke to the media,
it felt like their jobs were actually on the line.
It felt like they felt like this was a win-now type week.
And here's what Schottenheimer said about Parker
and kind of the accountability,
saying Christian Parker's our DC and everything,
all decisions will run through him.
We're supporting him. I support him. I believe strongly in the guy.
I do. I think the guy's an incredible football coach.
We have to coach better. We got to play better.
I think our players will be the first ones to say
that there's things that they need to do better.
There's things I need to do better.
And so no one is sitting here pointing the fingers at Christian Parker.
Maybe they're not pointing the fingers at Christian Parker,
but it's definitely not where I expected for the Cowboys to be.
If you'd have told me that the Giants
were leading the division at 3-1-1,
I would have told you you're insane.
The Cowboys are right there with them.
But instead, they're not.
They're not.
You flip the game versus the Tampa Bay Buccaneers,
you're in first place right now.
All you have to do, win one dang game.
And it's not like this season has been a whole problematic thing,
And yet you win one game, your first, in the NFC East.
And Jalen Hurts, you know, prayers to him.
Hope he feels better with his, you know, blood clots, it seems.
But he's not going to be out there for a while.
So now the Eagles are in a tough spot as well.
But you still have to go out there and win.
In terms of Christian Parker and the DC, moving up to the press box.
Nothing has been finalized yet, as we found out today from Nick Harris
and from Brian Schottenheimer specifically, kind of saying it.
But I think Parker should move.
I really do.
And here's a comment from Busch Garden fans,
a guy who's always on our stream, saying Cringe Parker,
he's moving to the booth finally, according to Mike Leslie.
Now it seems like it's not.
Now he seems like he's going to freaking coach
on the freaking sideline again.
So it's a frustrating thing.
I would wish they would just stick to something, and they don't.
But let me know what you think about
Malachi Lawrence in the comments section.
Do you think he should get more snaps?
A, give him major snaps.
Do you think you should increase it gradually,
or do you think you should keep the veteran rotation of Rashawn Gary,
Von Miller, Ezekiel, and then Lawrence gets like 25 snaps?
Let me know in the comments section of today's show.
We'll keep you updated with all we
know, and we appreciate you watching.
For now though, guys, peace out.
